  • The objective of this study was to examine the effectiveness of newly developed program for the recovery and relapse prevention in patients with anxiety disorder. Twenty-four patients with anxiety disorder received Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) session weekly for a period of overall 8 weeks-program. Changes of depression, anxiety, negative and positive automatic thought were compared before and after the program. Depression and anxiety were improved significantly after the MBCT program(Z=-1.9, p=.06, Z=-2.9, p<.001). Conclusions: MBCT may be effective at reducing negative automatic thought and relieving anxiety and depressive symptoms in patients with anxiety disorder. However, large-sample, randomized controlled trials will be needed for generalization.

It consists of introducing program and self, understanding 5 mind desires, identifying obstacles of conversation, learning efficient communication skills, controling irrational expectation of others, recognizing mind gap, problems of choice and responsibility, nurturing mind, etc. The effectiveness of this program was verified through a model whose research variants were participation motivation, participation satisfaction, and mental health. Direct effects of participation motivation, participation satisfaction, and mental health were less satisfactory than indirect effects of the time when program satisfaction is a variant. It is concluded that mental health of participants is getting better when more satisfactory program should be provided, rather than motivation of simple participation.

  • Background: High string instrument (violin, viola) players are at high risk for developing musculoskeletal problems. In particular, a higher prevalence of shoulder problems has been reported. However, evidence of the effectiveness of therapeutic exercise for musicians with this condition is lacking until now. Objects: This case series study investigated the effect of a specific exercise program on shoulder pain, dysfunction, and posture of professional orchestral high string musicians. Methods: Five professional orchestral high string players with shoulder pain participated in this study. A six-week specific exercise program focus on scapular stability for shoulder pain consisted of scapular muscle exercise. Physical examinations for pain and dysfunction, posture were performed, were identified among all subjects before starting the exercise program. Results: The results revealed that shoulder pain decreased by 67.86% and the effect of pain on instrument play decreased by 63.33%. The shoulder pain and disability Index and the performing arts module-quick disability of the arm, shoulder and hand scale decreased by 71.72% and 51.61% respectively. The exercise program improved function and posture. Conclusion: A specific exercise program for high string players was effective in managing shoulder pain. This case series is intended to provide empirical data on the effectiveness of an exercise program aimed at assessing the effect of exercise on pain, dysfunction, and posture of professional orchestra musicians associated with specific instrument groups.

  • Background: This study was planned to assess and compare the effectiveness of cervical region stabilization exercise and strengthening exercise on pain and range of motion in patient with chronic neck pain. Methods: Fifty-one patient with chronic neck pain were randomly allocated into strengthening and stabilization exercise (SSE) group (n=27) and Strengthening exercise (SE) group (n=24). The program was carried for 12 sessions, 3 days/week in 4weeks. Pain intensity with visual analog scale (VAS), cervical range of motion, deep cervical flexor strengthening were evaluated before and after the intervention. Results: After the program, pain intensity decreased in group SE and SSE were found (p<.05). Range of motion and deep cervical muscle strength increased in group SE and SSE were found(p<.05). The intergroup comparison showed that significant difference in range of motion and deep cervical muscle strength (p<.05). Conclusions: The study suggest that both SSE program and SE program might be a useful treatment for patients with chronic neck pain. However SSE program might be superior in improving cervical range of motion and deep cervical flexor strength compare to SE program.

  • Velopharyngeal dysfunction in cleft palate patients following the primary palate repair may result in nasal air emission, hypernasality, articulation disorder and poor intelligibility of speech. Among conservative treatment methods, speech aid prosthesis combined with speech therapy is widely used method. However because of its long time of treatment more than a year and low predictability, some clinicians prefer a surgical intervention. Thus, the purpose of this report was to increase an attention on the effectiveness of speech aid prosthesis by introducing a case that was successfully treated. In this clinical report, speech bulb reduction program with intensive speech therapy was applied for a patient with velopharyngeal dysfunction and it was rapidly treated by 5months which was unusually short period for speech aid therapy. Furthermore, advantages of pre-operative speech aid therapy were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a Marriage Enrichment Program that can be applied to the actual lives of Korean families and couples, as well as adopted in family welfare programs. For this study, a quasi-experimental group design was employed and pre- and post- tests on Internal-External Control, Couple Communication, and Marital Satisfaction were conducted. Experimental participants consisted of six volunteer couples who responded to an advertisement by the Chonbuk Family Counseling Center printed in a daily newspaper. The experimental group received two hours of education on marital relationship enhancement every week for eight weeks. The control group received no such treatment. The effectiveness of the education was measured by Wilcox matched pair test, using a SAS program, as well as by the self-report of the participants. The results show that there was statistically significant improvement for the experimental group in all three areas of marriage-- internal control, couple communication, and marital satisfaction. In addition, the participants'evaluations were generally positive about the program. The participants reported that it was most helpful to learn through the educational program that individuals differ in basic needs and that they should not force personal beliefs on others. They also reported that their understanding of their spouse improved.

It was qualitatively explored perceived smoking consequences, cessation and relapse experience, specific harmonica help to overcome smoking urge, preference of harmonica toward cessation, and harmonica intervention planning to quit. Methods: The treatment program was conducted 30-minute, 6-session, and once a week basis. Qualitative data using Focus Group Interview were collected at the completion of the program with 6 participants, and analyzed by Krueger's systematic process. Results: Participants were smoking daily and consumed 3-10 cigarettes. They recognized undesirable smoking consequences in terms of cost, interpersonal relationship, and health that might lead to cessation attempts in the past. Participants who did not want to quit smoking at the program beginning changed their attitude to quit after exploring partial cessation efforts with the help of harmonica therapy. They believe harmonica's consistent help of quitting and leading to success. Conclusion: Adolescent attitudinal change toward smoking cessation has promising insight of motivation enhancement through harmonica therapy that was a major barrier to successful quit.
