  • Mid-course trajectory of the missiles equipped with seeker should be designed to detect target within FOV of seeker and to maximize the maneuverability at the point of transition to terminal guidance phase. Because the trajectory optimization problems are generally hard to obtain the analytic solutions due to its own nonlinearity with several constraints, the various numerical methods have been presented so far. In this paper, mid-course trajectory optimization problem for boost-glide missiles is calculated by using SOCP (Second-Order Cone Programming) which is one of convex optimization methods. At first, control variable augmentation scheme with a control constraint is suggested to reduce state variables of missile dynamics. And it is reformulated using a normalized time approach to cope with a free final time problem and boost time problem. Then, partial linearization and lossless convexification are used to convexify dynamic equation and control constraint, respectively. Finally, the results of the proposed method are compared with those of state-of-the-art nonlinear optimization method for verification.

  • In general, 3-dimensional point-mass equation has been widely used for the trajectory optimization of the fixed-wing aircraft and reentry vehicle. But it should be modified and represent target vehicle's own characteristics. For a lighter-than-air vehicle such as an airship, there exists different and peculiar flight characteristics compared with the aircraft. The first part of this paper is to derive the dynamic equation of motion for the mid-altitude unmanned airship and the second part is to obtain the optimal trajectories under the minimal time flight given constraints. The trajectory optimization problem is converted into the nonlinear programming problem using Sequential Quadratic Programming approach. Finally numerical solutions are presented in the last part of the paper.

  • We develop a new method of simultaneous optimization of trajectory and shape of redundant flexible manipulators for collision-free utilizing the B-spline function and a mathematical programming method We adopt an approximate flexible manipulator model which consists of rigid bar elements and spring elements. We use B-spline function for determining the approximate trajectory and the expressions of the outline of obstacles. The used total performance index consists of 2 performance indices. The first is the driving energy, and the second is the trajectory deviation which is caused by the approximate modeling for the flexible manipulator. We design optimal collision-free trajectory of flexible manipulators by searching optimum positions of the control points for B-spline approximation which minimize the performance index subject to constraint condition for collision-free. Some examinations through numerical examples show the effectiveness of the method

  • To implement Argentina tango dancer-like walking of the humanoid robot, a new trajectory generation scheme based on particle swarm optimization of the blending polynomial is presented. Firstly, the characteristics of Argentina tango walking are derived from observation of tango dance. Secondly, these are reflected in walking pose conditions and cost functions of particle swarm optimization to determine the coefficients of blending polynomial. For the stability of biped walking, zero moment point and reference trajectory of swing foot are also included in cost function. Thirdly, after tango walking cycle is divided into 3 stages with 2 postures, optimal trajectories of ankles, knees and hip of lower body, which include 6 sagittal and 4 coronal angles, are derived in consequence of optimization. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed scheme is validated by simulating biped walking of humanoid robot with derived trajectories under the 3D Simscape environment.

  • Robots are widely utilized in many fields, and various demands need customized robots. This study proposes an optimal design method based on swarm intelligence for selecting the kinematic parameter of a manipulator according to the task space trajectory desired by the user. The optimal design method is dealt with herein as an optimization problem. This study is based on swarm intelligence-based optimization algorithms (i.e., ant colony optimization (ACO) and particle swarm optimization algorithms) to determine the optimal kinematic parameters of the manipulator. The former is used to select the optimal kinematic parameter values, whereas the latter is utilized to solve the inverse kinematic problem when the ACO determines the parameter values. This study solves a design problem with the PUMA 560 when the desired task space trajectory is given and discusses its results in the simulation part to verify the performance of the proposed design.

  • In this paper, we have calculated a formular for sabot-trajectory of shipboard projectile including ship motion and generated trajectory-range function for analysing interference with structure of naval ship. We make formula to approximate the ship motion data of naval ship using optimization technique. Through this formula, we calculate the velocities and accelerations of sabot caused by ship motion(surge, sway, heave, roll, pitch, yaw) and then, we produce the formula about the trajectory of sabot including effects of ship motion in addition to previous study which had considered the effects of the pressure of flume, friction force, etc. To investigate interference with ship structures, we make the trajectory-range functions and then extract the nearest or farthest trajectory to ship structure. Through these data, we can conform whether the interference is happened or not.

  • Ascent trajectory optimization and explicit guidance problems for a satellite launch vehicle with yaw maneuver in a 3-dimension are considered. The trajectory optimization problem with boundary conditions is formulated as a nonlinear programming problem by parameterizing the inertial pitch and yaw attitude control variables, and is solved by using the SQP algorithm. The flight constraints such as gravity-turn and range safety conditions are imposed. An explicit inertial guidance algorithm in the exoatmospheric phase is also presented. The guidance algorithm provides steering command and time-to-go value directly using the current states of the vehicle and the desired orbit insertion conditions. The liquid propelled Delta 2910 launch vehicle is used as a numerical model.

  • In this paper, the design procedure of a guidance algorithm in the boosting phase of missiles with free-flight after thrust cut-off is introduced. The purpose of the guidance is to achieve a required velocity vector at the thrust cut-off. Trajectory optimizations for four cost functions are performed to investigate implementable trajectories in the pitch plane. It is observed from the optimization results that high angle of attack maneuver in the beginning of the flight are required to satisfy the constraints. The proposed guidance algorithm consists of the pitch program to produce open-loop pitch attitude command and the yaw attitude command generator to nullify the velocity to go. The pitch program utilizes the pitch attitude histories obtained from the trajectory optimization.

  • This paper proposes an optimization-based procedure to determine the parameters of the Apollo guidance law for Korean lunar lander mission. A lunar landing mission is formulated as a trajectory optimization problem to minimize the fuel consumption and the reference trajectory for the lander is obtained by solving the problem in the pre-flight phase. Some parameters of the Apollo guidance, which are coefficients of the polynomial used to define the guidance command, are selected based on the reference trajectory obtained in the pre-flight phase. A case study for the landing guidance of Korean lunar lander mission using the proposed procedure is conducted to demonstrate its effectiveness.
