  • An optimal interplanetary trajectory is presented for Human Outer Planet Exploration (HOPE) by using an advanced magnetoplasma spacecraft. A detailed optimization approach is formulated to utilize Variable Specific Impulse Magnetoplasma Rocket (VASIMR) engine with capabilities of variable specific impulse, variable engine efficiency, and engine on-off control. To design a round-trip trajectory for the mission, the characteristics of the spacecraft and its trajectories are analyzed. It is mainly illustrated that 30 MW powered spacecraft can make the mission possible in five-year round trip constraint around year 2045. The trajectories obtained in this study can be used for formulating an overall concept for the mission.

  • Design of a piezoelectric actuator for the ultrasonic motor must ensure that contact point has elliptic trajectory of movement. The new idea of an elliptic trajectory formation of the piezoelectric actuator is investigated in the paper. Shaking beam for the piezoelectric linear ultrasonic motor was introduced to realize this new idea. The principle is based on the excitation of longitudinal and flexural vibrations of the actuator by using two sources of longitudinal mechanical vibrations shifted by $\pi$/2. Mode-frequency and harmonic response analyses of the actuator based on FEM have been carried out. The moving trajectory of the contact point has been defined. Finally, The experimental research of shaking beam has been confirmed an opportunity of the elliptic trajectory reception with the help of one stable mode of the vibrations.

  • This paper deals with the flexible manipulator with rotational and translational degrees of freedom, which has an arm of time-varying length with the prismatic joint. The tracking control problem of the flexible manipulator is considered. First we design the controller of the 2-type robust servo system based on the finite horizon optimal control theory for the trajectory planned as a discontinuous velocity. Next, to reduce the tracking error, we use the method of the dynamic programming and of modifying the reference trajectory in time coordinate. The simulation results show that the dynamic modeling is adequate and that the asymptotic stabilization of the flexible manipulator is preserved in spite of nonlinear terms. The PTP control error has been reduced to zero completely, and the trajectory tracking errors are reduced sufficiently by the proposed control method.

  • Some methods have been presented to get optimal formation trajectories in the step of configuration or reconfiguration, which subject to constraints of collision avoidance and final configuration. In this study, a method for optimal formation trajectory-planning is introduced in view of fuel/time minimization using parameter optimization technique which has not been applied to optimal trajectory-planning for satellite formation flying. New constraints of nonlinear equality are derived for final configuration and constraints of nonlinear inequality are used for collision avoidance. The final configuration constraints are that three or more satellites should be placed in an equilateral polygon of the circular horizontal plane orbit. Several examples are given to get optimal trajectories based on the parameter optimization problem which subjects to constraints of collision avoidance and final configuration. They show that the introduced method for trajectory-planning is well suited to trajectory design problems of formation flying missions.

  • We develop a new method of simultaneous optimization of trajectory and shape of redundant flexible manipulators for collision-free utilizing the B-spline function and a mathematical programming method We adopt an approximate flexible manipulator model which consists of rigid bar elements and spring elements. We use B-spline function for determining the approximate trajectory and the expressions of the outline of obstacles. The used total performance index consists of 2 performance indices. The first is the driving energy, and the second is the trajectory deviation which is caused by the approximate modeling for the flexible manipulator. We design optimal collision-free trajectory of flexible manipulators by searching optimum positions of the control points for B-spline approximation which minimize the performance index subject to constraint condition for collision-free. Some examinations through numerical examples show the effectiveness of the method

  • Optimal Trajectory Correction Maneuver (TCM) design algorithm has been developed using the B-plane targeting method for future Korean Mars missions. For every-mission phase, trajectory informations can also be obtained using this developed algorithms which are essential to design optimal TCM strategy. The information were computed under minimum requiring perturbations to design Mars missions. Spacecraft can not be reached at designed aim point because of unexpected trajectory errors, caused by many perturbations and errors due to operating impulsive maneuvers during the cruising phase of missions. To maintain spacecraft's appropriate trajectory and deliver it to the designed aim point, B-plane targeting techniques are needed. A software NPSOL is used to solve this optimization problem, with the performance index of minimizing total amount of TCM's magnitude. And also executing time of maneuvers on be controlled for the user defined maneuver number $(1\~5)$ of TCMs. The constraints, the Mars arrival B-plane boundary conditions, are formulated for the problem. Results of this work show the ability to design and analyze overall Mars missions, from the Earth launch phase to Mars arrival phase including capture orbit status for future Korean Mars missions

  • The study of bipedal robot is towards similar shape and function with human. In this paper, we propose a human-like walking pattern compatible to the flexible foot with toe and heel structure. The new walking pattern for a bipedal robot consists of ZMP, center of mass (CoM), and ankle trajectory and is drawn by considering human kinesiology. First, the ZMP trajectory moves forward without stopping at a point even in the single support phase. The corresponding CoM trajectory to the ZMP one is derived by solving differential equations. As well, a CoM trajectory for the vertical axis is added by following the idea of human motion. The ankle trajectory closely mimics the rotational motion of human ankles during taking off and landing on the ground. The advantages of the proposed walking pattern are demonstrated by showing improved stability, decreased ankle torque, and the longer step length capability. Specifically, it is interesting to know that the vertical CoM motion is able to compensate for the initial transient response.

  • With the development of GPS and the popularity of mobile devices with positioning capability, collecting massive amounts of trajectory data is feasible and easy. The daily trajectories of moving objects convey a concise overview of their behaviors. Different social roles have different trajectory patterns. Therefore, we can identify users or groups based on similar trajectory patterns by mining implicit life patterns. However, most existing daily trajectories mining studies mainly focus on the spatial and temporal analysis of raw trajectory data but missing the essential semantic information or behaviors. In this paper, we propose a novel trajectory semantics calculation method to identify groups that have similar behaviors. In our model, we first propose a fast and efficient approach for stay regions extraction from daily trajectories, then generate semantic trajectories by enriching the stay regions with semantic labels. To measure the similarity between semantic trajectories, we design a semantic similarity measure model based on spatial and temporal similarity factor. Furthermore, a pruning strategy is proposed to lighten tedious calculations and comparisons. We have conducted extensive experiments on real trajectory dataset of Geolife project, and the experimental results show our proposed method is both effective and efficient.

  • The descent and ascent phases for a lunar lander are composed of several phases. Accordingly, the constraints and control values adequate for each phase are required in order to generate optimal lander's trajectory. The optimal trajectories for descent and ascent phases are generated by the cost function to minimize fuel consumption & attitude variation rates. In this paper, the optimal control problem to make trajectory uses Gauss pseudo-spectral method which is one of the direct approach method. This problem generates lander's reference trajectory, states and controls.

  • In this paper, the design result of the trajectory-based air traffic analysis software which is going to be used to assess air-traffic efficiency in case that some modification's made in dynamic airspace configuration, is described. The software has been developed to make statistical data about air-traffic in Incheon FIR based on the RPL, and to analyze the airway utilization and controller workload using the trajectory modeling data which are derived from the aircraft type, cruise speed, cruise altitude, and routes and fixes in the RPL. Since it batch-processes the long-term trajectory data with other inputs such as airspace, route information and so on, it has the advantage of quickly predicting the traffic variation when some change in airspace and route information is made.
