  • It is necessary for the stabilized operation of the power system even if a severe condition in system operation takes place. There is the need to develop the intelligent Power grid Monitoring System. In this system, the PMU(Phasor Measurement Unit) measures the synchrophasor and transmits it to the PIDS(Power Infrastructure Defense System). The IEEE PC37.118 protocol defines the message format to implement the communication both the PMU and the PIDS. In this paper, We measure and analyze the network traffic from simulated the PMU to simulated the PIDS according to network routing. And, We present the finest network routing in developing the intelligent Power grid Monitoring System.

인터로킹 블록포장의 저속도로 적용성 평가 (Performance Evaluation of Interlocking Block Pavement for Low Speed Highway)

  • PURPOSES : This study aims to evaluate the performance of interlocking block pavement system for low speed highway. METHODS : Through on-site monitoring, environmental impact assessment of interlocking block pavement such as heat island reduction, traffic safety, noise pollution were evaluated as compared with asphalt pavement. Also the pavement condition and roughness were evaluated according to performance period. RESULTS : Surface temperature of interlocking block pavement was about 7 degree lower than asphalt pavement in midsummer. Compared to asphalt pavement, vehicle speed reduction effect of interlocking block pavement was about 2kph. For low speed driving, the noise pollution was measured at a similar level for both asphalt and interlocking block pavement. After 42month service period, the breakage of block was only 0.24% for the whole surveyed area. IRI of interlock block pavement was estimated within the range of 5~8m/km. CONCLUSIONS : Depending on the performance monitoring results such as heat island reduction, providing traffic safety and keeping a good pavement condition for a long service period, it assures that interlocking block pavement was applicable for low speed road.

Monitoring of bridge overlay using shrinkage-modified high performance concrete based on strain and moisture evolution

  • High performance concrete (HPC) has been extensively used in thin overlay for repair purpose due to its excellent strength and durability. This paper presents an experiment, where the sensor-instrumented HPC overlays have been followed by dynamic strain and moisture content monitoring for 1 year, under normal traffic. The vibrating wire and soil moisture sensors were embedded in overlay before construction. Four given HPC mixes (2 original mixes and their shrinkage-modified mixes) were used for overlays to contrast the strain and moisture results. A calibration method to accurately measure the moisture content for a given concrete mixture using soil moisture sensor was established. The monitoring results indicated that the modified mixes performed much better than the original mixes in shrinkage cracking control. Weather condition and concrete maturity at early age greatly affected the strain in concrete. The strain in HPC overlay was primarily in longitudinal direction, leading to transverse cracks. Additionally, the most moisture loss in concrete occurred at early age. Its rate was very dependent on weather. After one year, cracking survey was carried out by vision to verify the strain direction and no cracks observed in shrinkage modified mixes.

Long-term condition monitoring of cables for in-service cable-stayed bridges using matched vehicle-induced cable tension ratios

  • This article develops a long-term condition assessment method for stay cables in cable stayed bridges using the monitored cable tension forces under operational condition. Based on the concept of influence surface, the matched cable tension ratio of two cables located at the same side (either in the upstream side or downstream side) is theoretically proven to be related to the condition of stay cables and independent of the positions of vehicles on the bridge. A sensor grouping scheme is designed to ensure that reliable damage detection result can be obtained even when sensor fault occurs in the neighbor of the damaged cable. Cable forces measured from an in-service cable-stayed bridge in China are used to demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed method. Damage detection results show that the proposed approach is sensitive to the rupture of wire damage in a specific cable and is robust to environmental effects, measurement noise, sensor fault and different traffic patterns. Using the damage sensitive feature in the proposed approach, the metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall and F1 score, which are used to evaluate the performance of damage detection, are 97.97%, 95.08%, 100% and 97.48%, respectively. These results indicate that the proposed approach can reliably detect the damage in stay cables. In addition, the proposed approach is efficient and promising with applications to the field monitoring of cables in cable-stayed bridges.

고신뢰도 기능성 무선센서노드를 이용한 Ad-hoc기반의 ECG 모니터링 (ECG Monitoring using High-Reliability Functional Wireless Sensor Node based on Ad-hoc network)

  • 본 연구에서는 무선 센서네트워크 환경에서 요구하는 데이터 전달의 신뢰성 향상을 위해 기능성 노드를 제안한다. 생체신호 모니터링을 위해 기존의 지속적인 생체신호 전송시 발생하는 데이터 손실을 줄이기 위해 비정상적인 QRS-complex 검출이 가능한 센서노드를 이용하고, Ad-hoc 네트워크 환경에서 비정상적인 QRS-comoplex 발생시에만 데이터를 전송함으로써 무선 센서네트워크 내에 발생되는 데이터량을 줄일 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 Ad-hoc 환경에서의 기능성 노드를 사용함으로써 그 결과 의료 목적을 위한 무선 센서네트워크에서 전체 패킷발생을 줄여 센서노드의 전력소모를 크게 줄이고 시스템의 신뢰도를 크게 높이는 것으로 확인되었다.

Full-scale investigation of wind-induced vibrations of a mast-arm traffic signal structure

  • In previous model- and full-scale studies, high-amplitude vertical vibrations of mast-arm traffic signal structures have been shown to be due to vortex shedding, a phenomenon in which alternatingly shed, low-pressure vortices induce oscillating forces onto the mast-arm causing a cross-wind response. When the frequency of vortices being shed from the mast-arm corresponds to the natural frequency of the structure, a resonant condition is created causing long-lasting, high-amplitude vibrations which may lead to the fatigue failure of these structures. Turbulence in the approach flow is known to affect the cohesiveness of vortex shedding. Results from this full-scale investigation indicate that the surrounding terrain conditions, which affect the turbulence intensity of the wind, greatly influence the likelihood of occurrence of long-lasting, high-amplitude vibrations and also impact whether reduced service life due to fatigue is likely to be of concern.

IEEE 802.15.4 MAC-based Location-ID Exchange Protocol for Realizing Micro-Cell Connectionless Location- Awareness Services

  • We propose ID-exchange protocol for Connectionless Location-Awareness Service (CLAS) to locate mobile nodes in indoor sensor network. When adapting location-awareness service to sensor network, the target system must be designed in accordance with various metrics which reflect the system requirement. We especially consider sustainability of the existing service which has been provided for its original purpose, such as environmental monitoring. The detailed meaning of sustainability here is that, even if location-awareness service is newly added to the existing service, the system must be assured to retain a stable network condition, and to deal with newly caused traffic properly. The CLAS ID-exchange protocol is especially designed for fixture and mobile nodes communication to achieve these properties. The protocol operates on 802.15.4 MAC layer to make mobile node work independently of the procedure to build routing table of fixture node, so a stable routing condition can be achieved even if there are many mobile nodes. Moreover, the dedicated frequency channel is assigned only for this protocol, so that traffic caused by location-awareness service can be distributed to another channel. A real system adapting the protocol was implemented to monitor fire and authorities' positions. We verified the overhead and elapsed time for location-awareness. The result shows the proposed protocol has a high performance in detecting speed, traffic distribution, and stability of overall network.

실시간 미디어 전송의 종단간 성능 향상을 위한 혼성 모니터링 기법 (Hybrid Monitoring Scheme for End-to-End Performance Enhancement of Real-time Media Transport)

  • 네트워크 및 종단 노드의 시스템에 걸친 제한된 자원을 활용하여 실현되는 영상/음성 전달 서비스를 위한 멀티미디어 응용 프로그램의 품질을 보장하기 위해서는 지연, 지터, 손실과 같은 전송 상태와 CPU, 메모리의 사용량과 같은 시스템의 상태를 동시에 관찰하는 것이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 액세스그리드 (Access Grid) 경우와 같이 IP 멀티캐스트 상에 동작하는 RTP/RTCP에 기반한 실시간 미디어 응용 프로그램을 대상으로 동적/정적 모니터링 방식을 혼용하여 멀티캐스트 상태와 시스템 상태를 측정하는 혼성 모니터링 방식을 제안한다. 또한 종단간 전송 품질이 저하된 경우 제안한 모니터링 방식에서 측정된 결과를 비교/분석하여 품질 저하의 원인을 판단하고 원인에 적합한 대응방안을 연계하고i라 한다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 네트워크/시스템의 상태 변화에 적응적인 영상/음성 전송 서비스의 가능성을 타진하고 종단간 전송 품질 저하 방지를 위한 효과를 예상한다.

국지지역에서의 안전운전 지원을 위한 경보정보 설계 (Amber Information Design for Supporting Safe-Driving Under Local Road in Small-scale Area)

  • 이상기후는 도로교통 사고 위협요소로써 빈번하게 심각한 영향을 주고 있다. 특히, 도로교통에서 기상변화 또는 재해에 의한 영향은 장대교량, 터널, 사면 및 결빙 지역에서 영향이 크기 때문에 이들 지역에 대한 관심 있는 관리가 필요하며 발생할 수 있는 사고를 줄이기 위해서도 집중적인 도로 관리와 도로 기상 정보 제공 및 조기 경보, 도로 순찰, 교통통제와 같은 요소들이 필요하다. 도로의 눈과 결빙은 제설로 위험을 줄일 수는 있으나, 강풍은 피할 수 없는 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 도로 기상 정보와 기후, 재해 정보를 활용하여 국지 지역에서 안전운전을 위한 경보 정보를 설계를 하고자 한다. 극한 기상에 노출된 운전자를 위한 최상의 경보 정보 설계는 도로 상황 감시 개선, 도로 기상정보 감시, 정확한 사용자 정보전달들이 될 것이며, 또한 바람 및 재해 상황에 대한 통계, 표면 조건 통계, 차종 및 차종에 따른 바람에 의한 사고 통계와 조기 경보 정책과 교육들도 이를 위해서는 수반되어야 할 요소들이다.

고속도로 교통사고 예방을 위한 가변제한속도 적용방안 연구 (A Study on the Application of Variable Speed Limits(VSL) for Preventing Accidents on Freeways)

  • 효과적인 가변제한속도(Variable Speed Limit: VSL)는 교통사고를 예방하고 교통정체를 완화시키는데 기여하는 중요한 교통류 제어방안이다. 본 연구에서는 교통사고 예방을 목적으로 가변제한속도를 적용하는 방법론을 제시하였다. 가변제한속도를 적용하는 조건을 두 가지로 분류하였는데, 사고위험도 예측모형에 따른 제한속도 변화와 도로환경조건의 변화에 따른 제한속도 조정 방안을 제안하였다. 예측된 사고위험도에 따른 가변제한속도의 적용은 검지기에서 추출되는 교통량, 속도, 점유율자료와 교통사고자료로 이항로지스틱회귀분석 기법을 사용하여 구축된 사고위험도 예측모형을 사용하였다. 한편, 도로환경조건에 따른 가변제한속도 적용에서는 안개, 폭우, 폭설로 인한 시거제약 상황과 결빙, 비, 눈으로 인한 노면마찰력감소상황 시 최소정지거리 계산을 통해 각 상황에 적용되어야 하는 제한속도를 제시하였다. 이를 바탕으로 통합도로환경조건 모니터링 시스템 하에서 사고위험도와 도로환경조건을 관측하고 제한속도를 변화시키는 가변제한속도 시스템 알고리즘을 제시하였으며, 제안된 알고리즘의 현장 적용 시 고려되어야 할 기술적 이슈를 논의하였다.
