  • This paper is about control algorithms that bi-direction DC-DC Converter using Super Capacitor and regenerative power from DC feeding system in train. In order to take advantage of regenerative energy efficient, charge and discharge level value of energy storage system serve as an important factor. Respect to output fluctuations of the substation and catenary voltage changing, we offers Charge-Discharge Auto Level Tuning Algorithms to improve system following of Energy Storage System.

  • This paper deals with investigating some characteristics of the inverter-driven tractive induction motor according to the various rotor slot number. 2-D time-stepped finite element method considering the inverter voltage waveform is utilized for electromagnetic field analysis. As a result, harmonics spectra of torque and bar loss are compared in each case.

  • At the coupling area linking high speed line and conventional line, according to distance between trains due to speed limit of conventional line, the power load of substation supplying to this conventional line increase. At the coupling area between Kimcheon SS and Kyoungsan SS, train operation have problems caused by instantaneous voltage drop. So, this paper propose evaluation method of maximum load capacity at current normal feeding condition.

  • This paper presents a high performance low switching PWM technique for the propulsion system of railway such as subway and high speed train. In order to achieve the continuous voltage control to six-step and a low harmonics with low switching frequency under 500Hz, the synchronous PWM technique is combined with a space vector overmodulation and implemented by using DSP. Improved performance and a validation of proposed method are showed by the digital simulation and the experimental results using a 1.65MVA IGBT VVVF inverter and inertia load equivalent to 160 tons railway vehicles.

  • Catenary and Pantograph are a power supply devices for electric trains and shall be steadily contacted. Rail catenary must be installed precisely and managed for stable train operations. But external factors such as weathers, nature, etc., or aging affect catenary geometry. Changed catenary height causes high voltage spark or instant electric disconnection. Big spark and disconnection damage pantograph shoe and catenary coating and might interrupt rail operations. To prevent a big scale spark or electric disconnection catenary maintenance shall be required with catenary geometry measurement systems. In this paper, we describe the development of catenary height and stagger measurement system. The catenary height and stagger measurement system uses Acuity company's AR4000 Range Finder for distance measurement and AccuRange Line Scanner for degree measurement. This system reports suspicious overhead line sections with excessive height and stagger variance.

  • Light weight of vehicles by composite materials makes possible high speed, energy saving, and low repair cost. As Bimodal Tram and Tilting Train eXpress(TTX) use carbon composite material for their bodies, safety for passengers and electrical devices against unexpected failures has been issued more than ever. Lightning strike which generates high voltages and large currents is the worst case for the safety of passengers and devices. With this background, we experimentally investigated the insulation breakdown phenomena on carbon composite materials by the application of lightning surge voltage and current. From the experimental results, we could estimate whether the composite body is safe or not for the inside passengers and devices against lightning strikes.

  • A bimodal tram is being developed to combine the flexibility of a bus with the punctuality of a train. The propulsion system is a series hybrid type using a set of CNG engine generator and Li-polymer battery. This paper presents the experimental results of the series hybrid propulsion power unit using an active loader which can simulate powering and regenerative braking conditions of the propulsion equipments continuously. The power sharing scheme between PWM converter and a battery pack has been observed. The measurement results of DC link voltage and SOC(State Of Charge) of battery pack are presented.

  • For the research, we developed the hardware and software of the measurement system for on-line test and evaluation. The software controls the hardware of the measurement data and acts as a interface between users and the system hardware. In this paper, we studied performances of the auxiliary block for high-speed railway vehicle. In order to performance these works, the conversion system was developed. Using this system, we obtained the important results, such as voltage values for the battery charger and auxiliary block. Also, we diagnosed the faults and performed the evaluation for auxiliary block using the measurement system and data.

  • In this paper, neutral networks are used to build models of oxide film etched In CHF$_3$/CF$_4$ with a magnetically enhanced reactive ion etcher(MERIE). A statistical 2$\^$4-1/ experimental design plus one center point was used to characterize relationships between process factors and etch responses. The factors that were varied include radio frequence(rf) power, pressure, CHF$_3$ and CF$_4$ flow rates. Resultant 9 experiments were used to train neural networks and trained networks were subsequently tested on its appropriateness using additionally conducted 8 experiments. A total of 17 experiments were thus conducted for this modeling. The etch responses modeled are dc bias voltage, etch rate and etch uniformity A qualitative, good agreement was obtained between predicted and observed behaviors.

  • Since recent inverters are formed IGBT VVVF inverter its switching speed has been increased relative to the conventional inverters and the motor design based on the switching surge voltage at the inverter output is very important factor. Therefore, motor and inverter should be designed to have the optimal characteristics by considering the mutually limited conditions. On this research the design technology characteristics for inverter driving traction moor is compared to the products in Korea and the analysis is performed. Thus, it is intend to re-estimate the technology level and introduce the products by HHI, which is driving on Seoul subway line 6 since December, 2000.
