  • Children in one-parent families have difficulties from negative perception and prejudice in society in spite of increasing divorce rate and the substantial number of one-parent families. This research aims to provide basic setting-up materials of the equal educational environment to children in one-parent families by examining teachers' perception and attitudes towards those children, and also analysing which factors are associated with the teachers' perceptions and attitudes. In particular, by exploring teachers' internalized value system and stereotyped conception are closely related to the process of evaluating children's personality and behavior, this research suggests that social consciousness to one-parent families should be changed and improved in terms of equality. According to the research result, most teachers notice that children in one-parent families are increasing by number at schools, however, they do not seem to understand properly children's situations including psychological condition. Teachers' negative perception of children in one-parent families are not only influenced by teachers' socio-demographic characteristics, experience factors and children's school life, but also by teachers' own personal value of familism and divorce. Such teachers' attitudes towards one-parent family children are easily predicted to influence children's confidentiality and self-respect. Therefore, it is proposed that the change of social consciousness on one-parent families, the change of educational system and educational environment, development of educational training program for teachers, allocation of school social worker or school counsellor, and empowerment of one-parent family are necessary in order children in one-parent families to have more equitable opportunities at school.

  • The aim of the present study is to explore the following two key questions on woman's attitude toward the clothing : (1) Their willingness to make their own dress at home : (2) purchasing tendencies of ready-made wear. The data were drawn through questionaires collected form 495 women in random sampling-335 housewives and 160 high school woman teachers living in Seoul. The findings are ; 1. As a whole there is no significant difference between the teachers and the housewives in their attitudes on clothing and home dressmaking. 2. Teachers and housewives alike have shown the tendency to avoid to take the trouble to make their own dresses themselves due, in large measure, to the technical difficulties of dressmarking. 3. On account of general shortcomings of ready-made clothing such as poor quality cloth, casual workmanship, inadequate assortment, unfitness of size to figure and outdated fashion, they purchase ready-made only for casual uses and really resort to tailor made for formal dresses. Since this paper is preliminary report, the accounts are to intend to be suggestive rather than conclusive, and more detailed and profound must, of course, await further empirical research.

SPSS programme was used for statistical analysis. Sixty five point eight percent of the Korean early child care center teachers provided a certain amount of foods for children. But $20.9\%$ of Swedish provided a certain amount of foods for children, $79.1\%$ of them provided the amount a child wanted. Sixty one point seven percent of Korean teachers allowed a child leave foods on the plate, but $95.5\%$ of Swedish teachers asked a child eat all food on the plate. When a child didn't want to eat, $61.1\%$ of the Korean teachers fed him/her, but $11.0\%$ of the Swedish teachers did. Only $42.4\%$ of the Swedish teachers allowed a children eat sweets, but $92.9\%$ of Korean did. • The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between parental attitudes, teachers' autonomy support as perceived by high school students, and the self-directed learning abilities of high school students. A total of 341 high school students from South Korea participated in the study. A survey instrument was used to measure parental attitudes, teacher autonomy support, and students' self-directed learning ability. The results of the study are as follows. First, the rearing attitudes of parents were perceived by the participants as oriented more toward being attainable and relatively less self-directed. There were no significant differences between male and female students, though male students were more likely to perceive their parents' attitudes as more attainable-oriented. The results also show that, in terms of self-directed learning skills among high school students, the more goal-oriented, compassionate, and autonomous the parental attitudes are, the likelier are students to have developed self-directed learning skills. Second, the male students were more aware of the autonomy support of teachers than were the female students. This shows that the results have significant predictive power over the self-directed learning ability among high school students. Accordingly, the perception of autonomy support by teachers affects the development of self-directed learning among students. We can therefore conclude that self-directed learning skills develop most effectively in students who are supported by their teachers.
