Traffic signal control is one of the most cost-effective means of improving urban mobility. With the recent progress of ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) and the installation of the real time traffic control systems, traffic signal control is conducted in online and real time. Normally, time-of-day (TOD) signal control is used with the system, but no definite methodology has yet been available for efficient TOD signal planing designing. Such method and process are in need to optimize the traffic signal timing plan. This paper proposes the optimization of TOD signal timings on arterials. The effects of the signal timings from the proposed method were assessed in the field. The proposed includes the methods determining the separation of the TOD break points and the TOD intervals. Those were tested on an arterial consisting of ten coordinated signalized intersections. It was found from the test results that the proposed TOD signal timing plans outperformed the previous signal timings.
Image-based traffic information collection systems have entered widespread adoption and use in many countries since these systems are not only capable of replacing existing loop-based detectors which have limitations in management and administration, but are also capable of providing and managing a wide variety of traffic related information. In addition, these systems are expanding rapidly in terms of purpose and scope of use. Currently, the utilization of image processing technology in the field of traffic accident management is limited to installing surveillance cameras on locations where traffic accidents are expected to occur and digitalizing of recorded data. Accurately recording the sequence of situations around a traffic accident in a signal intersection and then objectively and clearly analyzing how such accident occurred is more urgent and important than anything else in resolving a traffic accident. Therefore, in this research, we intend to present a technology capable of overcoming problems in which advanced existing technologies exhibited limitations in handling real-time due to large data capacity such as object separation of vehicles and tracking, which pose difficulties due to environmental diversities and changes at a signal intersection with complex traffic situations, as pointed out by many past researches while presenting and implementing an active and environmentally adaptive methodology capable of effectively reducing false detection situations which frequently occur even with the Gaussian complex model analytical method which has been considered the best among well-known environmental obstacle reduction methods. To prove that the technology developed by this research has performance advantage over existing automatic traffic accident recording systems, a test was performed by entering image data from an actually operating crossroad online in real-time. The test results were compared with the performance of other existing technologies.

Many organizations divide the network to manage the network in order to prevent the leakage of internal data between separate organizations / departments by sending and receiving unnecessary traffic. The most fundamental network separation method is based on physically separate equipment. However, there is a case where a network is divided and operated logically by utilizing a virtual LAN (VLAN) network access control function that can be constructed at a lower cost. In this study, we first examined the possibility of bypassing the logical network separation through VLAN ID scanning and double encapsulation VLAN hopping attack. Then, we showed and implemented a data leak scenario by utilizing the acquired VLAN ID. Furthermore, we proposed a simple and effective technique to detect and prevent the double encapsulation VLAN hopping attack, which is also implemented for validation. We hope that this study improves security of organizations that use the VLAN-based logical network separation by preventing internal data leakage or external cyber attack exploiting double encapsulation VLAN vulnerability.
Purpose: A reliable indicator of congested traffic speed is essential in providing the information of traffic flow states about motorway sections. The aim of this study is to propose an adaptive indicator of congested speed which is employed for deciding the traffic flow states for individual motorway sections using disaggregated section-based speed data. Method: Typically, the state of traffic flow is categorized into the three: uncongested, mixed, congested states. A method, presented in this study, was developed for identifying boundary speed values of road sections through categorizing the three traffic flow states with individual vehicular speed values. The boundary speed state of each road segment is determined using the speed distributions of mixed and congested traffic states. Result: Analysis results revealed that boundary speed values between mixed and congested states for road sections were similar to those of US and EU criteria (i.e., 48.28~66.0 kph). This indicates that boundary speed values could be different according to road sections. Conclusion: It is expected that the method and indicator, proposed in this study, could be efficaciously used for providing ad-hoc real-time traffic states and computing traffic congestion costs for motorway sections in the era of big data.
System Architecture Evolution (SAE) with Long Term Evolution (LTE) has been used as the key technology for the next generation mobile networks. To support mobility in the LTE/SAE-based mobile networks, the Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIP), in which the Mobile Access Gateway (MAG) of the PMIP is deployed at the Serving Gateway (S-GW) of LTE/SAE and the Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) of PMIP is employed at the PDN Gateway (P-GW) of LTE/SAE, is being considered. In the meantime, the Host Identity Protocol (HIP) and the Locator Identifier Separation Protocol (LISP) have recently been proposed with the identifier-locator separation principle, and they can be used for mobility management over the global-scale networks. In this paper, we discuss how to provide the inter-domain mobility management over PMIP-based LTE/SAE networks by investigating three possible scenarios: mobile IP with PMIP (denoted by MIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE), HIP with PMIP (denoted by HIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE), and LISP with PMIP (denoted by LISP-PMIP-LTE/SAE). For performance analysis of the candidate inter-domain mobility management schemes, we analyzed the traffic overhead at a central agent and the total transmission delay required for control and data packet delivery. From the numerical results, we can see that HIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE and LISP-PMIP-LTE/SAE are preferred to MIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE in terms of traffic overhead; whereas, LISP-PMIP-LTE/SAE is preferred to HIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE and MIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE in the viewpoint of total transmission delay.

Thisstudy presentsthe development of a fast-time airport surface simulator. The simulator usesthe output from a first-come first-served (FCFS) scheduler and has adopted one-dimensional dynamic model to simulate the movement of the aircraft on the surface. Higher collision risks situations in the airport surface traffic are analyzed to classify those situations into six cases. A conflict detection and resolution algorithm is implemented to maintain separation distance and to prevent deadlock. The simulator was tested with a scenario at the Incheon International Airport that contains 72 aircraft. Without the conflict detection and resolution, various conflict situations are identified. When the conflict detection and resolution algorithm is managing the traffic, it is confirmed that the conflicts are removed at the price of additional delays. In the conflict resolution algorithm, three prioritization strategies are implemented, and delayed aircraft count and average additional delays are compared. Prioritization based on remaining time or distance showed smaller total additional delay compared to choosing minimum delay priority for each situation.
Although marine structures are a risk factor interfering with the passage of ships, there are no obvious guidelines on the required safety distance between ships and marine structures under regulations and laws. In this study, the width of the shipping route width was set based on the AIS data to analyze the separation distance between marine structures and ships, and the ships were classified by the length of each ship. By analyzing the distribution at marine structures, this study confirmed that the ships' traffic volume was in the form of normal distribution. To statistically analyze the separation distance between the traffic distribution results and the normal distribution of ships in this study, the traffic pattern analysis around the marine structures was performed. As a result, the traffic pattern was different by length and the recommended safety distance for each length is presented accordingly. Referring to the IMO (International Maritime Organization) the standard turning circle and reference of safety separation distance between ships and offshore wind turbines of the CESMA (Confederation of European Shipmasters' Associations) and P IANC (World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructures), the analysis was conducted on ships that did not follow the set distance among the AIS data by setting the distance within the recommended ship safety distance to 5-7 overall length. As a result, the 5.5 length over all of the safety recommendations were selected as appropriate, and based on the above results, the two cases recommending ship safety distance were proposed.

In this paper, we proposed the mechanism for the buffer allocation and a cell scheduling method with logical separation a single buffer in the ATm switch, and analyzed the cell loss probability and the delay of each trafic (CBR/VBR/ABR) based on the weighted value and the dynamic cell service scheduling algorithm. The proposed switch buffering system classifies composite trafics incoming to the switch, according to the characteristic of traffic, then stores them in the logically separated buffers, and adopts the round-robin service with weighted value in order to transmit cells in buffers though one output port. We analyzed 4 cell service scheduling algorithms with dynamic round-robinfor each logically separated service line of a single buffer, in which buffers have the respective weighted values and 3 classes on mixed traffic which characteristized by traffic descriptor. In simulation, using SIMCRIPT II.5., we model the VBR and the ABR traffics as ON/OFF processes, and the CBR traffic as a Poisson processes. As the results of analysis according to the proposed buffer management mechanism and cell service algorithm, we have found that the required QoS of each VC can be quaranteed depends on a scale of weighted values allocated to buffers that changed the weighted values, and cell scheduling algorithm.
Rapid urbanization and population increasing are making a high-rise residential building and high-density residential area. According to spacial concentration of population is occurred road traffic noise problem. Now we are popularly using almost only noise barrier installation, but it makes many disfunctions such as poor landscape, low noise barrier performance and crimes. The purpose of this research is to figure out which is best method one the traffic noise management. Alternative are composed to building layout type ($30^{\circ},\;90^{\circ},\;180^{\circ}$), separation between road and residential building, noise barrier types(noise barrier only, noise barrier and forests and etc). The noise barrier are shown to reduce barrier and building layout angle $30^{\circ}$ position is the best comparing with horizontal and vertical layouts. The gab distance is decreased approximately noise level 5dB(A). We figured out there are noise important method except noise barrier wall and it was analyzed how much decreased. This can be very useful before making a road planning and residential building design.
Because of short length between interchanges, traffic congestion has been caused by a lot of short trip traffic in the urban section of interregional expressway. Also, in case of expressway with Bus Only Lane, bus causes dangerous situation by conflicting between vehicles and buses in order to access from Bus Only Lane to IC. Therefore, this study aims to propose Express Lane applied by Bus Only Lane as a new lane operation in order to efficiently operate and to analyze the effectiveness on constructing Express Lane to the Pangyo-Hannam section in Gyeongbu Expressway. The study analyzes effectiveness by scenario using the micro traffic simulation tool, VISSIM 5.4. For this, the indicators which evaluate construction effect of Express Lane, are used by average delay time, average speed and total travel time. The results of the study showed the best effectiveness when Express Lane installed one, and it represented an ideal traffic condition when long distance trip traffic of the whole traffic is 25% in the study section. Therefore, the construction of Express Lane using Bus Only Lane achieves positive effectiveness on safety and expense aspect as well as uncongested flow.
