  • The most research on facility layout problems ignored the actual shapes of activity spaces and the aisles between activities. In many cases, the research also ignored the actual shape of building where the activities are to be arranged. In this paper, We present a block based layout technique that applies a genetic algorithm to search for a very good facility layout with horizontal aisles. From the extensive experiments for two different cases with respect to the shape of activity space, it was found that the proposed method generated better layouts than the ones obtained by applying Tam's algorithm in all test problems. The proposed algorithm showed about 10% improvement of performance on the average. We determined the best combination of the reproduction rule and the genetic operators with their probabilities for each test problem through the experiment.

  • The pond sludge from golf course which is a place of business waste that recycling is necessary. But, Most pond sludge was controlled by incineration and reclamation. Also, There are no research about pond sludge from waste point of view. The purpose of this study was focusing on recycling of pond sludge to make block of vegetation. In this study, in order to recycle the pond sludge with block of vegetation from mixed additive that analyzed characteristics of strength from compaction test and shear strength test.

  • CFD code that simulates stator-rotor interactions is developed applying parallel computing method. Modified Multi-Block Grid System which enhances perpendicularity in grid and is appropriate in parallel processing is introduced and Patched Algorithm is applied in sliding interface which is caused by movement of rotor. The experimental model in the turbo-machine is composed of 11 stators and 14 rotors. Analyses on two test cases which are one stator - one rotor model and three stators - four rotors model are performed. The results of the two cases have been compared with the experimental test data.

  • The construction of concrete slab track system is increased because the system has advantages which are maintenance free and so on, the other side, the system has weak points such as increase of the cost of the early stage construction and noise levels. Currently, concrete slab track systems has been designed for Gyungbu high speed line stage 2 and Honam high speed line. For those tracks, noise absorbing blocks are considered. Therefore, test methods and proper criteria for structural performance and reduction efficiency of noise absorbing blocks are required. The aim of this study is to provide provisons for installing acoustic-absorptive block on slab tracks.

  • The object of this study is to investigate material characteristics and flexural behavior of high strength concrete. Principal causes of variations of high compressive strength include the strength-producing capabilities of cement and silica hume. Compressive strength of 1200 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ is introduced for identifying the effect of the variation of the size of porocity and alternative method of measurement, Acoustic Emition method, is applied to examine the phenominon of concrete failure. The main test variables in the beam element are tensile steel ratios, presence of shear reinforcement, and change of steel shape. The estimation of stress block in the flexural test of this element tends to support the present theory and may suggest a desirable shape of the stress block.

  • In order to investigate the effect of the height of application point of lateral loads and reinforcing steel bars in walls and columns in improving the seismic behavior of confined concrete block masonry walls, an experimental research program is conducted. A total of four one-half scale specimens are tested under repeated lateral loads. Specimens are tested to failure with increasing maximum lateral drifts while a vertical axial load was applied and maintained constant. The constant vertical axial stresses applied are 0, 0.84 and 1.80MPa, while the amount of reinforcements in horizontal and vertical directions are $0\%,\;0.08\%\;and\;0.18\%$ respectively. Test results obtained for each specimen include cracking patterns, load-deflection data, and strains in reinforcement and walls in critical locations. Analysis of test data showed that above parameters generate a considerable effect on the seismic performance of confined concrete block masonry walls.

  • We consider a life testing experiment in which several two component shared parallel system are put on test, and the test is terminated at a pre-designed experiment. The bivariate data obtained from such a system level life testing can be classified into three cases: (1) the case of failed two components with known failure times, (2) the case of one censored component and the other failed component of which the failure time might be known or unknown, (3) the case of censored two components. In this paper, the maximum likelihood estimators of parameters for Block and Basu bivariate exponential model under above censoring scheme are obtained and the results of comparative studies are presented.

  • The objective of this investigation is to establish a simple yet effective block adjustment procedure for the orthorectification of multi-orbit satellite images. The major works of the proposed scheme are: (1) adjustment of satellite‘s orbit accurately, (2) calculation of the error vectors for each tie point using digital terrain model and ray tracing technique, (3) refining the orbit using the Least Squares Filtering technique and (4) generation of the orthophotos. In the process of least squares filtering, we use the residual vectors on ground control points and tie points to collocate the orbit. In orthorectification, we use the indirect method to generate the orthoimage. Test areas cover northern Taiwan. Test images are from SPOT 5 satellite. Experimental results indicate that proposed method improves the relative accuracy significantly.

  • Friction, wear and corrosion characteristics of various MoS$_2$ bonded film lubricants were investigated to apply them to automotive wheel joints. MoS$_2$ bonded film lubricants were formulated by combinations of several additives and binders, and they were coated onto the pre-treated surfaces of specimens. Friction and wear characteristics were evaluated with Falex pin & vee-block test and LFW-1 block-on-ring test. For the corrosion resistant characteristics of the films, salt solution spray corrosion tests were performed. Results showed that MoS$_2$ bonded films containing both inorganic and organic corrosion-resistant additives yielded a synergy effect on anti-corrosion resistance. Also, binders having the better water-proof and thermal stability showed the lower friction and higher corrosion resistance.

  • LED has received intensive research attention due to its long life, high efficacy, fast response and wide colour availability, and has secured extensive application areas. However, LED chips within the modules convert only fraction of electric energy into light, and majority of supplied energy needs to be dissipated as heat, which challenges in the performance and life of the LED modules. IEC 62717 specifies the performance requirements for LED modules together with the test methods and conditions. The present study examined the influence of different design parameters on performance temperature through series of experiments and numerical simulations. The economic means to change the module performance temperature during the measurement of mandatory markings were suggested based on predicted cooling performances.
