  • This paper suggests a fuzzy variable structure control scheme for Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model and presents the attitude control of the wheel-driven inverted pendulum(WDIP) based on the proposed control algorithm. The proposed controller is designed based on the T-S fuzzy modeling of nonlinear system and the unification of gain matrices in linear subsystems that constitute the overall fuzzy model. The uncertainties generated in the gain matrix unifying procedure can be interpreted as the input disturbances of the conventional variable structure control. These unifying disturbances can be resolved by using the robustness property of the conventional variable structure system. Design example for wheel-driven inverted pendulum demonstrates the utility and validity of the proposed control scheme.

  • This paper proposes design of LFT-based fuzzy controllers for model-following, which are better than the previous input-output linearization controllers, which are not able to follow the model system states and which do not guarantee the stability of all states. The method proposed in this paper provides a LFT-based Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy controller with guaranteed stability and model-following via the following steps: First, using LFT(Linear Fractional Transformation) and T-S fuzzy model, controllers, are obtained. Next, error dynamics are obtained for model-following, and errors go to 0(zero). Finally, a T-s fuzzy controller that can stabilizxe the system with the requirement on the control input satisfied is obtained by solving the LMIs with the MATLAB LMI Control Toolbox and a model-following controller is obtained. Simulations are performed for the LFT-based T-S fuzzy controller designed by the proposed method, which show better performance than the results of input-out ut linearization controller.

  • This paper addresses a formation control problem for a phugoid model-based multi-agent system in discrete time by using a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model-based controller design technique. The concerned discrete-time model is obtained by Euler's method. A T-S fuzzy model is constructed through a feedback linearization. A fuzzy controller is then designed to stabilize the T-S fuzzy model. Design condition is presented in the linear matrix inequality format.

  • This paper presents a new linear-matrix-inequality-based intelligent digital redesign (LMI-based IDR) technique to match the states of the analog and the digital T-S fuzzy control systems at the intersampling instants as well as the sampling ones. The main features of the proposed technique are: 1) the fuzzy-model-based periodic control is employed, and the control input is changed n times during one sampling period; 2) The proposed IDR technique is based on the approximately discretized version of the T-S fuzzy system, but its discretization error vanishes as n approaches the infinity. 3) some sufficient conditions involved in the state matching and the stability of the closed-loop discrete-time system can be formulated in the LMIs format.

  • In this paper, The Fuzzy Logic Controller based on T-operators is designed. Some typical T-operators and their mathematical properties are studied. A generalized fuzzy inference model is proposed by introducing the general notion of T-operators into the conventional one which is based only on the Min and Max operators. Fuzzy Logic Control algorithms based on the T-operators are suggested. Then, by computer simulations, the effect of various T-operators on the performance of the fuzzy logic controller are studied. The purpose of these simulation studies were to observe the flexibility and system responses using the processed class of T-operators in the fuzzy inference mechanisms. This observation was made on parameters such as speed of reponses, steady-state behavior and non oscillatory responses.

  • A design method of a T-S fuzzy model based reduced order nonlinear unknown input observer(NUIO) is presented. The fuzzy NUIO is designed based on the parallel distributed compensation(PDC) concept. It consists of a number of the linear UIOs, each of which is designed for each local linear model in the T-S fuzzy model of a class of nonlinear systems. The fuzzy NUIO provides not only the state estimates insensitive to the unknown inputs, for example, disturbances and faults etc., but also the estimates of the unknown inputs. Therefore, It can be employed in the state feedback control and disturbance rejection control of a class of nonlinear systems with unknown disturbances. It also applied to the robust residual generation for the fault detection and isolation systems and to the design of fault tolerant control systems. As an example, the NUIO is applied to an inverted pendulum system to show the state and disturbance estimation performance and to illustrate the fuzzy reduced order NUIO design method.

  • In this paper, we propose a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy-model-based design for the tracking control of a class of nonlinear underwater glider. By using the partial linearization and the sector nonlinearity, the underwater glider with six degrees of freedom (6 DOF) is modelled by the T-S fuzzy model. The concerned tracking control problem with $H_{\infty}$ performance is converted into the stabilization one for the error dynamics between the given nonlinear underwater glider and the reference time-varying input. Sufficient conditions are derived for the asymptotic stabilizability of the error dynamics in the format of matrix inequality. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design methodology.

  • This paper presents the stability analysis and design for a sampled-data fuzzy control system with neutral type of time delay, which is formed by a nonlinear plant and a sampled-data fuzzy controller connected in a closed loop. The sampling activity and neutral type of time delay will complicate the system dynamics and make the stability analysis much more difficult than that for a pure continuous-time fuzzy control system. Based on the fuzzy-model-based control approach, LMI(linear matrix inequality)-based stability conditions are derived to guarantee the nonlinear networked system stability. An application example will be given to show the merits and design a procedure of the proposed approach.

  • This paper presents the neuro-fuzzy control method for balancing a two-wheel mobile robot. A two-wheel mobile robot is built for the experimental studies. On-line learning algorithm based on the back-propagation(BP) method is derived for the Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) neuro-fuzzy controller. The modified error is proposed to learn the B-P algorithm for the balancing control of a two-wheel mobile robot. The T-S controller is implemented on a DSP chip. Experimental studies of the balancing control performance are conducted. Balancing control performances with disturbance are also conducted and results are evaluated.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy H$\infty$ filtering problem for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems with time-varying delayed states and unknown inital state on the basis of Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy model. The nonlinear systems are represented by T-S fuzzy models, and the fuzzy control systems utilize the concept of the so-called parallel distributed compensation. Using a single quadraic Lyapunov function, the stability and L2 gain performance from the noise signals to the estimation error are discussed. Sufficient conditions for the existence of fuzzy H$\infty$ filters are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The filtering gains can also be directly obtained from the solutions of LMIs.
