  • It has been criticized that the Venice Charter of 1964 characterizes so much of Western value of architecture and its conservation, despite its significant contribution towards an international conservation approach. Since the 1970s some countries have drawn up their own conservation guidelines to supplement the limitations of the Venice Charter. When we review critically those documents, we find a change in the Western dogma of heritage. Although the Burra Charter of 1979(last version in 1999) and the China Principles of 2002 accept the general philosophy and concepts of the Venice Charter but make responses to special local needs. The Burra Charter has redressed a current Western bias which has permeated global conservation practices, responding to the Australian context. The China Principles also meet special national needs but in accordance with recent international practices. For this reason, the Burra Charter and the China Principles are regarded as well established in national conservation practices but also as representing each country's contribution to contemporary international conservation practices.

  • The roles-grafting research is an approach to educational studies intended to graft five roles of supervisors, graduate students, teachers, principals and administrators. The approach is divided into four chained and cyclical aspects: drafting research blueprint, revising research blueprint, executing research blueprint and assessing performances. The approach maintains five basic principles: principles of inheritance, innovation, practicality, scientific basis and grafting. It is a paradigm of innovative research that has been developed in China that is worth a thorough investigation and extensive analysis.

  • Through an empirical comparative analysis, we found that people in mainland China and Taiwan demonstrate strong similarities in their support for democracy, based on democratic suitability, efficiency, preference, and priority. There are also differences in beliefs about democratic values. Compared to people in mainland China, the Taiwanese have a deeper and more widely shared belief in the principles of participation and pluralism, while the differences between their beliefs in the principles of equality, freedom, and checks and balances are narrow. Furthermore, people in mainland China and Taiwan have a strong similarity in their understanding of democracy, that is, they all present a mixed democratic understanding based on substantive bias. Overall, although the differences between mainland China and Taiwan's democratic practices are reflected in the level of value identification from the perspective of democratic support and democratic understanding, the popular democratic political culture in mainland China and Taiwan still has a relatively broad consensus. Thus, the integration and development of cross-strait relations not only has an increasingly profound social and economic foundation but also considerable consensus and mass support on the political and cultural level.

  • This study compares and analyzes the legal systems of Korea, the European Union, China, and the United States based on the disclosure principles and processing policies for personal data processing and provides references for seeking improvements in our legal system. Furthermore, this research aims to suggest institutional implications to overcome data transfer limitations in the upcoming digital economy. Findings on a comparative analysis of the relevant legal systems for disclosing privacy policies in four countries showed that Korea's privacy policy is under the eight principles of privacy proposed by the OECD. However, there are limitations in the current situation where personal information is increasingly transferred overseas due to direct international trade e-commerce. On the other hand, the European Union enacted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in 2016 and emphasized the transfer of personal information under the Privacy Policy. China also showed differences in the inclusion of required items in its privacy policy based on its values and principles regarding transferring personal information and handling sensitive information. The U.S. CPRA amended §1798.135 of the CCPA to add a section on the processing of sensitive information, requiring companies to disclose how they limit the use of sensitive information and limit the use of such data, thereby strengthening the protection of data providers' rights to sensitive information. Thus, we should review our privacy policies to specify detailed standards for the privacy policy items required by data providers in the era of digital economy and digital commerce. In addition, privacy-related organizations and stakeholders should analyze the legal systems and items related to the principles of personal data disclosure and privacy policies in major countries so that personal data providers can be more conveniently and accurately informed about processing their personal information.

  • This study is on the organizational principles of Chinese traditional houses. It has been assumed that a common cultural background did influence dwelling construction in most areas of China, some specific concepts are used to build a connection between the culture and architecture. There are four aspects of cultural influence being explored: traditional concept of space by the philosophical influence, religious influence, the Feng Shut method, and traditional system of family organization. The influence of the Chinese culture on dwelling architecture is predominant. Housing types from different areas of China, despite their different physical appearance, have similar spatial concepts. This cultural influence was due to the historic development of the Chinese empire. The organizational principles of Chinese dwelling architecture determined by its own cultural background have five major invariable norms. They are as follows: 1. Internal and enclosed spatial organization. 2. Grouping of buildings around axes. 3. Spatial organization and extension by courtyard. 4. Spatial expansion by adding units. 5. Hierarchical organization of space.

  • The construction of rapid developing super high-rise buildings constantly faces great challenges and the innovation of construction equipment is a focus of these challenges. In this paper, three new inventions including the operation platform, tower crane and hoist are put forward around two of the most important issues of super high-rise building construction: vertical transportation and operation environment. Study background, composition of the equipment, working principles and key technologies are introduced in sequence. In the end, the paper summarizes the main problems in the further development of construction equipment.

  • Geometry is one of the important parts of Chinese school mathematics. There is a large difference in teaching and contents (standards, curriculum) between the US and China. Many mathematics educators in both countries are trying to reform the instruction of geometry and have made some progress. Close attention has been given to the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM 2000), in which we have found many good ideas. In this paper, we introduce new developments of school geometry in China and have made some comparisons between the US and China. The new technology is becoming popular step by step in Chinese high schools. We believe we should learn from each other and exchange the ideas. In doing this mathematics teaching will be improved.
