Tele-operation and remote monitoring techniques are essential and important technologies for performing the inspection and repair tasks effectively in nuclear power plants. This paper presents the application of a mobile robot for the remote monitoring and inspection of the Calandria faces, where human access is limited because of the high-level radioactive environments during full power operation. The mobile robot was designed with reconfigurable crawler type of wheels attached on the front and rear side in order to pass through the ditch. The extendable mast, mounted on the mobile robot, can be extended up to 8 m vertically. This robot was also equipped a visible CCD/thermal infrared inspection head module and a stereo camera module for the enhancement of visual inspection.
This paper presents a CAN-based control system, which supports tole-operations over the Internet. As a result, CAN-based control systems are opened up for remote control, monitoring and maintenance using WWW-technology. Most of the system is written in JAVA because it is small, powerful package and can easily be reused in the whole system on different platforms and implemented in embedded system. The effectiveness of proposed method is demonstrated through the experiments using a CAN-based manipulator, which allow remote access for Web-based Java clients.
Nuclear robots should be developed for the reduction of radiation exposure, lower man hours, shorter power outage, and also improved worker safety concerns in performing hazardous and dangerous tasks. Among the components of a nuclear robot system, a robot control system equivalent to a human brain is a crucial point because a nuclear robot does not work without a control system. Therefore, in this paper, we will explain the requirements for a robot control system for a nuclear robot from a general point of view and also review the robot control systems of nuclear robots that were developed domestically, to assist a researcher beginning with the design for the control system of nuclear robots. The explained robot control system will be useful to develop the control system for industrial robots, home robots and other robots which are needed for tele-operation and are controlled through the internet.
This paper proposes a tole force feedback control through internet systems. The system consists of joystick, solver, client, robot, and internet. The main contribution of this work is the implementation of the system rather than theoretical analysis. The time delay problems will be considered next step.

This paper describes the development of tele-robotic interface for the hot-line maintenance robot system. One of main issues in designing human-robot interface for the hot-line maintenance robot system is to plan the control procedure for each part of the robotic system. Another issue is that the actual degree of freedom (DOF) in the hot-line maintenance robot system is much greater than that of available control devices such as joysticks and gloves in the remote-cabin. For this purpose, a virtual simulator, which includes the virtual hot-line maintenance robot system and the environment, is developed in the 3D environment using CAD data. It is assumed that the control operation is done in the remote cabin and the overall work process is observed using the main-camera with 2 DOFs. For the input device, two joysticks, one pedal, two data gloves, and a Head Mounted Display (HMD) with tracker sensor were used. The interface is developed for each control mode. Designed human-interface system is operated using high-level control commands which are intuitive and easy to understand without any special training.
For dismantling heavy structure under special environment in radioactivity, there are many problems which should be tele-operated and feedback a cutting force for cutting a thick structure such as concrete. When operator dismantles a thick heavy concrete structure, it is in sufficient to judge whether robot is contacting or not with environment by using only vision information. To overcome this problem, force feedback and impedance model based bilateral control are introduced. The sliding mode control with sliding perturbation observer (SMCSPO) based bilateral control is applied and surveyed to a single rod hydraulic cylinder in this paper. The sliding mode control is used for robustness against a disturbance. The sliding perturbation observer is used for estimation of a reaction force such as cutting force. The bilateral control is executed using the information of reaction force estimated by SMCSPO. The contribution of this paper is that the estimation method and bilateral control of the single rod hydraulic cylinder are introduced and discussed by experiment.
In this paper, we suggest tele operation system of reclaimers and some side technologies for performing easy operation. The reclaimers in the raw ore yard are being used to dig ironstone and transfer it to the blast furnaces. The side technologies are to determine the minimum stacking distance between piles, collision avoidance of reclaimers and stackers. For simplicity, the pile and the boom of the reclaimer are mathematically modeled as a cone and a line in the 3-dimensional space respectively. The minimum stacking distance is obtained using the condition that the cone and the line never met. The modeling errors for the pile and reclaimers are compensated by considering the width of their reclaimer. We have also proposed a 2-stage collision detection method for the moving machines. The reclaiming heights of the pile are set to predetermined ones to make tele-operation easy.
It is materialized an unmanned vehicle system as a part of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) which is a fundamental constituent for unmanned vehicle. Remote control system, monitoring system and remote operating system which are consisted of unmanned vehicle system. Network program by TCP/IP socket, and real-time control & operating controlled by servo-motors from a remote place, those are used to verify safety and stability of the unmanned vehicle system in this research. This unmanned vehicle is divided into two major sections which are an unmanned vehicle part and control station part. The server PC is installed on the unmanned vehicle and a client PC is installed at a remote place, which can control the u manned vehicle. In this research work, main theme is that we experimented and tested to check the speed and utilization of the wireless LAN communication.
This paper discusses the interacting mobile robots for tele-operation system using the world wide web. In multi-agent and web-based teleoperation environment the problem of communication delay must be solved for the efficient and robust control of the system. The standard graphic user interface(GUI)is implemented using Java Programing language. The web browser is used to integrate the virtual environment and the standard GUI(Java applet) in a single user interface. Users can access a dedicated WWWserver and download the user interface. Reinforcement learning is applied to indirect control in order to autonomously operate without the need of human intervention. Java application has been developed to communicate and control multi robots using WWW. The effectiveness of our multi robots system is verified by simulation and experiments ...
This paper relates to develop the human-mobile interface system using saccadic eye movements as an aid to the disabled. EOG(ElectroOculoGraphy) method is used to measure the potentials of rapid eye movements because the method is not expensive and the device is simple. But because the resolution and accuracy of this signal are not good, the algorithm to remove the drifting, using ideal velocity shape, is applied to process the signals. The mobile robot (POSTUR-II) used in this system was developed in Robot & Bio-mechatronics laboratory in POSTECH and has the tele-operation system for the tele-communication with a main computer. Our Research is to help the physically disabled except his eye movements to operate some works with the mobile. Our Results about the system's possibility will be showed by some experimental tests giving the point information to the mobile by eye-gaze.
