  • In this paper research covers a study on the need for smart TV according to smart TV 'smart' of issues, consider the changing elements of paradigm, according to the evolution of TV, from the point of view of the user experience analyze the Applications of Smart TV UX. Through analysis of user behavior from the current viewpoint of the TV and Future TV, reflected in the design of Smart TV UX. Ultimately for efficiently operating the contents, screen proposed a prototype for personalized intelligent user based on UX design. Ultimately, to satisfy the playfulness for the course of using the TV as the primary goal and content through the TV content easily to the desired goal to be reached quickly and easily at the point of how to approach the user's destination, shorten the access path is proposed in this study.

Over-The-Top (OTT) Platforms' Strategies for Two-Sided Markets in Korea

  • The purpose of this paper is to present the Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms' strategies for two-sided markets. For this, we examine six strategic factors influencing OTT's success in Korea. The analysis reveals, among six OTTs, Netflix utilizes five strategic factors except the same-side network effects. OTTs from pay TV operators and channel providers tend to block the cross-side network effects on the opponent OTTs, because they think their giveaway to content providers is in vein, if the invested content by them would be consumed on opponent rival platforms. Interesting is that after experiencing a negative association between the market entry of Netflix and the subscription revenue growth rate of pay TV services, pay TV operators utilize the same-side network effects by offering hybrid services in partnership with global OTTs like Netflix, Disney+ which are considered as a complementary OTT. In conclusion, it is suggested to target a new connected TV based OTT service offering with collaboration with Korean TV device manufacturers for Korean OTTs' global strategy, because Netflix-like global market expansion is not easy for them to cover their content cost.

  • Social TV users and content are increasing day by day. The main purpose was to study the motivation for social television users, but I felt the need to analyze the potential psychological impact of users in various content. This study analyzed the impact on psychological well-being due to the interaction and viewing satisfaction by the object relations theory factors of social TV user in Korea. A survey was conducted on students of N university, ordinary university, and ordinary people who have experience using social TV to prove the observations or experiments of empirical facts in this study. Research result, First, Nonalienation have been have a positive effect on interaction and viewing satisfaction. Second, stable attachment have been have a positive effect on interaction. Third, social competence have been have a positive effect on interaction. Fourth, interaction have been have a positive effect on viewing satisfaction and psychological well-being. Fifth viewing satisfaction have been have a positive effect on Psychological well-being. Through this, This will contribute to the development of subdivided content and user-customized services for social television, and it is necessary to reconfigure and study various events that may occur between users in the future.

  • This study explores that how the logic of network power in the existing digital content distribution structure works against local media. The limitless citation of local media content, in particular, is becoming more common in order to profit from network traffic while not giving appropriate remuneration for local media content. This study tried to demonstrate how network media dominance alienates local media material by using YouTube network analysis of TV Maile Shinmun. According to the research result, it was found that major news media tends to take profits from the local media interview by not properly indicating the source video, or reporting the core content of the local media interview, making it unnecessary to look for the original video source. Despite the viewpoint that the digital environment presents opportunities for local media, the current network logic would not benefit local media, which calls for the need that the digital content distribution strategy of local media develops a new order such as NFT, one of blockchain-based monetary system.h the help of information technology.

  • This study aims to provide intellectual access to TV content using faceted classification. In order to describe the content of news and current affairs programs, a faceted approach was explored. Based on the Ranganathan's PMEST formula, the basic facets - 'who', 'what', 'how', 'where', 'when' - and their sub-facets were created, specifically for describing the news genre. Additionally, the formal structure and the contextual features of the news genre were mainly considered for creating sub-facets. These created facets were applied to a news genre program. The result shows that these suggested facets are useful for representing well the contextual components of the news genre. The application of faceted classification is expected to improve the identification of the specific TV content.

  • The complexity to search a specific content over TV platform is drastically increasing. Based on previous studies from computer data management system, we propose a new method that helps users to search and select content effectively. In general, contents over computers are represented by spatial metaphor, which replicates our physical environment and value systems about space. We suggest 3D lattice structure to construct information space for TV platform. Users can infer relevance between contents via special clue in information space, so as to select content more easily. Also, they can search contents through its temporal property that also represented in space. We make full use of our natural capability that can reduce additional overload to learning new interface. The results of this study can be significant and heuristic contributions, as they can be applied to diverse service areas utilizing video contents.

  • In the paper, we propose a TV-anytime codec that encodes and decodes TV-Anytime metadata according to the TV-Anytime specification so that the resulting binary TV-Anytime metadata can be transferred efficiently through the broadcasting network where the data bandwidth is restricted.. We describe the broadcasting environment that the TV-Anytime codec will be applied to, and the required functionalities of the software modules in detail. For the design of software modules, we show how to Implement the modules for metadata fragmentation. encoding, decoding, and the fragments management. The proposed TV-Anytime codec can be utilized as the core components to a personalized digital broadcasting system providing ECG(Electronic Content Guide) and segmentation information services according to TV-Anytime standard.

The Popularity of Picture Books with Television Tie-in Contents in the Public Library

  • This study analyzes circulation statistics of television tie-in picture books from the Wake County Public Library System in North Carolina to determine their popularity among patrons. Caldecott winning picture books were used as a point of comparison. This study also examined OPAC holdings from North Carolina public libraries to determine television tie-in picture book popularity among collection builders. The findings of the study show that television tie-in picture books are found to some degree in the vast majority of North Carolina public libraries, and are more popular than award winners in the Wake County system.

Traveling televisual texts: transnational adaptations of "Doctor Foster" into Korea's "The World of the Married" and the Philippines' "The Broken Marriage Vow"

  • Korean dramas, commonly referred to as Koreanovelas or K-Dramas in the Philippines, have significantly influenced and reshaped Philippine television culture since the early 2000s. Their impact persists in contemporary television programming, reflecting the transnational flow of media texts across borders. As media content transcends geographical boundaries, local media companies have adopted the practice of producing adaptations of foreign television series for their audiences. This paper examines the adaptation of the Koreanovela The World of the Married into the Philippine series The Broken Marriage Vow, both of which are adaptations derived from the British show Doctor Foster. Through this comparative analysis, I argue that the process of localizing these television shows to suit the preferences of the target audience serves as a tangible manifestation of transnational adaptation. Particularly in an era of globalization, where entertainment is still a thriving enterprise, thus traversing international borders, this phenomenon demonstrates the evolving nature of television content as it adapts and caters to diverse cultural contexts let alone a profitable means to generate an ailing entertainment industry, especially in the time of the pandemic.

Web TV in Network TV: Digitextuality and Hybridization of Media Labor in My Little Television

  • The emergence of the new audiences floating across multimedia platforms and engaging in TV production and distribution have forced producers and broadcasters to think of not only the fragmented distribution of their content but also the development of a new format beyond the frame of traditional TV production. A Korean entertainment TV show My Little Television combining the form of live webcasting and traditional TV show reflects such a trend. Because of the distinct format, My Little Television carries out a unique strategy in managing the two screens - Internet and TV. The dualistic production requires all players to understand not only online subculture and communication styles and methods, but also implicit and explicit rules of traditional TV production. Through text and visual image analysis on the show, this study discusses how MLT negotiates with the original Internet text, the producers' paratext, and the supertext of the national TV network in the context of the transitory screen culture.
