  • In this study, I used McAnallen Anxiety in Mathematics Teaching Survey Tool to analyze 214 South Korean elementary teachers' anxiety for teaching mathematics. From the analysis of ANOVA and Regression Model, I found that there are statistically significant differences among teachers regarding anxiety for teaching mathematics according to their academic backgrounds, certification levels and teaching experiences. On the other hand, there is no statistically significant difference according to their gender. From the findings of this study, I found that there is a possibility of reducing teachers' anxiety for teaching mathematics with teacher education programs.

  • In this study, I investigate the relationship between mathematics anxiety and mathematics teacher anxiety of elementary school teachers with integrated method. As a result of statistical analysis of the survey of 256 elementary school teachers, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between the two factors (r = .630, p <.05). The analysis show that teaching experience and degree may affect mathematics anxiety and teaching experience, degree, and teacher qualification may affect mathematics teaching anxiety. Subsequently I conduct a qualitative study focusing on interviews with 20 elementary school teachers. As a result of the analysis, I confirm that even if the mathematics anxiety is low, mathematics teaching anxiety may occur due to the teaching environment. As a result of the quantitative and qualitative analysis of this study, Korean elementary school teachers' mathematics anxiety and mathematics teaching anxiety might be regarded as separate factors. From the result of the study, I suggest that mathematics anxiety and mathematics teaching anxiety of elementary school teachers, each emotional state might be considered as independent emotional status. The implication of the study indicate that independent methods might be developed in order to prevent and treat mathematics anxiety and mathematics teaching anxiety in elementary school teachers.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument measuring mathematics anxiety suitable for Korean High school students. In order to achieve this study purpose, the study was conducted according to the procedure of setting components of mathematics anxiety, developing questions, and verifying validity and reliability. First, in order to set the components of mathematic anxiety, previous studies on mathematic anxiety. Through this, six factors of mathematic anxiety were derived. Next, new questions were developed for each of the six constituent factors. The 122 questions were revised and supplemented through two content validity tests, and the final instrument for mathematics anxiety consisted of 49 questions of 6 factors. Finally, to verify the validity and reliability of the measurement instrument for mathematics anxiety, a survey was conducted on 1,848 students from 16 universities in Seoul and the metropolitan area. Next, a validity analysis was conducted with the 1,645 responses, excluding students who answered that there was no mathematics anxiety. As a result of exploratory factor analysis, 15 out of 49 questions were removed. Six factors were named individual characteristics, pressure on achievement, abstraction in mathematics, teaching and learning style, parental attitudes, and cumulative mathematics subjects. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, the model fit was found to be appropriate, and the convergence validity and discriminant validity were found to be good.

  • Recently, Topological Data Analysis (TDA) has attracted attention among various techniques for analyzing big data. Mapper algorithm, which is one of TDA techniques, is used to visualize the cluster diagram. In this study, students were clustered according to the characteristics and degree of mathematics anxiety using a mapper, and students were visualized according to mathematics anxiety. In order to do this, Mathematical Anxiety Scale (Ko & Yi, 2011) in the aspect of mathematical instability in terms of teaching - learning, ie, Nature of Mathematics, Learning Strategy, Test/Performance is used. And the number of questions that measure the anxiety of mathematics can be extracted by extracting the most relevant items among the items that measure the anxiety of mathematics.

  • Mathematics anxiety is a term for emotional and physical resistance to mathematics. Understanding students' mathematics anxiety is important not only in terms of improving mathematics academic achievement, but also in nurturing mathematics manpower necessary for the future society. In particular, mathematics anxiety is most likely to occur in elementary school, and it has a negative effect on subsequent learning. Therefore, it is important to understand the aspects of students' mathematics anxiety in elementary school. In this study, I presented the patterns of changes in students' mathematics anxiety over time and statistically verified them. As a result of a follow-up survey of 249 elementary school students' mathematics anxiety for 3 years from 4th to 6th grade, it was found that, rather than having a special pattern related to the formation of math anxiety, it may increase and decrease and vary depending on individual confirmed. Later, in this study, five patterns of Mathematics anxiety patterns were identified through statistical analysis. In addition, I confirmed that the students' interest about teachers' mathematics lessons was consistently influencing the change in mathematics anxiety. The results of this study will increase students' understanding of the formation of mathematics anxiety and can be used as basic data for the development of teaching and learning materials related to mathematics anxiety in the future and subsequent research.

  • The benefits of teaching learning materials to others have been shown on learning achievement. Anxiety is one of the obstacles in learning and it has been shown that math anxiety is strongly associated with math achievement. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate whether teaching others benefits math anxiety when university students learn statistics. 59 students who enrolled in statistics class participated and 30 students performed group assignment of teaching peer in a group and 29 students did not. Other than group assignments, the instructor, lectures, assignment of solving the problems, and exams were all the same. The results showed that the math anxiety of students who did group assignments of teaching was decreased at the end the semester. Increased math anxiety yielded negative attitudes toward learning statistics, resulting in poor learning performance. Furthermore, the relationship between math anxiety and the attitudes toward leaning statistics was moderated by teaching others. The results suggest that teaching others has an effect on reducing math anxiety and thus, possibly yield persistent learning gains.

  • This study examined and compared the level of mathematical anxiety according to the types of students' characteristics based on the former research study showing that there exists a close relationship between characteristics and mathematical anxiety. The subjects of this study are 159 students enrolled in Chungnam Gongju and Kyunggi-do Ahnyang. They were categorized into groups following various standards such as preference index(E-1, S-N, T-F, J-P), ability & disposition, 16 types of characteristics. Then these were tested for types and the level of mathematical anxiety by the factors of mathematical anxiety. The results show that Type E students show the greatest anxiety in learning motivation, and Type N students in the pedagogy of teaching and loaming for the subfactor of mathematical anxiety. Further, Type NT students respond strongly to the pedagogy of teaching and loaming in psychological ability and disposition, which shows that mathematical anxiety and sub-factors of mathematical anxiety are closely somehow related.
