Study on the electrochemical treatment of dye wastewater (염색폐수의 전해처리 방법에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed to measure and evaluate the characteristics of removal efficiency and kinetics in the electrolytic decolorizing process of dye wastewater containing acid dye Red 114 by using Fe anode. The synthetic wastewater samples of 500, 1000, $2000mg/{\ell}$ concentration were tested and as an attempt to assess the feasibility of the present system for the industrial application, a sample of wastewater collected by J textile factory in Eujungbu city was also treated. It was found that the optimum conditions were pH 7, 8Volt and removal efficiency in synthetic wastewater containing $2000mg/{\ell}$ of dye and 0.2% of electrolyte (NaCl) was 99.68% after 20minutes of reaction time. In this condition, overall rate constant was $4.77{\times}10^{-5}mmol/cm^{3}hr$. The Decolorizing efficiency and COD removal efficiency of J textile factory wastewater were 99% and 86% respectively at pH 7, 8Volt for 40minutes of reaction time.

A Study on the Treatment of Organic Wastewater by Ozone Electrolysis (유기성 폐수의 오존전해처리에 관한 연구)

  • To treat certain wastewater that has alcohol and phenol, we performed the ozone electrolysis by using the titanium electrode. In this experiment, we examined decomposition voltage of organics, time for electrolysis, and removal efficiency of organics. In addition we compared the ozone oxidation electrolysis. The followings are results; 1. When it comes to the alcohol treatment in wastewater, ozone electrolysis showed higher removal efficiency than ozone oxidation or electrolysis. 2. After comparing the decomposition rate of methylalcohol, ethylalcohol, and prophylalcohol in ozone electrolysis, we knew the fact that increasing carbon number made the decomposition rate slow. 3. According to the treatment of alcohol by ozone electrolysis, decomposition voltage was 50V, time for electrolysis was three hours, and treatment acidity was neutral (pH 6.5 - 8.1). 4. Ozone electrolysis was effective to the phenol treatment. When we treated phenol by using ozone electrolysis for three hours, TOC treatment efficiency was 95%. However, ozone oxidation just showed 45% treatment efficiency.

  • High temperature Kermal diffusion from $POCl_3$ source usually used for conventional process through put of a cell manufacturing line and potentially reduce cell efficiency through bulk like time degradation. To fabricate high efficiency solar cells with minimal thermal processing, spin-on-doping(SOD) technique can be employed to emitter diffusion of a silicon solar cell. A technique is presented to emitter doping of a mono-crystalline solar cell using spin-on doping (SOD). Moreover it is shown that the sheet resistance variation with RTA temperature and time fer mono-crystalline and multi-crystalline silicon samples. This novel SOD technique was successfully used to produces 11.3% efficiency l04mm by 104mm size mono-crystalline silicon solar cells.

Biological Removal Characteristics by the Internal Recycle Rate in the Attached Growth Process (부착증식공정에서 내부 반송율 변화에 따른 생물학적 제거 특성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the contaminants removal efficiency and the optimal operating parameters by the internal recycle rate (IRR) in the combining A2/O process with fixed film. The average removal efficiency of BOD and COD was 92.5%~94.6%, 73.9%~87.0% in RUN 1 and 91.9%~94.7%, 77.7%~89.0% in RUN 2, respectively. Organic removal efficiency, at two different hydraulic retention time of 10 and 14hr, was similar. At 50% of the internal recycle rate, organic removal efficiency was somewhat higher than the other. Total nitrogen (T-N) and total phosphorus (T-P) were removed, highly, at 50% of internal recycle rate. It could be suggested by this study that the optimum internal recycle rate is 50% and hydraulic retention time is 14hr.

  • The numerical analyses of the complicated flows are widely attempted in these days. Because of the enormous demanding memory and calculation time, parallel processing is used for these problems. In order to obtain calculation efficiency, it is important to choose proper domain decomposition technique and numerical algorithm. In this research we enhanced the efficiency of the CFDS code developed by ADD, using parallel computation and newly developed numerical algorithms. For the huge amount of data transfer between blocks non-blocking method is used, and newly developed data transfer algorithm is used for non-aligned block interface. Recently developed RoeM scheme is adpoted as a spatial difference method, and AF-ADI and LU-SGS methods are used as a time integration method to enhance the convergence of the code. Analyses of the flows around the ONERA M6 wing and the high angle of attack missile configuration are performed to show the efficiency improvement.

  • A large-scale construction project relies much on the efficiency of construction equipment. Therefore, efficient and accurate measurement on the productivity of construction equipment is one of important task in the construction industry. Based on the motivation, this paper proposes a 11-axis composite sensor for an automatic measurement of construction equipment. A 11-axis composite sensor is composed of a gyroscope, geomagnetic and accelerometer sensor for the purpose of real-time motion captures of construction equipment. It is expected that the proposed system can save considerable time, effort and cost of measuring a efficiency of construction equipment.

  • The application of solar energy in residential building is general and natural in today. And application methods of solar thermal energy is divided in two kind of form, single evacuated tube and flat-plate form. Then in this study, the efficiency of single evacuated tube and flat-plate system is compared by total and effective area considering the time receiving the solar radiation between 24 hours and the specific time(10:00~15:00). As a result of the experiment, single evacuated tube and flat-plate collector's efficiency is varied by the quantity of solar radiation. And especially, the flat-plate system is more affected by outdoor temperature. Therefore the application of solar thermal system should be considered the solar radiation and outdoor temperature.

  • In this study, the theoretical investigation of the electrically heated catalyst(EHC) for vehicle application has been carried out using the thermal equivalence of EHC system and the data of vehicle tests to meet ultra low emission vehicle(ULEV) standard. To improve the efficiency of EHC system, it is necessary to understand relation between the power, the operating time and the conversion efficiency of EHC system. The relation was found with thermal equivalence of EHC system which considers the power supply to EHC, heat loss, chemical exothermic energy generated by oxidation reaction and net energy coming in via the exhaust gas. From this relation, the limits of needful power and operating time to meet the ULEV standard can be suggested, when the conversion efficiency of catalyst was known.

  • This paper describes the simulation study which estimates the container crane efficiency in container terminal. In most simulation studies, it is assumed that container cranes are available at any time. Though the failures of container cranes don't occur often, they are very serious problems on terminal efficiency. As usual, the failures of container crane cause arrived ships to delay the departure time. In this study, a queueing simulation model for container terminal, which focuses on the failures of container cranes, is designed. The simulation approach appears to be the most appropriate one because it allows to avoid the usual exponential assumption on interarrivals of ships and service times of container cranes. Using the developed model, we tested the efficiency of container cranes considering failures with a real system size and performed the simulation experiment on real container terminal to validate the developed simulation model. The results of simulation experiment were analyzed using output statistics, which include the waiting times of vessels and yard tractors, the utilization for container cranes, and the berth occupancy rates.

An Energy Saving Cooperative Communications Protocol without Reducing Spectral Efficiency for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

  • Spectral efficiency of current two-phase cooperative communications protocols is low since in the second time the relay forwards the same signal received from the source to the destination, the source keeps silent in this time. In this paper, we propose a novel cooperative communications protocol where the signal needed to transmit to the destination is sent in both phases, the source and the relay also transmit different signal to the destination thus no loss of spectral efficiency. This protocol performs signal selection based on log-likelihood ratio (LLR) at relay and maximum likelihood (ML) detection at destination. While existing protocols pay for a worse performance than direct transmission in the low SNR regime which is of special interest in ad hoc networks, ours is better over the whole range of SNR. In addition, the proposal takes advantages of bandwidth efficiency, long delay and interference among many terminals in ad hoc network. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol can significantly save total energy for wireless ad hoc networks.
