Effects of Early Childhood Teachers' Job Stress on Organizational Commitment: The Mediating Role of Teaching Efficacy Belief (유아교사의 직무스트레스가 조직몰입에 미치는 영향에 있어 교수효능감의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal relationship among job stress, teaching efficacy belief, and organizational commitment for early childhood teachers. Besides, the current study examined the mediating effect of teaching efficacy belief on the relationship between job stress and organizational commitment. The data were gathered through the questionnaires from 500 kindergarten and nursery teachers who are located in D metropolitan city. Among them, the total of 426 subjects were used for analysis from recovered 442. The results indicated that job stress was negatively correlated with teaching efficacy belief and organizational commitment for early childhood teachers. Teaching efficacy belief significantly had a positive relation with organizational commitment. Moreover, teaching efficacy belief turned out to have a partial mediating effect on the relationship between job stress and organizational commitment. This study has its significance in that it looked at the job stress as a predictor variable to explain the organizational commitment, the positive viewpoint by turning away from the early childhood teachers' burnout, and provided the potential for the environmental intervention by confirming the mediating effect of teaching efficacy belief.

A Study of The Relationship Pre-Service Early Childhood Teacher's Playfulness and Play Teaching Efficacy (예비유아교사의 놀이성과 놀이교수효능감과의 관계)

  • This study intended to analyze the early childhood education freshmen's academic interest. For this study relationship pre-service early childhood teacher's playfulness and play teaching efficacy. The study subjects were 145 early childhood education students in third grade at K-college in Deagu. They answered the survey regarding playfulness scale and play teaching efficacy scale. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 18.0 program. The study finding are as follows. First, the average of playfulness and play teaching efficacy were near at the intermediate-level. Second, playfulness and play teaching efficacy were significantly correlated. Third, when examining the relative effect of pre-service early childhood teacher's playfulness on play teaching efficacy, cheerfulness and improvisation is influential factor in play teaching efficacy.

The Effect of the Thinking Styles and Character Development Efficacy of Childhood Educational Teachers on Their Commitment to Teaching (유아교사의 사고양식과 인성개발 효능감이 교직헌신도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is to examine the effect of the thinking styles and character development efficacy of childhood educational teachers on their commitment to teaching with the intention of clarifying that these two factors of childhood educational teachers are important internal variables in enhancing their dedication to teaching, and to seek ways of finding thinking styles and character development efficacy appropriate for childhood educational teachers. Childhood educational teachers at nursing schools and kindergartens located in Daejeon, Chungnam, and Chungbuk were chosen as the study objects. The results are as follows: First, it turned out that childhood educational teachers's commitment to teaching was in close relation to their judicial, monarchy, totalitarian, internal, and liberal thinking styles. As for childhood educational teachers' character development efficacy, personal efficacy and dedication to teaching showed a high level of correlation. This indicates that as childhood educational teachers preferred certain thinking styles, their commitment to teaching also could be enhanced, and that as childhood educational teachers' personal efficacy was high, their commitment to teaching was enhanced as well. Second, as for the positive effect of childhood educational teachers' thinking styles and character development efficacy on their commitment to teaching, it turned out that such factors as judicial and internal thinking styles, common teacher efficacy, and personal teacher efficacy affected professional recognition, such factors as judicial, internal, conservative, liberal thinking styles and personal teacher efficacy influenced their affection for teaching, and such factors as legislative, monarchy, anarchic, and liberal thinking styles and personal teacher efficacy affected zeal.

The Relationship between Teachers' Efficacy Belief and Interactions of Teachers and Children (보육교사의 교사효능감과 교사-유아 상호작용과의 관계)

  • The goal of this study was to examine the relationship between teachers' efficacy belief and interactions between teachers and children of childcare teachers, and utilize the results as the basic data to educate of teachers. The subjects were 205 teachers at 48 childcare centers located in the Jeonlabukdo area. The results of this study are as follows: First, personal teaching efficacy and factors of interactions between teachers and children were significantly different by the types of childcare institution. Second, personal teaching efficacy was correlated positively with teachers' experiences. General teaching efficacy, personal teaching efficacy and factors of interactions between teachers and children were correlated positively with teachers' age. Third, factors of interactions between teachers and children were correlated positively with personal teaching efficacy. Lastly, personal teaching efficacy was the most powerful variable influencing interactions between teachers and children.

Changes of Preservice Biology Teachers' Pedagogical Knowledge and Science Teaching Efficacy Belief through Science Pedagogy Course

  • This study explored changes of preservice biology teachers' pedagogical knowledge and science teaching efficacy belief after the science pedagogy course. Preservice biology teachers who did not take any science pedagogy courses had an opportunity to engage in discussions of educational theories and group activities of instructional design utilizing science instructional models as a first step to develop practical knowledge. These preservice teachers represented a statistically significant increase in their scores on pedagogical knowledge including theory, student development, planning, and implementation, but no statistical difference in their scores measuring science teaching efficacy belief. In addition, the correlation results indicated that the science teaching efficacy belief is related to implementation even though the magnitude is relatively moderate.

  • This study focused on the relationship among playfulness in teachers, teaching efficacy on play and teachers' positive play beliefs in a sample of 151 teachers working childcare center in Seoul and Chungcheungnam-do. The collected data were analyzed using simple regression and hierarchical multiple regression. The main results of this study were as follows. First, teachers' playfulness had a positive influence on their positive play beliefs. Second, teachers' playfulness had a positive influence on their teaching efficacy on play. Finally, effect of teachers' playfulness on their teaching efficacy on children's play was totally mediated by their positive play beliefs.

A Study Concerning the Relationships among an Early Childhood Educator's Type of MBTI Personal Tendencies, Creativity, and Teaching Efficacy (유아교사의 성격 유형, 창의성, 그리고 교수효능감 간의 관계 연구)

  • This study examined the relationship among early childhood educator's MBTI personal tendencies, creativity, and teaching efficacy. 120 kindergarten teachers and 155 day care teachers participated in this study. Several survey questionnaires were used for this study, such as, teaching efficacy scale, MBTI personality tendencies, and a creativity test. The collected data was analyzed with the SPSS program(version 18.0). The findings of this study were as follows: First, there were some differences between an early childhood educator's MBTI personal tendencies and creativity. Secondly, there was a positive correlation among early childhood educator's MBTI personal tendencies, creativity, and teaching efficacy.

  • This study investigated the effect of the 'Chemistry in everyday life' course for 234 pre-service elementary teachers on their beliefs regarding science teaching efficacy and the nature of science. This study also examined the effect of this particular course by their field (natural science, humanities & social science, and fine arts). The results show that after the semester the pre-service teachers' science teaching efficacy beliefs were enhanced. In particular, their personal science teaching efficacy beliefs were improved across all fields. However, their beliefs regarding the nature of science remained largely unchanged. This study discussed the implications surrounding science courses for pre-service teachers.

Early Childhood Teachers' Professionalism, Teaching Efficacy, and Teacher-child Interaction

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of early childhood teachers' professionalism and teaching efficacy on their teacher-child interaction. A total of 761 early childhood teachers working at childcare centers and kindergartens in South Korea were selected as the participants for the study. The study variables were measured using survey questionnaires. Pearson's correlation analyses and regression analyses along with Sobel test were conducted. The results demonstrated that early childhood teachers' teaching efficacy had a significant mediation effect on the relationship between their professionalism and teacher-child interaction. The results suggest the need to support early childhood teachers' recognition and development of professionalism as well as teaching efficacy that result in positive teacher-child interaction.

The Effects of Playfulness and Sensitivity on Play Teaching Efficacy in Early Childhood Teacher (영유아교사의 놀이성과 민감성이 놀이교수 효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is aimed at figuring out the influence of early childhood teachers' playfulness and sensitivity on play teaching efficacy. The subjects of the study were 262 early childhood teachers working in kindergarten and day care centers located in J City. The instruments were the Adult Playfulness Scale, the Sensitivity Scale, and the Play Teaching Efficacy Scale. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS. In order to find out the general background of the early childhood teachers, frequency and percentage were used. In addition, in order to assess the relationships among playfulness, sensitivity, and the play teaching efficacy of an early childhood teacher, Pearson's correlation analysis was carried out. Lastly, for examination of the effects and a relative explanation of the effects of playfulness and sensitivity on play teaching efficacy in early childhood teachers, a multiple regression analysis was conducted. The results of this study are as follows. First, there was positive correlation among playfulness, sensitivity, and play teaching efficacy in the early childhood teacher. Second, play teaching efficacy of early childhood teachers was influenced by their playfulness and sensitivity. In conclusion, the significance of this study is that there was a significant correlation among playfulness, sensitivity, and play teaching efficacy in early childhood teachers, and that both of the first two variables were factors influencing play teaching efficacy.
