  • Purpose: The current challenges faced by nurses in providing high quality and evidence-based practice (EBP) supported care require profound changes in nursing education. To understand the changes needed to strengthen EBP education, the researchers examined EBP self-efficacy, course needs, barriers, and facilitators for academic faculty and clinical nurse preceptors to teach EBP in undergraduate nursing curricula. Methods: For this study, mixed-method approach was used with survey data collected from 73 academic faculty members from 54 universities. Further, 17 clinical nurse preceptors in three academic hospitals provided qualitative data for exploration of barriers and facilitators to teaching EBP. Data analysis used SPSS/WIN 21.0 and content analysis. Results: Quantitative data showed that although the overall level of self-efficacy among faculty was moderate, the implementation levels were relatively low. Most faculty members agreed with the need to integrate EBP courses into undergraduate nursing curricula. The qualitative data showed that the barriers to teaching EBP were lack of knowledge, skill, and initial investment for teaching EBP; hierarchical, rules-oriented nursing culture; potential learner overloads in processing EBP; limited research dissemination and application. Facilitators were identified as the importance of EBP to the profession of nursing; collaboration in schools and hospitals; and continuing education in teaching/utilizing EBP. Conclusion: The findings indicate that for successful integration of EBP ni nursing education there is a need for faculty training and integrated EBP courses.

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm how keeping a educational diary in which no feedback is given in the teaching practice in kindergartens affects a teacher efficacy and the educational belief of preschool teachers-to-be as well as the organizational health of kindergartens to practice according to the way teachers feel. With this aim, the study aimed at 34 seniors at the Department of Early Childhood Education in the four-year college in Chungnam. The study conducted this experiment using the nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design, and carried out a $x^2$ analysis and a t-test according to the data. Concerning the research results, first, keeping a educational diary of teaching practice affirmatively affected a teacher efficacy. Second, it did not significantly affect a teacher's educational belief. Third, it did not significantly affect the organizational health of the kindergarten to practice according to the ways teachers-to-be feel. This study is meaningful in that keeping a reflective journal in which feedback by a guidance teacher for practice becomes the basic proposition may be replaced with the keeping of a diary of practice at the level of practicality. This means that a teacher's sense of efficacy may improve simply by keeping a educational diary of teaching practice without feedback by a guidance teacher.

  • A Preliminary study for the evaluation of the Rehabilitation Nursing Program(RNP) implemented to the 25 stroke survivors at the Day Care Program Center of National Rehabilitation Hospital in Seoul was done at 1999. The purposes of this study was to assess the psychological effects as outcome-variables such as depression, powerlessness and self efficacy of the stroke survivors who were discharged from acute care hospitals. The Rehabilitation Nursing Program (RNP) integrated with the Day Care Program for rehabilitation was implemented and the psychological outcome variables were measured by 3 psychologic instruments of Zung Depression Scale, Millers's powerlessness and the Bandura's self efficacy scale. These instruments were translated into Korean and the contents validity and the reliability were tested. The subjects were 17 males and 8 females and 52% were aged over 51 years old and 24% were from 31 to 50 years old. Most of them (72%) had been educated more than high school level. The contents of RNP were 8 sessions composing of self-introduction, individualized assessment, health contract and feedback, management of depression, shaving experiences, effective communication, self efficacy teaching, health information, and daily care activities. This study found that the level of depression and the powerlessness were within average level and had not been changed the level of self efficacy after RNP were somewhat higher than before, but it was not changed significantly. According to the results, the psychological state of the subjects were not changed significantly. Only the level of self efficacy was a little improved after having the RNP. Based on theses results, the RNP should be focussed on the psychological nursing care and the psychological outcome variables were retested strictly with the enough sample size.
