  • The stability of a multi-terminal direct current (MTDC) system is often influenced by its control strategy. To improve the stability of the MTDC system, the control strategy of the MTDC system must be appropriately adopted. This paper deals with estimating stability of a MTDC system based on the line-commutated converter based high voltage direct current (LCC HVDC) system with an inverter with constant extinction angle (CEA) control or a rectifier with constant ignition angle (CIA) control. In order to evaluate effects of two control strategies on stability, a MTDC system is tested on two conditions: initialization and changing DC power transfer. In order to compare the stability effects of the MTDC system according to each control strategy, a mathematical MTDC model is analyzed in frequency domain and time domain. In addition, Bode stability criterion and transient response are carried out to estimate its stability.

  • To design a control system, it is a elementary point that the stability of the system should be guaranteed. Also, the phase of the system plays an important role for its frequence performance. In this paper, we present two stability criterion of repetitive control system with phase-lead and lag compensator. First, the stability criterion for the servo control system with phase-lead and lag compensator is shown by using small-gain theorem. Second, for the repetitive control system with the compensator, the stability criterion, also, is determined by using small-gain theorem. Two stability criterions show the same results that the stability depends on a coefficient of the phase-lead and lag compensator under some condition in servo control system and repetitive control system.

  • Power system stability is correlated with system structure, disturbances and operating conditions, and power flows on transmission lines are closely related with those conditions. This paper proposes a methodology to identify correlative power flows for power system transient and small-signal stability prediction. In transient stability sense, the Critical Clearing Time is used to select some dominant contingencies, and Transient Stability Prediction index is proposed for the quantitative comparison. For small-signal stability, this paper discusses a methodology to identify crucial transmission lines for stability Prediction by introducing a sensitivity factor based on eigenvalue sensitivity technique. On-line monitoring of the selected lines enables to predict system stability in real-time. Also, a Procedure to make a priority list of monitored transmission lines is proposed. The procedure is applied to a test system and the KEPCO systems in the year of 2003 and it shows capabilities of the proposed method

  • The purpose of this paper is to assess experimentally system stability of the 154 ㎸ transmission system due to the current of the forthcoming AC High-Speed Railway (HSR) era. It introduces a simple method to evaluate the system stability The proposed method also shows the relationship between stability and power losses, and the stability indices made by the numerical process proposed in this paper will be used to assess whether a system can be stabilized or not. This paper also presents the improvement of the stability via loss reduction using STATCOM. Reactive power compensation is often the most effective way to improve both power transfer capability and system stability. The suitable modeling of the electric railway system should be applicable to the PSS/E. In the case study the proposed method is tested on a practical system of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) which will be expected to accommodate the heavy HSR load. Furthermore, it prove that the compensation of voltage drop and its by-product, loss reduction is closely related to improvement of system stability.

  • Repetitive control is a proposed control strategy in view of the internal model principle and achieves a high accuracy asymptotic tracking property by implementing a model that generates the periodic signals of period into the closed-loop system. Since the repetitive control system contains a periodic signal generator with positive feedback loop, which reduces the stability margin, in the overall closed-loop system, the stability of the closed-loop system should be considered as an important problem. In case that a real system has plant uncertainties which are not represented through modeling, the robust stability problem of the repetitive control system has not been considered sufficiently. In this paper, we propose the robust stability condition for the system with modeling uncertainty. The proposed robust stability condition will be obtained using the robust performance condition in the H$_{\infty}$ control. Moreover, by use of the proposed robust stability condition, we propose a procedure that designs a repetitive controller and a feedback controller simultaneously which can stabilize the overall closed-loop system robustly and which can also do the closedloop system without repetitive controller..

  • The major concern of networked control system is network uncertainties such as time delay and data loss. Because these uncertainties may degrade the performance of networked control system and destabilize the entire system. Therefore, the performance and the stability variation of networked control system due to network uncertainties must be considered first in designing networked control system. In particular, the stability analysis of networked control system is most important issue since time delay and data loss can make the overall systems unstable. In this paper, we present a new stability analysis method of networked control system with time delay and data loss, which is impossible in previous works. The proposed method can determine maximum time delay and allowable transmission rate that preserve stability performance of networked control system. The results of the simulation validate effectiveness of our stability analysis method.

  • This paper presents a relaxed stability condition for continuous-time affine fuzzy system using fuzzy Lyapunov function. In the previous studies, stability conditions for the affine fuzzy system based on quadratic Lyapunov function have a conservativeness. The stability condition is considered by using the fuzzy Lyapunov function, which has membership functions in the traditional Lyapunov function. Based on Lyapunov-stability theory, the stability condition for affine fuzzy system is derived and represented to linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). And slack matrix is added to stability condition for the relaxed stability condition. Finally, simulation example is given to illustrate the merits of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes an alternative method to evaluate the effect of wind power to the power system stability with small disturbance. Alternatively, available techniques for stability analysis of a power system based on deterministic methods are less accurate for high penetration of wind power. Numerical simulations of random behaviors are computationally expensive. A stochastic stability index (SSI) is proposed for the power system stability evaluation based on the theory of stochastic stability and energy function, specifically the stochastic derivative of the relative well-defined energy function and the critical energy. The SSI is implemented on the modified nine-bus system including wind turbines under different conditions. A doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbine is characterized and modeled using measured wind data from several sites in Thailand. Each of the obtained wind power data is analyzed. The wind power effect is modeled considering the aggregated effect of wind turbines. With the proposed method, the system behavior is properly predicted and the stability is quantitatively evaluated with less computational effort compared with conventional numerical simulation methods.

  • In this paper, we have simulated the transient stability of power system with dynamic loads. Dynamic load characteristics have an important influence on power system stability. In study of power system stability, motors form a major portion of the system loads. Induction motors and synchronous motors in particular form the workhorse of the electric power industry. Therefore modelling of motors is important in system stability. We investigate the effect of motors loads of Kwang Yang network with three phase fault.
