  • In this paper, nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide(rGO) is obtained by thermal annealing of nitrogen-containing compounds and graphene oxide (GO) manufactured by modified Hummers' method. We use melamine as a nitrogen-containing compound and treat GO thermally with melamine at over $800{\sim}1,000^{\circ}C$ and 1 ~ 3 hr under Ar atmosphere. The electrical conductivity of doped rGO is measured by 4-point probe method. As a result, nitrogen contents on rGO are found to be in the range of 2.5 to 12.5 at% depending on the doping conditions after thermal annealing. The main doping site on graphene oxide is changed from pyridinic-N and pyrrolinic N to the graphitic site as the heat treatment temperature increases. The electrical conductivity of doped rGO increases as the N doping content increases. As the thermal treatment time increases, the change of both total doping contents and doping sites is slight and the surface resistance is remarkably reduced, which is caused by healing effects of doped graphene oxide at high temperature.

  • KARI plans to launch Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) to the Moon by December 2020 for the first step of the Korea Lunar Exploration Project. This orbiter will be launched to obtain lunar exploration technologies and science data in advance before launching a main orbiter and a lunar probe. This paper describes the verification of thermal design for the orbiter. It is exposed to more extreme thermal environment than that of low Earth orbit satellite due to the heavy infrared emission of the Moon. Accordingly, a thermal design considering this environment is needed to maintain the temperature of payloads and components equipped in the orbiter within operating temperature range in all orbits. We performed the thermal analysis for Earth-Moon transfer orbit, lunar mission orbit and lunar eclipse required for thermal design verification of the lunar orbiter. As a result, this thermal design met the design requirements.

  • The heating produced by the absorption of radiofrequency (RF) has been considered a secondary undesirable effect during MRI procedures. In this work, we have measured the power absorbed by distilled water, glycerol and egg-albumin during NMR and non-NMR experiments. The samples are dielectric and examples of different biological materials. The samples were irradiated using the same RF pulse sequence, whilst the magnetic field strength was the variable to be changed in the experiments. The measurements show a smooth increase of the thermal power as the magnetic field grows due to the magnetoresistive effect in the copper antenna, a coil around the probe, which is directly heating the sample. However, in the cases when the magnetic field was the adequate for the NMR to take place, some anomalies in the expected thermal powers were observed: the thermal power was higher in the cases of water and glycerol, and lower in the case of albumin. An ANOVA test demonstrated that the observed differences between the measured power and the expected power are significant.

  • [ $SiO_{2}$ ] or SiON is usually deposited and annealed after formation of silicide in real transistor fabrication processes. Nickel silicide and nickel silicide with Co interlayer were annealed at 650$^{\circ}C$ for 30 min with silica top layer in this study to investigate its thermal stability. SEM, XPS, and FPP(four point probe) were employed for the investigation. Nickel silicide with Co interlayer showed improved thermal stability. Co interlayer seems to play a key role to the stability of nickel silicide.

  • The electrical and physical charateristics of aluminum oxide and Pt thin films on it, deposited by reactive sputtering and DC magnetron sputtering, respectively, were analysed with increasing annealing temperature(400~80$0^{\circ}C$) by four point probe, SEM and XRD. Under $600^{\circ}C$ of annealing temperature, aluminum oxide had the properties of improving Pt adhesion to SiO$_2$and insulation without chemical reaction to Pt thin films and the resistivity of Pt thin finns was improved. But these properties of aluminum oxide and Pt thin finns on it were degraded over $700^{\circ}C$ of annealing temperature because aluminum oxide was changed into metal aluminum and then reacted to Pt thin films deposited on it. The thermal characteristics of Pt micro heater were analysed with Pt-RTD integrated on the same substrate. In the analysis of properties of Pt micro heater. active area was smaller size, Pt micro heater had better thermal characteristics. Temperature of Pt micro heater fabricated on membrane was up to 34$0^{\circ}C$ with 1.2watts of the heating power due to reduction of the external thermal loss.

  • Thermal shock behavior of TiN-coated SUS 304 substrate was investigated using a laser ablation method. By short surface ablation with a pulse Nd-YAG laser, considerable surface crack and spalling were observed, whereas there were few oxidation phenomena, such as grain growth of TiN crystallites, nucleation and growth of $TiO_2$ crystallites, which were observed from the coatings quenched from $700^{\circ}C$ in a chamber. The oxygen concentration of the ablated coating surface with the pulse laser also had a lower value than that of the quenched coating surface by Auger electron spectroscopy and electron probe micro analysis. These results were attributed to the fact that the properties of the pulse laser method have a very short heating time and so the diffusion time for oxidation was insufficient. Consequently, it was verified that the laser thermal shock test provides a way to evaluate the influence of the thermal shock load reduced oxidation effect.

  • Estimating the thermal conductivity of clayey soils is important for enhancing the performance of geoengineering structures in cold regions and clay barriers for nuclear waste repositories, but specimen disturbance, saturation, and heat boundary conditions of the test apparatus hinder reliable measurements of the thermal conductivity of saturated clayey soils. This paper presents the results of an experimental study carried out using modified consolidation tests with the needle probe method to measure thermal conductivity. Experimental consolidation tests with saturated kaolinite were performed to investigate the effect of effective stress and dry density on thermal conductivity for saturated kaolinite. In addition, thermal conductivity of soil particles were thoroughly investigated and experimental results were used to evaluate the accuracy of the models to predict thermal conductivity.

  • Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is a powerful technique for non-destructive analysis that can be obtained in a wide range of environments. Recently, NIR measurements have been utilized as probe for quantitative analysis in agricultural, industrial, and medical sciences. In addition, it is also possible to make practical application on NIR for molecular structural analysis. In this work, Fourier transform near infrared (FT-NIR) measurements were carried out to utilize extensively in the relative amounts of different secondary structures were employed, such as Iysozyme, concanavalin A, silk fibroin and so on. Several broad NIR bands due to the protein absorption were observed between 4000 and $5000\;^{-1}$. In order to obtain more structural information from these featureless bands, second derivative and Fourier-self-deconvolution procedures were performed. Significant band separation was observed near the feature at $4610\;^{-1}$ ,. Particularly the peak intensity at $4525\;^{-1}$ shows a characteristic change with thermal denaturation of fibroin. The structural information can be also obtained by mid-IR and CD spectral. Correlation of NIR spectra with protein structure is discussed.

  • Invar is a compound metal of Fe-Ni system and contain 36% Ni. The most distinction characteristic of Invar is the coefficient of thermal expansion is 1.0 10$^{-6}$ /$^{\circ}C$. That is a tenth of general steel material. This low thermal expansion characteristic of Invar is applied to the missile, aircraft, monitor CRT and frontier display's shadow mask such as FED and OLED. The usage of the Invar shadow mask for display is increasing due to the requirement of larger size and flatness monitor. The Invar shadow mask is machined by two ways electro-forming and laser now. However the electro-forming takes a too long time and the laser machining is accompanied with Burr. In this study, PEMM(pulse electrochemical micro machining) is conducted to machine the micro hole to the Invar and 80${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ hole was machined.
