  • In this paper, the existence and uniqueness for the global solution of neutral stochastic functional differential equation is investigated under the locally Lipschitz condition and the contractive condition. The implicit iterative methodology and the Lyapunov-Razumikhin theorem are used. The stability analysis for such equations is also applied. One numerical example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results obtained.

  • The resonant column testing is a laboratory testing method to determine the shear modulus and the material damping factor of soils. The method has been widely used for many applications and its importance has been increased. Since the establishment of the testing method in 1963, the low-technology electronic devices for testing and data acquisition have limited the measurement to the amplitude of the linear spectrum. The limitations of the testing method were also attributed to the assumption of the linear-elastic material in the theory of the resonant column testing and to the use of the wave equation for the dynamic response of the specimen. For the better theoretical formulation of the resonant column testing, this study derived the equation of motion and provided its solution. This study also proposed the improved data reduction and analysis method for the resonant column testing, based on the advanced data acquisition system and the proposed theoretical solution for the resonant column testing system. For the verification of the proposed data reduction and analysis method, the numerical simulation of the resonant column testing was performed by the finite element analysis. Also, a series of resonant column testing were peformed for Joomunjin sand, which verified the feasibility, of the proposed method and showed the limitations of the conventional data reduction and analysis method.

  • This paper proposes a theoretical solution of elastic critical buckling load of infinitely long pipelines with non-uniform thickness under external pressure. The non-uniform cross section of pipelines can be considered as corroded or stiffened pipelines so that this paper can be a fundamental research of pipelines that are essential technology for offshore industries. The theoretical solution of pipelines with non-uniform thickness is derived with an assumption that a cylindrical shell under external pressure can be considered as a simple ring. The eigenfunctions are derived to obtain the critical buckling load. The reduced thickness and the reduced range are considered as variables in parametric analysis. The finite element analysis is performed to verify the theoretical solutions and the results of the analytic method and the finite element method are in good agreement.

  • The group-theoretical approach analyzing the domain structure and the domain wall orientations of the ferroelastic crystal was introduced. These theoretical results were investigated by comparing them with the experimental results of several ferroelastic crystals, CsPbCl₃, Pb₃(PO₄)₂, and LiCsSO₄, which were grown by the Czochralski and solution methods, respectively. both results were agreed well and also consistent with those of previous works such s the strain method and the geometrical consideration. The group-theoretical approach showed that the ferroelastic domain walls must be the crystallographical prominent planes with fixed indices and classified by the symmetry elements characterizing the permissible domain walls. So the group-theoretical approach could be suggested as a new method for analyzing the structure of the ferroelastic domain and domain walls.

  • A theoretical exploration for determining the characteristic length of the cohesive zone for a double cantilever beam (DCB) specimen under mode I loading was conducted. Two traction-separation laws were studied: (i) a law with only a linear elastic stage from zero to full traction strength; and (ii) a bilinear traction law illustrating a progressive softening stage. Two analytical solutions were derived for the first law, which fit well into two existing solution groups. A transcendental equation was derived for the bilinear traction law, and a graphical method was presented to identify the resultant cohesive zone length. The study using the bilinear traction law enabled the theoretical investigation of the individual effects of cohesive law parameters (i.e., strength, stiffness, and fracture energy) on the cohesive zone length. Correlations between the theoretical and finite element (FE) results were assessed. Effects of traction law parameters on the cohesive zone length were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the aspects and the characteristics of conflict among people in agricultural villages shown in the course of conducting a rural community development project, and to suggest a theoretical basis for the solution of the conflict. various theories on rural community development projects and conflict, and relevant sociopsychological theories were perused to lay a theoretical foundation for the study, and 5 actual cases of conflicts in agricultural experience villages were analyzed in the light of the grounded theory which is one of suitable methods of qualitative research. And comparative and comprehensive analysis of conflicts of different farm villages was done. Based on the result of analysis of conflict among residents on agricultural experience village, this paper suggests some ways for solution of the conflict.

  • This paper primarily directed toward analyzing the frequency response in hydraulic pipe lines with a small diameter. The exact solution to the frequency response is obtained by using the complicated transfer function. The discrepancy with the exact and the approximate is small so the approximation solution is adopted to compare the experimental results with the theoretical analysis. In this experiment the input frequency was generated by the frequency generator with the ball valve and speed controller. In order to compare the theoretical were forms with the experimental ones the trace obtained from the oscilloscope is photographed, The diameter the length of lines and input pressure amplitude are varied to investigate their effects,. the experiment results show that th values of dimensionless parameter are very affected to the phase delay and guide response time in the design of pressure manifold to measure the pressure of hydraulic pipelines.

  • The scaling laws for vibration response of anti-symmetrically laminated plates are derived by applying the similitude transformation to the governing differential equations directly. With this approach, a closed-form solution of the governing equations is not required. This is a significant advantage over the method employed by other researchers where similitude transformation is applied to the closed-form solution. The scaling laws are tested by comparing the similitude fundamental frequencies to the theoretical fundamental frequencies determined from the available closed-form solutions. In case of complete similitude, similitude solutions from the scaling laws exactly agree with the theoretical solutions. Sometimes, it may not be feasible to select the model which obeys the similarity requirement completely, therefore partial similitude is theoretically investigated and approximate scaling laws are recommended. The distorted models in stacking sequences and laminated material properties demonstrate reasonable accuracy. On the contrary, a model with distortion in fiber angle is not recommended. The derived scaling laws are very useful to determine the vibration response of complex prototypes by performing the experiment on a model with required similarities.

  • When a membrane couples with compressive fluid, waves on the membrane follow a typical dispersion relations. One of characteristics of this relations is that evanscent waves occur below cutoff frequency. We have attempt to use this spatially decaying characteristics as a low frequency sound absorber. Theoretical development has required to solve membrane-fluid coupled linear differential. The solution has been successfully obtained by using eigenfunctions. To assure the obtained solution, experiment was also performed. The comparison was quite satisfactory. We conclude, based on these theoretical as well as experimental evidences, that it is very likely possible to use a membrane as a low frquency sound control element.

  • An theoretical analysis on the electro-osmotic flow in a 2-dimensional slit, that is induced by an external electric field acting on the electrical double layers near the slit wall, was performed. Especially, although there were many studies on the interacting electrical double layers, it was found in this study that they have several physical or mathematical fallacies. To resolve these, the general solution on the charge-regulating slit with the height as a parameter was obtained. The results of this work can provide the electrokinetic solution of nanoscale slit with the electrical double layer interaction as well as that of microscale slit without the interaction and can be used as the benchmark of a numerical analysis and the reference of electrokinetic flow path design.
