Effect of Cu-Additions on the Hand-Over Layer of an Aluminum Alloy - Hardening for the Top Ring Groove of Automotive Piston by the Plasma Transferred Arc Welding Process -

  • The surface of AC8A Ah alloy was modified by adding the Cu powder using a Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) welding process. Under the optimum fabricating conditions, the modified surface of AC8A Ah alloy was observed to possess the sound microstructure with a minimum porosity. Hardness and wear resistance properties of the as-fabricated alloy were compared with those of the 76 heat-treated one. In case of the as-fabricated alloy, the hardness of the modified layer was twice that of the matrix region. Although significant increase in the hardness of the matrix region was observed after T6 heat treatment, the hardness of the modified layer was not observed to change. The wear resistance of the modified layer was significantly increased compared to that of the matrix region. The microstructure of a weld zone and the matrix region were investigated using the optical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The primary and eutectic silicon in the weld zone were finer and more curved than in the matrix region, while some precipitates has had been found therein. According to the TEM observation, the predominant precipitate present in the weld zone was the $\theta$'phase, which is precipitated during cooling by rapid solidification in PTA welding process. Improvement of hardness and wear properties in the weld zone in the as-fabricated condition can be explained based on the presence of $\theta$’precipitates and fine primary and eutectic silicon distribution.

  • We investigated the role of the capping layers in the formation of the cobalt silicide in Co/Si systems with TiN and Ti capping layers and without capping layers. The Co/Si interfacial reactions and the phase transformations by the rapid thermal annealing (RTA) processes were observed by sheet resistance measurements, XRD, SIMS and TEM analyses for the clean silicon substrate as well as for the chemically oxidized silicon substrate by $H_2SO_4$. We observed the retardation of the cobalt disilicide formation in the Co/Si system with Ti capping layers. In the case of Co/$SiO_2$/Si system, cobalt silicide was formed by the Co/Si reaction due to with the dissociation of the oxide layer by the Ti capping layers.

  • We investigated the oxidation behavior of poly $Si_{1-x}Ge_x$ films (X=0.15, 0.42) at $700^{\circ}C$ in wet oxidation ambients and analyzed the oxide by XPS, RBS, and cross-sectional TEM. In the case of poly $Si_{0.85}Ge_{0.15}$ films, $SiO_2$ was formed on the poly $Si_{1-x}Ge_x$ films and Ge was rejected from growing oxide, subsequently leading to the increase of Ge content. In the case of poly $Si_{0.58}Ge_{0.42}$ films, we found that $SiO_2-GeO_2$ were formed on the poly $Si_{1-x}Ge_x$ films due to high Ge content. Finally, we proposed the oxidation model of poly $Si_{1-x}Ge_x$ films.

Antimicrobial Resistance and Implicated Genes of E. coli Isolated from Commercial and Cooked Foods in Seoul (서울시내 유통식품에서 분리한 대장균의 항생제 내성 및 내성유전자)

  • Distribution of foodborne E. coli strains, antimicrobial resistant genes and antimicrobial susceptibility have been carried out on E. coli isolated from commercial and cooked foods distributed food in Seoul. Of total 1,313 samples, fifty samples(3.8%) were found E. coli that included one of the ETEC and EPEC, respectively. The serotype of ETEC in seasoning raw meat was E. coli O26 and produced Verotoxin 2. Fifty percentage of total isolates were susceptible to all antimicrobial agents. Specially, there were ampicillin(36%), amoxicillin/clavulanic acid(32%) and tetracycline(22%) etc. Resistant gene (tetB) were found in four tetracycline resistant E. coli strains, and TEM gene was found in one ampicillin resistant E. coli isolate.

  • To detect the virulence genes (invA and spvC) and antimicrobial resistance genes, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was carried out using total 67 strains of S. Schwarzengrund isolated from pigs. As results, invA was detected from all 67 strains of S. Schwarzengrund, however, spvC was not at all. All 12 strains with ampicillin resistance, 15 strains with chloramphenicol resistance, 9 strains with kanamycin resistance, 1 strain with sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim resistance, and 66 (98.5%) of 67 strains with tetracycline resistance carried TEM (${\beta}$-lactamase $bla_{TEM}$), cmlA (nonenzymatic chloramphenicol resistance), aphA1-Iab (aminoglycoside phosphotransferase), sulII (dihydropteroate synthase), and tetA (class A tetracycline resistance), respectively. All 63 strains with streptomycin resistance carried 3 aminoglycoside resistance genes, including aadA (aminoglycoside adenyltransferase), strA, and strB (streptomycin phosphotransferase). With respect to prevalence of antibiotic resistance genes occurred in S. Schwarzengrund, genes for strB (46.0%); strA and strB (30.2%); aadA, strA, and strB (9.5%); strA (7.9%); aadA and strB (3.2%); and aadA (3.2%) were detected by PCR.

A Study about the Strength and Microstructure of Hardened Cement Pastes Including Nanofibers (나노 섬유를 혼합한 시멘트 페이스트의 미세구조와 강도에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, the effect of nanofibers in cement pastes on the compressive and tensile strength of hardened cement pastes was studied. Two types of nanofibers, nylon 66 nanofibers and carbon nanotube-nylon 66 hybrid nanofibers, were manufactured by electrospinning methodology and mixed in cement powder respectively. The specimens for experiments were prepared by water to cement ratio of 0.5 and cured in water for 28 days. The effect of nanofibers on the increase of the compressive and tensile strength were confirmed by the experimental results. The well-linking effect of nanofibers in the microstructure of the hardened cement pastes has been found by scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis and well-explained for the increase in mechanical strength. Besides, field emission transmission electron microscope (FE-TEM) analysis and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) have also been conducted to analyze the properties of nanofibers as well as the microstructure of the hardened modified cement pastes.

The Effect of Ti to Zr Addition Ratio on the Thermal Stability of Mechanically Alloyed Al-8wt.% (Ti+Zr) Alloy (기계적합금화한 Al-8wt.%(Ti+Zr)합금의 열적안정성에 미치는 Ti : Zr첨가비의 영향)

  • The effect of Zr content on the thermal stability of mechanically alloyed Al-8wt.% (Ti+Zr) alloys was investigated. As the Zr to Ti addition ratio increased the decrease of hardness due to the long time exposure at high temperature reduced so that the thermal stability of the alloy was improved. From the TEM work it was found that the coarsening of precipitates was responsible for the decrease of hardness and the coarsening of precipitates could be suppressed by the addition of Zr, XRD, SAD and EDS analyses confirmed that these precipitates were consisted of DO$\sub$22/, and DO$\sub$23/ type Al$_3$(Ti+Zr) ternary in termetallic compounds. Especially for the DO$\sub$23/ Al$_3$(Ti+Zr), the lattice parameter changed toward the smaller lattice mismatch between the precipitate and Al matrix as the Zr content increased. Therefore, it was considered that the improvement of thermal stability of Al-8wt.% (Ti+Zr) alloys was due to the formation of the ternary Al$_3$( Ti + Zr) intermetallic compounds.

Variations in electrical properties and interface reactions of $Ta_{2}O_{5}-Si$ by RTA post annealing (RTA 후속 열처리에 의한 $Ta_{2}O_{5}-Si$ 계면 반응과 전기적 특성 변화)

  • PECVD(Plasma-enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition)법을 이용하여 증착한 $Ta_{2}$O_{5}$ 박막의 전기적 특성과 미세구조에 미치는 RTA(Rapid Thermal annealing) 후속 고온 열처리의 영향을 조사하였다. $Ta_{2}$O_{5}$ 박막의 미세구조와 interface 거동을 관찰하기 위하여XRD(X-ray Diffractometer), TEM(Transmission Electron Microscope), AES(Auger Electron Spectroscope) 분석을 실시하였으며, 전기적 특성을 관찰하기 위하여 I-V, C-V 측정을 하였다. $600^{\circ}C$에서 60초간 열처리를 실시하였을 경우 가장 우수한 유전 특성 및 누설 전류 특성을 보였으며, 유전 상수는 26이었고 누설 전류는 5 $\times$ $10^{-11}$A/$cm^{2}$이었다. $600^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서 행한 열처리에 의하여 박막의 누설 전류와 유전 특성은 복합적으로 영향을 받았음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 $600^{\circ}C$의 열처리에서 이루어지고있는 박막의 결함감소와 고밀화 현상과 함께 80$0^{\circ}C$ 이상의 열처리에서 발생하는 조밀육방정 결정 구조를 가지는 $\delta$-$Ta_{2}$O_{5}$의 결정화에 기인함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 TEM과 AES분석 결과로부터 이들 박막의 누설 전류와 유전상수의 변화는 열처리에 의하여 일어나는 Ta-O-Si transition층의 생성과 성장에 기인함을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 $Ta_{2}$O_{5}$ 박막의 전기적 특성의 변화는 RTA 후속 열처리에 따른 계면 반응과 결정화 그리고 박막의 조밀화에 그 영향이 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • Using $Ba(OH)_2{\cdot}8H_2O, \;Sr(OH)_2{\cdot}8H_2O$ and $Ti(i-OC_3H_7)_4$, fine $(Ba_{1-x}, \;Sr_{x})TiO_3$ powders were synthesized through sol-gel process. The particle size of the powders calcined at $700^{\cric}C$ proved to be 20-40nm by the observation of TEM micrographs and measurement of BET specific surface area. The analysis of XRD patterns showed that the phase of the powders was cubic, and it was identified with the lattice parameters determined through XRD patterns and the shift of (112) peaks that the solid solution powders were synthesized. It was expected through the analysis of relative ratio of cations and the uniformity of compositions in the powders examined by EDAX analysis and relative dielectric constant measurements for sintered body that the distribution of cations was uniform in particle unit.

A Study on the Precipitation Behavior of Carbide Particle in L12-type Intermetallic Compound Ni3Al (L12형 금속간화합물 Ni3Al중에 탄화물입자의 석출거동에 관한 연구)

  • Structural studies have been performed on precipitation hardening discovered in $L1_2-ordered\;Ni_3(Al,Cr)$ containing 0.2 to 3.0 mol% of carbon using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Fine octahedral precipitates of $M_{23}C_6$ appeared in the matrix by aging at temperatures around 973 K after solution treatment at 1423 K. TEM examination revealed that the $M_{23}C_6$ phase and the matrix lattices have a cube-cube orientation relationship and keep partial atomic matching at the {111} interface. After prolonged aging or by aging at higher temperatures, the $M_{23}C_6$ precipitates then adopt a rod-like morphology elongated parallel to the <100> directions. Deformation at temperature below 973 K, typical Orowan loops were observed surrounding the $M_{23}C_6$ particles. At higher deformation temperatures, the Orowan loops disappeared and the morphology of dislocations at the particle-matrix interfaces suggested the existence of attractive interaction between dislocations and particles. The change of the interaction modes between dislocation and particles with increasing deformation temperature can be considered as a result of strain relaxation at the interface between matrix and particles.
