  • Feed-back type 3-axis flux-gate magnetometer using Co-based amorphous ribbon (Metglass$^{(R)}$2714A) was constructed in this work. Measuring range of magnetic field and frequency were ${\pm}100\;{\mu}T$ and dc~10 Hz respectively. For the interface to computer, microcontroller and 24 bit ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) were employed and resolution of digital output was 0.1 nT. Magnetometer noise of analog output was 5 pT/$\sqrt{Hz}$ at 1 Hz. Digital output of the magnetometer showed linearity of $1{\times}10^{-4}$ and the offset drift was smaller than 0.2 nT during 1 h.

  • A gene encoding a lipase, lipT, was cloned from the psychrotrophic bacterium Pseudomonas mandelii and sequenced. An open reading frame of 1,686 bp was found that encodes a polypeptide consisting of 562 amino acid residues. Sequence analysis revealed a Gly-His-Ser-Leu-Gly sequence, which matches the consensus Gly-X-Ser-X-Gly motif conserved among lipolytic enzymes. The recombinant LipT protein was predominantly expressed as inclusion bodies in Escherichia coli and subsequently purified by nickel-chelate affinity chromatography. A small fraction of LipT was refolded, and the subsequent LipT exhibited substrate preferences for p-nitrophenyl butyrate (C4) and p-nitrophenyl octanoate (C8).

  • We propose an active color model based method for tracking motions of multiple human using a networked multiple-camera system in IoT space as a human-robot coexistent system. An IoT space is a space where many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors(color CCD cameras for example), are distributed. Human beings can be a part of IoT space as well. One of the main goals of IoT space is to assist humans and to do different services for them. In order to be capable of doing that, IoT space must be able to do different human related tasks. One of them is to identify and track multiple objects seamlessly. In the environment where many camera modules are distributed on network, it is important to identify object in order to track it, because different cameras may be needed as object moves throughout the space and IoT space should determine the appropriate one. This paper describes appearance based unknown object tracking with the distributed vision system in IoT space. First, we discuss how object color information is obtained and how the color appearance based model is constructed from this data. Then, we discuss the global color model based on the local color information. The process of learning within global model and the experimental results are also presented.

  • To cultivate pine mushroom (Tricholoma matsutake) artificially, co-cultivation with microorganisms has been introduced. Here, experiments were performed to assess the growth-promoting effect of bacteria on T. matsutake mycelia. Bacteria were isolated from soil samples collected in Yangyang County, Korea. Four of the bacterial isolates (Y22_B06, Y22_B11, Y22_B18, and Y22_B22) exhibited a growth-promoting effect on T. matsutake mycelia (154.67%, 125.91%, 134.06%, and 158.28%, respectively). To analyze the characteristics of the bacteria, especially the antifungal activity, 𝛼-amylase and cellulase activity assays were performed. In comparison with the controls, the isolated bacteria exhibited low 𝛼-amylase and cellulase activity. 16S rRNA gene sequencing was performed to identify the four bacterial isolates. The isolates belonged to the Terrabacteria group and were identified as Microbacterium paraoxydans, Paenibacillus castaneae, Peribacillus frigoritolerans, and P. butanolivorans. These bacterial isolates are expected to have contributed to the growth promotion of T. matsutake mycelia and the artificial cultivation of T. matsutake.

  • Two hundred fifty eight Hanwoo steers were used in a completely randomized design experiment to determine the effects of ad libitum or restricted feeding of concentrates on body weight(BW) gain, feed intake, blood metabolites and hematological parameters. Steers were assigned at 6 months of age to feeding groups of ad libitum(T1) or restricted(T2) by 18 months of age. Steers in both groups were fed ad libitum from 19 months of age. The restrictive feeding levels were 1.2-1.5% of BW for the growing period and 1.7-1.8% of BW for the early fattening period. Average daily gains were significantly higher in T1 than in T2 from 10 to 14 months of age, but were significantly higher in T2 than in T1 from 20 to 24 months of age(p<0.05). Total dry matter intake(DMI) was higher in T1 than in T2 at 10, 12 and 16 months of age(p<0.05). Total DMI of T2 was higher than that of T1 at 22 months of age(p<0.05). Feed conversions were significantly lower in T2 than in T1 from 20 to 30 months of age(p<0.05). Blood albumin concentrations were significantly higher in T2 than in T1 at 12, 14, 16 and 18 months of age. Blood triglyceride concentrations were significantly higher in T1 than in T2 at 14 and 16 months of age(p<0.05). Blood inorganic phosphorus concentrations were significantly higher in T2 compared with T1 at 8, 10, 16 and 22 months of age(p<0.05). Mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular hemoglobin were significantly lower in T2 than in T1 from 8 to 12 months of age(p<0.05), but those were significantly higher in T2 than T1 from 10 months to 12 months of age(p<0.05). Present results may indicate that the restricted feeding for the growing period does not show adverse effects on body weight gain with better feed conversion for the following late fattening period.

  • The possibility of using cotton stems as a roughage source in animal feeding was explored. Ground cotton stems (T2 and T3) or stems treated with 0.5% urea (T4 and T5) were ensiled with pearl millet green fodder in double lined plastic bags of 3 kg capacity for 50 days. Formic acid (0.4% v/v) was sprayed on T3 and T5 silages. The treatments were compared with pearl millet silage alone (T1) which constituted the control. All the bags were placed in the silo pit of pearl millet silage. Results indicated that urea treatment of cotton stems increased and formic acid application reduced dry matter loss of the silages. Inclusion of cotton stems in the silage significantly (p<0.05) increased CF, ADF, cellulose and ADL due to its higher cell wall content. The hemicellulose was significantly lower in T3 (16.7%) and T5 (22.52%) as compared to T2 (23.45%) and T4 (24.6%) due to formic acid application. Ammoniation significantly increased NH3-N content in T4 (0.202%) and formic acid controlled NH3-N level in T5 (0.107%).The in sacco dry matter digestibility was significantly higher (p<0.05) in formic acid preserved silages T3 and T5 (47.73 and 47.93%) as compared to silages without formic acid (44.94 and 41.22 %) in T2 and T4 respectively, but lower than T1 (54.39%). It is concluded that cotton stems can be ensiled with pearl millet fodder in 1:4 ratio with or without urea treatment. Formic acid application further increases the silage quality.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the awareness of patient safety and performance of patient safety activities among hospitalized patients, and to provide basic data for the development of programs to improve them. The subjects were 103 adult patients at a general hospital in D city. Data were collected from Feb. 22 to Mar. 12, 2021, using structured questionnaires to measure the awareness of patient safety and performance of patient safety activities. The mean (±standard deviation) scores of awareness of patient safety and performance of patient safety activities were 4.22±0.52 out of 5 and 3.35±0.48 out of 4, respectively. The awareness of patient safety varied significantly depending on patient safety education (t=4.85, p<.001). The performance of patient safety activities varied significantly depending on marital state (t=2.75, p=.007) and patient safety education (t=3.88, p<.001). There was a significant correlation between the awareness of patient safety and the performance of patient safety activities (r=.59, p<.001). It is thus necessary to promote the improvement of the patient safety culture by developing programs to improve awareness of patient safety and performance of patient safety activities in hospitalized patients and to apply them systematically in clinical practice.

  • College students face serious difficulties while seeking jobs, leading to a high degree of stress, which is thought to affect their attitude towards smoking. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between hardiness, job-seeking stress, and the attitude towards smoking among students, and to further identify the factors influencing smoking attitude. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to 145 students. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS program, t-test, ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Smokers constituted 22.1% of the sample. The study showed that smoking attitudes varied according to the smoking status (H=28.26, p<.001). The smoking attitude was seen to be desirable in the high group (t=-3.27, p=.001) and low job-seeking stress group (t=4.40, p<.001). There was a positive correlation between hardiness and smoking attitude (r=.18, p=.028). There was a negative correlation between job-seeking stress and smoking attitude (r=-.28, p=.001). Also, the factors affecting the smoking attitude were non-smoker respondent (β=.50, p<.001), job-seeking stress (β=-.23, p=.015), former smoker respondent (β=.22, p=.016) and the explanatory power was 24.3%. Therefore, school and health public center counseling and employment support programs need to help students manage and cope with stressful situations to change their attitude towards smoking in a desirable direction.

  • Purpose To design a scoring system to predict malignancy of additional MRI-detected lesions in breast cancer patients. Materials and Methods Eighty-six lesions (64 benign and 22 malignant) detected on preoperative MRI of 68 breast cancer patients were retrospectively included. The clinico-radiologic features were correlated with the histopathologic results using the Student's t-test, Fisher's exact test, and logistic regression analysis. The scoring system was designed based on the significant predictive features of malignancy, and its diagnostic performance was compared with that of the Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) category. Results Lesion size ≥ 8 mm (p < 0.001), location in the same quadrant as the primary cancer (p = 0.005), delayed plateau kinetics (p = 0.010), T2 isointense (p = 0.034) and hypointense (p = 0.024) signals, and irregular mass shape (p = 0.028) were associated with malignancy. In comparison with the BI-RADS category, the scoring system based on these features with suspicious non-mass internal enhancement increased the diagnostic performance (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve: 0.918 vs. 0.727) and detected three false-negative cases. With this scoring system, 22 second-look ultrasound examinations (22/66, 33.3%) could have been avoided. Conclusion The scoring system based on the lesion size, location relative to the primary cancer, delayed kinetic features, T2 signal intensity, mass shape, and non-mass internal enhancement can provide a more accurate approach to evaluate MRI-detected lesions in breast cancer patients.

  • This experiment was conducted to establish the intensive Grazing system through the improved pasture utilization of the Hanwoo beef cattle. Intensive grazing period, 2 to 3 days was compared to conventional rotation-grazing period, 5 to 6 days as control. The intensive grazing system which has 2 to 3 days of grazing period, increased forage DM yield(7.33t/ha) by 17% compared to control(6.28t/ha), and contributed to stabilization of the seasonal productivity through the increased DM yield after August. Plant height, feed intake and efficiency of grazing was increased in intensive rotation.
