  • In this paper, we propose a novel method which can detect ordnance firing events in IR images. The proposed algorithm is comprised of effective target detection and robust clutter rejection methods based on the temporalspatial cooperative filter. And additional clutter reduction is performed based on the proposed two features, NTFF (Number of Temporal Filter Frames) and SNS(Size-Normalized Signal). Experimental results show the effectiveness and feasibilities of our proposed algorithm.

  • Most of the background subtraction algorithms show good performance in static scenes. In the case of dynamic scenes, they frequently cause false alarm to "temporal clutter", a repetitive motion within a certain area. In this paper, we propose a robust technique for the multiple interval pixel sampling (MIS) algorithm to handle highly dynamic scenes. An adaptive threshold scheme is used to suppress false alarms in low-confidence regions. We also utilize multiple background models in the foreground segmentation process to handle repetitive background movements. Experimental results revealed that our approach works well in handling various temporal clutters.

  • In this paper, a new realtime algorithm called the RTPBTD-HPDAF (Recursive Temporal Profile Base Target Detection with Highest Probability Data Association Filter) is presented for tracking fast moving small targets with IIR (Imaging Infrared) sensor systems. Spatial filter algorithms are mainly used for target in IIR sensor system detection and tracking however they often generate high density clutter due to various shapes of cloud. The TPBTD (Temporal Profile Base Target Detection) algorithm based on the analysis of temporal behavior of individual pixels is known to have good performance for detection and tracking of fast moving target with suppressing clutter. However it is not suitable to detect stationary and abruptly maneuvering targets. Moreover its computational load may not be negligible. The PTPBTD-HPDAF algorithm proposed in this paper for real-time target detection and tracking is shown to be computationally cheap while it has benefit of tracking targets with abrupt maneuvers. The performance of the proposed RTPBTD-HPDAF algorithm is tested and compared with the spatial filter with HPDAF algorithm for run-time and track initiation at real IIR video.

  • This paper presents the motion detection algorithm that can run robustly about recusive motion. The existing motion detection algorithm that uses difference image is robustly in some degree brightness or noise, but it frequently causes false alarms to temporal clutter, at the repetitive motion within a certain area. We developed a motion detection algorithm using mean absoulte error(MAE) which calculates the set of Moving regions and performs block matching. The experimental results revealed that our approach is superior to existing methodologies to handling various temporal clutter.

  • Radar rainfall estimates have been widely used in calculating rainfall amount approximately and predicting flood risks. The radar rainfall estimates have a number of error sources such as beam blockage and ground clutter hinder their applications to hydrological flood forecasting. Moreover, it has been reported in paper that those errors are inter-correlated spatially and temporally. Therefore, in the current study, we tested influence about spatio-temporal errors in radar rainfall estimates. Spatio-temporal errors were simulated through a stochastic simulation model, called Multivariate Autoregressive (MAR). For runoff simulation, the Nam River basin in South Korea was used with the distributed rainfall-runoff model, Vflo. The results indicated that spatio-temporal dependent errors caused much higher variations in peak discharge than spatial dependent errors. To further investigate the effect of the magnitude of time correlation among radar errors, different magnitudes of temporal correlations were employed during the rainfall-runoff simulation. The results indicated that strong correlation caused a higher variation in peak discharge. This concluded that the effects on reducing temporal and spatial correlation must be taken in addition to correcting the biases in radar rainfall estimates. • The problem addressed in this paper is the accurate tracting of a dynamic target using outputs from a forward - looking infrared(FLIR) sensor as measurements. The important variations are 1) the spread of the target intensity pattern in the FLIR image plane, 2) target motion characteristics, and 3) the rms value and both spartial and temporal correlation of the back - ground noise. Based on this insights. design modifications and on - line adaptation copabilities are incorporated to enable this type of filter track highly maneuverable targets such as air-to-air missiles, with spatially distributed and changing image intensity profiles, against, background clutter.

  • In this paper, a object detection and tracking algorithm is presented which exhibits robust properties for image sequences with complex background. The proposed algorithm is composed of three parts: moving object detection, object tracking, and motion analysis. The moving object detection algorithm is implemented using a temporal median background method which is suitable for real-time applications. In the motion analysis, we propose a new technique for removing a temporal clutter, such as a swaying plant or a light reflection of a background object. In addition, we design a multiple vehicle tracking system based on Kalman filtering. Computer simulation of the proposed scheme shows its robustness for MPEG-7 test image sequences.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust method which can detect and track a high-speed small approaching target in a cluttered environment for Korean Active Protection System. The proposed method uses a temporal and spatial filter, tracking filter to detect and track a single target in consecutive order. And it is comprised of a candidate target detection step, a prior target selection step and a target tracking. Field tests on real infrared image sequences show that the proposed method could stably track a high speed and small target in complex background and target occlusion.

  • This paper presents a three dimensional bilateral filter detecting target trajectory, extracting spatial target information using two dimensional bilateral filter and temporal target information using one dimensional bilateral filter. In order to discriminate edge pixel with flat background and target region spatially and temporally, spatial and temporal variance are used for an image and temporal profile. With this procedure, background and background profile are predicted without original target through two dimensional and one dimensional bilateral filter. Finally, using spatially predicted background and temporally predicted background profile, small target can be detected. For comparison of existing target detection methods and the proposed method, the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) is used in experimental results. Experimental results show that the proposed method has superior target detection rate and lower false alarm rate.

  • In this study, a methodology for the hourly prediction of rainfall surfaces was applied to the Pyungchang river basin at the upstream of South Han river with meteorological radar and ground rainfall data. The methods for the exclusion of abnormal echoes, and suppression of ground clutter, and the augmentation of attenuation effects associated with rainfall phenomena were reviewed, and the relationship between radar reflectivity (Z) and rainfall rate (R) was analyzed. The transformation of augmented radar reflectivities into the rdar rainfall surfaces was carried out, and afterward they were synthesized with the ground rainfall data generating the hourly rainfall surfaces. For the prediction of hourly rainfall surface, the moving factors of rainfall field estimated by the cross correlation coefficient method and the temporal variation of radar rainfall intensities were considered. The synthesized hourly rainfall surfaces were used to predict the hourly rainfall surfaces up to 3 hours in advance and subsequently the results were compared with the measured and the synthesized. It seems that the prediction method need to be verified with more data and be complemented further to consider the physical characteristics of rainfall field and the topography of the basin.
