  • In this thesis, a video tracker with a TMS320C31 DSP is designed and implemented. It is intended to work with PC through PCI Bus and can be used in real-time applications. The DSP board is capable of grabbing image data from camera, and calculating the position of a target, and tracking its movement. The tracking situation can be displayed in a PC monitor and displacement of the movement is fed back to pan and tilt the camera. Experimental results show that the tracker implemented here works well in real applications.

  • This paper reports the development of a mobile robot for patrol using a single laser range finder. A Laser range finder is useful for outdoor environment regardless of illumination change or various weather conditions. In this paper we combined the motion control of the mobile robot and the algorithm for detecting the outdoor environment. For obstacle avoidance, we adopted the Vector Field Histogram algorithm. A laser range finder is mounted on the mobile robot and looking down the road with a small tilt angle. We propose an algorithm for detecting the surface of the road. The outdoor patrol robot platform is equipped with a DGPS system, a gyro-compass sensor, and a laser range finder. The proposed obstacle avoidance and road detection algorithms were experimentally tested in success.

  • Smart UAV, which adopting tiltrotor aircraft concept, requires long endurance and high speed capability simultaneously These two contradictable flight performances are hard to meet with single wing concept and inevitably require the operation of flap system which should reveal optimal performance for each flight mode. In order to design SUAV flaperon satisfying the performance requirement, various configurations are generated and their aerodynamic performances are analyzed using numerical flow computations around flaps. Considering aerodynamic performance and manufacturing simplicity, a final flap configuration is selected.

  • In this paper, a new coarse alignment algorithm is proposed for roughly determining the initial attitude of the vehicle. The algorithm, referred as two-step coarse alignment algorithm, computes roll and pitch angle of the vehicle using accelerometer outputs, and then determines yaw angle with gyro outputs. With the geometric relation between sensor outputs and attitude angles, the algorithm error is analytically derived and compared with the previous coarse alignment algorithm that computes a transformation matrix using accelerometer md gyro outputs simultaneously. The simulation is also performed by varying the sensor errors. The results show that the proposed two-step coarse alignment algorithm has better performance for east tilt angle.

  • Tilting trains are now an established feature of railway operations throughout the world. For intercity traffic, tilt provides operators with increasing speeds, and therefore enhanced competitiveness, on existing routes where insufficient traffic or a lack of funds precludes the construction of a dedicated new high-speed railway. Appling the tilting train, we can expect 30% of speed up on existing lines, but the stability of the electric current would be low because of tilting the train. Also, the spark between the catenary and pantagraph cause environmental problems such as noise, radio wave malfunction. Therefore, the tilting on pantagraph for the power suppling device is very essential for stable electric power supply.

  • The 40% scaled vehicle of Smart UAV has been developed for the investigation of basic flight characteristics and the verification of flight control algorithm. The similar gimbal hub and drive train with the full scale UAV were implemented and a forced air cooling reciprocating engine was installed. The various kind of tests were conducted for the major components of the vehicle. The important performance and mechanical endurance of the fabricated vehicle were identified by ground and hovering test.

The image gradient detect with Hough transform after edge detection image from the B/W images.   • Primary osteoarthritis of the ankle without history of trauma is rare. We are reporting the use of a low tibial osteotomy on 2 ankles in one patient. The osteotomy is designed to correct the varus tilt and anterior opening of the distal tibial joint surface where it has been shown by weight-bearing radiographs. Follow-up at 8 months the result showed to be excellent, by Takakura's scoring system. We experienced that slight overcorrection of deformity by low tibial osteotomy is effective in treating intermediate-stage primary osteoarthritis of the ankle.

  • Liking is a common activity in many of occupations and daily living, Lifting has been studied for many years. In this article, based on the existing literatures on lifting, mechanism of back support and proper posture during lifting are described. These mechanisms include the intra-abdominal pressure mechanism, the thoracolumbar fascia mechanism, and posterior ligamentous system. Proper posture for lifting are in the squat style, the lumbar spine is aligned in its normal lordosis and the pelvis is aligned in an anterior tilt. Keep the load close to the body and avoid twist white lifting.
