  • Schottky diodes for Radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag integration on chip were designed and fabricated using Samsung electronics System LSI standard $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. Schottky diodes were designed as interdigitated fingers array by CMOS layout design rule. 64 types of Schottky diode were designed and fabricated with the variation of finger width, length and numbers with a $0.6{\mu}m$ guard ring enclosing n-well. Titanium was used as Schottky contact metal to lower the Schottky barrier height. Barrier height of the fabricated Schottky diode was 0.57eV. DC current - voltage measurements showed that the fabricated Schottky diode had a good rectifying properties with a breakdown voltage of -9.15 V and a threshold voltage of 0.25 V.

  • UHF band omnidirectional antennas for RFID tag were designed. Crossed loaded dipole and bended dipole were applied to be designed for both miniaturization and omnidirectional radiation pattern. By suppling 90 degrees phase difference between crossed dipoles, omnidirectional E-plane patterns can be obtained. -10 dB reflection coefficients of 3 types dipole antenna which have designed under conjugate matched with input impedance of chip were shown as 670-1,050 MHz, 700-1,250 MHz and 600-1,020 MHz, respectively, and also shown that all antenna have omnidirectional radiation pattern both E and H plane.

  • In this paper, we examined the operating principle of a passive tag antenna for RFID system in UHF band. Based on the study, we proposed a novel RFID tag antenna which adopts the inductively coupled feeding structure to match antenna impedance to a capacitively loaded commercial tag chip. The proposed tag antenna consists of microstrip lines on a thin PET substrate for low-cost fabrication. The detail structure of the tag antenna were optimized using a full electromagnetic wave simulator of IE3D in conjunction with a Pareto genetic algorithm and the size of the tag antenna can be reduced up to kr=0.27($2 cm^2$). We built some sample antennas and measured the antenna characteristics such as a return loss, an efficiency, and radiation patterns. The readable range of the tag antenna with a commercial RFID system showed about 1 to 3 m.

  • This paper presents the development of RFID educational system based on 900MHz air interface between the reader and the active tag. The software of reader and the active tag is developed on embedded environment, and the software of PC controlling the reader is based on window OS operated as the server. The ATmega128 VLSI chip is used for the processor of the reader and the active tag. As the development environment, AVR compiler is used for the reader and the active tag of which the programming language is C. The visual C++language of the visual studio on the PC activated as the server is used for development language. Main functions of this system are to control tag containing EPC global Data by PC through the reader, to obtain information of tag through the internet and to read/write data on tag memory. Software design of 900MHz RFID/USN educational system is done on the basis of these functions.

  • Radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor tag provides several advantages including battery-less operation and low cost, which are suitable for long-term monitoring. This paper presents a self-powered RFID temperature sensor tag for online temperature monitoring in substation. The proposed sensor tag is used to measure and process the temperature of high voltage equipments in substation, and then wireless deliver the data. The proposed temperature sensor employs a novel phased-locked loop (PLL)-based architecture and can convert the temperature sensor in frequency domain without a reference clock, which can significantly improve the temperature accuracy. A two-stage rectifier adopts a series of auxiliary floating rectifier to boost its gate voltage for higher power conversion efficiency. The sensor tag chip was fabricated in TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$ 1P6M CMOS process. The measurement results show that the proposed temperature sensor tag achieve a resolution of $0.15^{\circ}C$/LSB and a temperature error of $-0.6/0.7^{\circ}C$ within the range from $-30^{\circ}C$ to $70^{\circ}C$. The proposed sensor tag achieves maximum communication distance of 11.8 m.

  • RFID in which subminiature IC chip with the indentified information is built a core technique that can recognize, trace and manage various information of an object using radio frequency in the age of Ubiquitous. Several pressing matters about an infringement of Privacy and a security of private information should be settled as soon as possible because an information of specific circumstance can be collected and used without any awareness by others as well as a private information. In addition, various algorithms with high level of security, which is normally used in wire, can be hardly applied to RFID tag because of a lot of restrictions of tag. In this report, designed-RFID tag based on the standard of ISO/IEC 18000-6 and the problems which originated from the technical procedure of that design were analyzed, and the algorithm which could be applied to the designed-tag was also investigated.

  • In this paper, a small RFID tag antenna in UHF band which has bandwidth-enhanced characteristic is proposed. The shape of the proposed antenna is a meander antenna to have size-reduced characteristic, and it consists of two radiators which make dual resonance in adjacent frequency to enhance bandwidth. By adjusting length and location of each radiator, the proposed antenna can make dual resonance at arbitrary location on the Smith chart, which is able to make impedance matching with RFID tag chip in wide frequency range. And it is apparent that the proposed antenna can have bandwidth-enhanced characteristic according to the simulated and measured results.

  • This article proposes an ultrahigh frequency band radio frequency identification (RFID) tag antenna for drug runout management that can be used in hospitals. The RFID tag antenna is designed to function as a sensor that alerts drug runout when a drug inside a drip chamber is completely consumed but does not work when a drug remains inside a drop chamber. A previously proposed 915 MHz dipole antenna, is too large to be attached to the drip chamber of a feeding bag. Moreover, the length of the dipole (L) should be increased for conjugate matching with an RFID chip. Therefore, the dipole antenna is downsized so that it can be attached to the drip chamber through a fine meander line structure coupling with a corrugate meander line. A transparent cover is added to enhance the grip force between the designed antenna and the drip chamber and to enable detachment. The dimensions of the completed antenna structure attachable to a drip chamber are 32.59 mm (height) and 13.5 mm (width). The gain reduction due to the decreased antenna length is enhanced. The fabricated antenna shows an average omni-directional read range of 10.65 m on a horizontal plane and has the function of sensing the presence of a drug.

  • Since the communication networks like the Internet collapses at disaster and calamity sites, a maintenance system that can be operated offline is required for the maintenance of various facilities. In this paper, we propose a system that memory tags attached on the facilities may transmit the emergency manual to a smart-phone, and the smart phone displays it off-line. The main issue is to design low energy mode memory tags. This study presents two kinds of methods and analyzes each's energy consumption mode. The first one is to develop memory tags by using one chip, and the next one is to design memory tags by forming multi-modules. Both ways show proper application fields under the low energy mode. This research selects the off-line maintenance system by using one chip design, and proposes the direction of contents for enhancing the effectiveness of the system. And we expect that this memory tags will be valuable for disaster scenes as well as battle fields.

  • In surface mount technology, with cellular phones and flat panel displays shrinking in size, the electric goods for making these things are getting smaller as well. Therefore, the technology of mounting components such as 0402 and 0603 Chip is on the rise. The chip mount manufacturing companies have studied the mount technology to prevent the missing insertions or improper insertion. This study suggests arranging the mechanical structure by using fiber sensors to eliminate missing insertions or improper insertions and developing the technology for upgrading system algorithms.
