The purpose of this study is to suggest the general education contents for undergraduate students at engineering related departments through need analysis in order to develop creative and integral talents. For this study, the need analysis was conducted by using focus group interviews, Borich's educational need equation and the Locus for Focus Model, and highly ranked priorities on both methods proposed as the highest priorities. As a result, 'drawing up a letter of self-introduction and a portfolio', 'understanding fields', 'understanding careers related to the major', 'presentation skills', 'knowledge for certificated exams', 'method to deduct creative ideas' were high on the list of top five priorities. The selected items by Locus for Focus Model show that undergraduate students at engineering related departments need general education contents associated with career development and communication by priority.
Most universities are attempting educational innovation through multidisciplinary approaches, such as interdisciplinary programs and convergent majors, to nurture convergent talents in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. The purpose of this study is to identify the priorities of the educational needs of students who complete the interdisciplinary program and to find its effective operation plan. For this purpose, research was conducted to search for the university-level support required to vitalize the interdisciplinary program by doing focus group interviews with students who have participated in the interdisciplinary program. And the final priority was derived by applying the t-test, Borich's need assessment model, and The Locus for Focus Model, using online research. As a result of the analysis, 'formation and operation of dedicated organizations' and 'dedicated classrooms and practice rooms' were deduced as factors to be considered as a top priority, 'curriculum specialization,' 'interdisciplinary program scholarship support,' 'interdisciplinary program promotion,' and 'assignment of dedicated teaching assistants' were derived as secondary consideration factors. Based on these research results, a plan of vitalizing the educational needs for the interdisciplinary program at university and its implications were suggested.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of current difference of education needs for instructional competency of lifelong education instructor and the level of importance of lifelong education for drawing priority. Through the literature review, this is divided the lifelong education instructor's competencies such as planning, implementation, management and support and analyzed the current level and importance with 35 items through t-test analysis. The priority for education needs is applied to Borich and the Locus for Focus model simultaneously. According to result for study, the largest item of competency for lifelong education instructor is verified with the current level and importance for building of social networking and managing competency. The top priority item of education needs for instructional competency of lifelong education instructor is located in the first quadrant of model and the Locus for Focus model, according to priority in needs for Borich and was showed in program competency. The second items in priority were derived by learning resources, information gathering, competency for focus development, equitable evaluation for student, competency for building team work. Therefore, these competencies are considered as factors for priority of lifelong instructor and will be developed in personal and organizational development.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyzing the relationship between perceived health status, health locus of control, self-esteem, self-efficacy and HPB in patients with multiple myeloma to identify factors influencing health promoting behavior (HPB). Methods: One hundred patients were recruited into the study. The data were collected by personal interviews using questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used with SPSS program to were analyze the data. Results: There were significant relationships between self-esteem (r=.787, p<.001), self-efficacy (r=.681, p<.001), internal health locus of control (r=.557, p<.001), powerful others health locus of control (r=.517, p<.001), chance health locus of control (r=-.251, p=.012), perceived health status (r=.532, p<.001) and HPB. Significant factors in explaining HPB were self-esteem, powerful others health locus of control, self-efficacy and perceived health status and together they accounted for 71% of variance. Conclusion: The study findings indicate that self-esteem, powerful others health locus of control, self-efficacy, and perceived health status were important factors in explaining HPB in patients with multiple myeloma. As self-esteem was an important variable in HPB, health promotion program designed for this population should focus on self-esteem and these other factors to enhance effective health promotion behavior.
As the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution enters, the importance of software safety is increasing, but related systematic educational curriculum and trained professional engineers are insufficient. The purpose of this research is to propose the high priority elements for the software safety education program through needs analysis. For this purpose, 74 candidate elements of software safety education program were derived through contents analysis of literature and nominal group technique (NGT) process with five software safety professionals from various industries in South Korea. Targeting potential education participants including industrial workers and students, an on-line survey was conducted to measure the current and required level of each element. Using descriptive statistics, t-test, Borich needs assessment and Locus for focus model, 16 high priority elements were derived for software safety education program. Based on the results, suggestions were made to develop a more effective education program for software safety education.
The purpose of this study are to provide the basic data materials and implementations for successful performance of electric-work field representatives of South Korean firms by identifying their roles and competency and examining their educational need. For this research purposes, three phased analysis was followed on: (1) the roles of electric-work field representatives, (2) competency of electric-work field representatives and (3) educational need for their competency. This research method was to conduct a focus group interview for 10 expert field representatives along with survey. The collected data materials were processed by MS Excel and SPSS 21.0 for statistical analysis including average, standard deviation and other basic statistics; the gap in awareness of field representatives; and need values. For the needs analysis, the difference between significance of field representatives' competency and current status was examined by t test. And the awareness gap between competency importance and current status was identified based on the Borich equation. The Locus for Focus model was employed herein to identify the kinds of competency with high importance and high inconsistency to prioritize. As a result, this research has found as follows: first, the roles of field representatives were found to be in 13 different kinds of roles. Second, electric-work field representatives were found to need to have 16 different skills. Third, regarding the 16 abilities, the gap between current status and significance was analyzed herein. The results showed statistically significant differences in all cases. The Borich needs analysis found the first required ability was communication ability followed by power of execution, conflict management ability, analytical thinking and time management ability. Also, the results of Locus for Focus model analysis displayed that the first quadrant(HH) included 7 highly-demanded abilities of communication ability, analytical thinking, decision making ability, specialty, time management ability, power of execution and drive for work implementation. The top-priority group was found to have 5 items of communication ability, analytical thinking, time management ability, power of execution and drive for work implementation which were commonly seen in the Locus for Focus model outcomes. Based on these findings, this research could identify the roles and competency of electric-work field representatives and provide the basic data materials applicable to future personal management of electricity companies including recruitment, division of work, job description, evaluation, etc. Also this research offered guidelines on demanded abilities in the field and where to place priority. The kinds of abilities with high educational demand as found in this research must be considered in designing educational programs for the competency building of field representatives. This research is expected to provide useful information in developing such educational programs for field representatives.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the educational needs of the industry for engineering education using the engineering competency scale. For needs assessment, t-test, Borich Needs Assessment and the Locus for Focus(LFF) were conducted using 400 employees' answers of industry. The results of this analysis are as follows. First, there was a significant difference between the level of importance and actual level. Second, all items were ranked using the Borich's needs assessment formula. Third, as a result of LFF model, 19 items were placed in the highest priority HH section. Fourth, 17 items with the highest priority in engineering education were selected. Finally, the highest educational needs were 6 items related with interpersonal skills, 2 items related with leadership, and 9 items related with professional attitude and ability. Based on the results of this paper, it is necessary to develop and operate an education program to reduce the gap between the industry requirement and the current level of engineering students.
The purpose of this study was to investigate educational needs for development of principals' strategic leadership. The researcher analyzed 128 responses from elementary and secondary school principals who participated in professional development programs in 2019. For data analyses, the researcher conducted t-test and Borich needs assessment and drew the Locus for Focus model. Results are as follows. First, all respondents and secondary school principals considered important competencies data collection and use for setting future directions, vision statement for educational community, preparation of essential values for educational activities in school, evaluation on school finance and utilization, effort for development of school system, and enhancement of positive communication climate. Second, elementary school principals regarded important competencies as vision statement for educational community, preparation of essential values for educational activities in school, analysis of school environment and use, evaluation on school finance and utilization, investigation of educational objectives and planning, effort for development of school system, and enhancement of positive communication climate.
The aim of this study analyzed the important level (IL) and understanding level (UL) including the Borich's need for students preparing of the national examination for radiological technologists at online open chatting room. A total of 254 survey were collected from a total of 1,016 students who used open chatting room from December 13 to December 16, 2022. A general characteristics were the age, gender, curriculum (3 or 4 years), grade and area. The IL, UL, learning satisfaction (LS), learning achievement (LA) and intention to continue using (ICU) were analyzed by using the 5 point Likert scale. There was no significant difference the LS, LA, and ICU according to general characteristics (p>0.05). There was a statistically significant difference a total of sixteen subjects based on the t-test results of the response values from the IL and UL (p<0.05). The total of ten subjects with the highest priority in the Locus for Focus models were the Ultrasonography, Human anatomy, Magnetic resonance imaging, Radiation therapy, Cardiovascular and intervention, Computed tomography, Human physiology, Radiographic imaging, Fluroscopic radiography, and Nuclear medicine) that the Borich's need was also the same as the top 10 ranked subjects. The LS (4.23±0.72), LA (4.18±0.73), and ICU (4.15±0.78) for open chatting room were high. This study identified the subjects most needed by college students by the Borich's need analysis. First, it is necessary to provide intensive education on subjects with high scores that are most needed by college students. Second, it is necessary to improve the teaching method for subjects with low need and low level of understanding.
The purpose of this study was to assess priority of educational needs for the development of curriculum based on key competencies of NCS for departments related to culinary arts in a 2-year college. In order to achieve this objective, the survey has been distributed to cooks working in hotel restaurants or restaurant companies by social network service and a total of 360 responses were analyzed excluding 18 responses. The collected surveys were analysed by using paired t-test, Borich's needs analysis and the locus for focus analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, the difference between the level of importance and present level about key competencies recognized by cooks working in restaurant company was statistically significant in 9 fields of key competencies excluding mathematical competence. The difference recognized by cooks working in hotel was statistically significant in all 10 fields of key competencies. Second, the results of Borich's needs assessment showed that the education needs of problem solving competence were the highest, followed by interpersonal, resource management, communication, information competence. Finally, considering both Borich's needs assessment and the locus for focus analysis, cooks working in hotel restaurants recognized that educational needs of communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, information competence were the top priority, and cooks working in restaurant companies recognized that educational needs of communication, interpersonal, skill, resource management competence were the top priority. Therefore, it is necessary to develop curriculum for culinary arts specialists based on key competence of top priority.
