  • A spreadsheet-based linear program (LP) software, so called, the LP-Tableau is developed to aid users to learn the simplex algorithm systematically and to understand the various conditions that make the problem unusual and, in some instances, impossible to solve. The LP-Tableau has several good features over other spreadsheet-based LP software programs available. First, the data input in the LP-Tableau is very convenient especially when small-sized problems are analyzed. Further, the LP-Tableau allows for two solution methods (i.e., Big-M and Two-Phase) and displays the whole iterations in tableau format. Thus users can easily understand the principle of the algorithm step by step. Finally, the LP-Tableau visually displays various conditions of the optimal solutions that might occur in solving the LP problems.

  • We provide two shifted analogues of the tableau switching process due to Benkart, Sottile, and Stroomer; the shifted tableau switching process and the modified shifted tableau switching process. They are performed by applying a sequence of elementary transformations called switches and shares many nice properties with the tableau switching process. For instance, the maps induced from these algorithms are involutive and behave very nicely with respect to the lattice property. We also introduce shifted generalized evacuation which exactly agrees with the shifted J-operation due to Worley when applied to shifted Young tableaux of normal shape. Finally, as an application, we give combinatorial interpretations of Schur P- and Schur Q-function related identities.

  • Schensted algorithm was first described in 1938 by Robinson [5], in a paper dealing with an attempt to prove the correctness of the Littlewood-Richardson rule. Schensted [9] rediscovered Schensted algorithm independently in 1961 and Viennot [12] gave a geometric interpretation for Schensted algorithm in 1977. In this paper we describe some properties of Schensted algorithm using Viennot's geometric interpretation.

  • Recently, according to the increasingly populated data, many media and organizations focus on big data, data visualization, information visualization and infographics. Domestically, Chosun.com and Hankyoreh online have improved on the data visualization field and internationally, the Guardian, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times are the leading companies on that area. Until now, many people have recognized infographics as a design-oriented product in Korea. However, one of significant data visualization programs, Tableau Public, can visualize data more efficiently. In this paper, Data Visualization Methods Quadrant for Policy Making is defined, and data analysis and producing infographics are executed. As used data, World Bank open source was adopted and using the number of passenger cars per 1,000 people, two analysis results are extracted. First, in high income group, the more GNI per capita, the lesser Slope is represented and in mid income group, the more GNI per capita positively affects to Slope. Second, in the global finance crisis, the car ownership rate was about 1.7 times than the usual state in the global economy. Through the case study, this paper suggests that the direction of producing infographics should be changed from design-oriented to data-oriented. Moreover, the data-oriented infographics should be propagated as means of scientific research and policy making.

  • The objective of this paper is to describe a systematic accident scenario analysis method(SASA) adept at creating accident scenarios for the design of safer products. This approach was inspired by the Quality Function Deployment(QFD) method, which is conventionally used in quality management. In this study, the QFD provides a formal and systematic scheme to devise accident scenarios while maintaining objectivity. SASA consists of three key stages to be broken down into a series of consecutive steps:(1) developing an accident analysis tableau,(2) devising the accident scenarios using the accident analysis tableau,(3) performing a feasibility test, a clustering process and a patterning process, and finally(4) performing quantitative evaluation of each accident scenario. The SASA was applied to a case study of child safety seats. The accident analysis tableau devised 2828(maximum) accident scenarios from all possible relationships between the hazard factors and situation characteristics. Among them, 270 scenarios were devised through the feasibility test and the clustering process. The patterning process reduced them to 29 patterns representative of all accident scenarios. Based on an intensive analysis of the accident patterns, design guidelines for a safer child safety seat were recommended. The implications of the study on the child safety seat case were then discussed.

  • The notion of a parabolically semistandard tableau is a generalisation of Young tableau, which explains combinatorial aspect of various Howe dualities of type A. We prove a Jacobi-Trudi type formula for the character of parabolically semistandard tableaux of a given generalised partition shape by using non-intersecting lattice paths.

  • This study aimed to examine the effects of a science-learning program based on data visualization on the science inquiry and creative problem-solving abilities of elementary school science-gifted students. Accordingly, this research developed a data visualization science-learning program using Tableau, which had twelve sessions. The subjects encompassed 61 students in three gifted classes taught by the researcher. The scientific inquiry ability test and creative problem-solving ability test modified to suit the environment and situation were given to the subjects before and after the treatment. The results confirmed that science learning based on data visualization had no significant impact on basic science inquiry skills. Among the subdomains, significant results were obtained only in the reasoning subdomain. Moreover, integrative inquiry ability was significantly affected, unlike basic inquiry abilities. Among the five subdomains, significant differences were observed in three subdomains (data conversion, data interpretation, and variable control). However, concerning the generation of hypotheses and the control of variables, students exhibited confusion regarding the process of variable control and the exact concept of hypothesis development. This study also evaluated the effects of the program's application on creative problem-solving abilities and found a significant impact. Additionally, it was significantly different in all four subdomains. The results were interpreted to be owing to the students' mastery of Tableau's features, collaborative learning through discussion and debate, and the thematic impact of the data visualization program emphasizing procedural thinking. Finally, this study presented implications for science learning based on data visualization and the future direction of education.

  • In [6] Schensted constructed the Schensted algorithm, which gives a bijection between permutations and pairs of standard tableaux of the same shape. Stanton and White [8] gave analog of the Schensted algorithm for rim hook tableaux. In this paper we give a generalization of Stanton and White's Schensted algorithm for rim hook tableaux. If k is a fixed positive integer, it shows a one-to-one correspondence between all generalized hook permutations $\mathcal{H}$ of size k and all pairs (P, Q), where P and Q are semistandard k-rim hook tableaux and k-rim hook tableaux of the same shape, respectively.

  • A previous work gave a combinatorial description of the crystal B(${\infty}$), in terms of certain simple Young tableaux referred to as the marginally large tableaux, for finite dimensional simple Lie algebras. Using this result, we present an explicit description of the crystal B(${\lambda}$), in terms of the marginally large tableaux, for the $G_2$ Lie algebra type. We also provide a new description of B(${\lambda}$), in terms of Nakajima monomials, that is in natural correspondence with our tableau description.
