  • A C-to-SystemC synthesizer which processes the input behavior according to high-level synthesis, and then transforms the synthesis result into SystemC module code is implemented in this paper. In the synthesis process, the input behavioral description in C source code is scheduled using list scheduling algorithm and register allocation is performed using left-edge algorithm on the result of scheduling. In the SystemC process, the output from high-level synthesis process is transformed into SystemC module code by combining it with SystemC features such as channels and ports. The operation of the implemented C-to-SystemC synthesizer is validated through simulating the synthesis of elliptic wave filter in SystemC code. C-to-SystemC synthesizer can be used as a part of tool-chain which helps to implement SystemC design methodology covering from modeling to synthesis.

  • We describe the precision synthesis schemes of siloxane-containing polymers, i.e., the control of their molecular weight, stereoregularity, and higher-order structures. First, we found a new catalytic dehydrocoupling reaction of water with bis(dimethylsilyl)benzene to give poly(phenylene-disiloxane). Together with this reaction, we applied hetero-condensations to the synthesis of thermally stable poly(arylene-siloxane)s. The dehydrocoupling reaction was applied to the synthesis of syndiotactic poly(methylphenylsiloxane) and poly(silsesquioxane)s, which we also prepared by hydrolysis and deaminative condensation reactions. We discuss the tendency for loop formation to occur in the synthesis of poly(silsesquioxane) by hydrolysis, and provide comments on the design of functionality of the polymers produced. By taking advantage of the low energy barrier to rotation in the silicon-oxygen bond, we designed selective oxygen-permeable membrane materials and liquid crystalline materials. The low surface free energy of siloxane-containing systems allows surface modification of a blend film and the design of holographic grating materials.

  • In the synthesis of the current source distribution function of an array antenna with the arbitrary radiation pattern, the Woodward-Lawson sampling method has been mainly used for the synthesis of an even function lobe pattern. In this paper, the method is extended to the synthesis of the odd function pattern and then the optimum synthesis method for the nonlinear source distribution function is proposed. The proposed method is applied to the design of nonuniform transmission lines with arbitrary reflection responses. The both dispersive impedance profiles of single and coupled nonuniform lines with arbitrary reflection responses are directly synthesized by the sampled values of a reflected spectral pattern which is optimally shaped by a perturbation of its complex null positions, hence removing the conventional step-by-step segmentation process and global optimization routines. The control problem in the case that all of port impedances are identical is also solved. The generality of the proposed method is verified by a filter design with the controlled arbitrary passband

  • In this paper we proposed a practical low-power design technique using clock-gating in RTL. An efficient low-power methodology is that a high-level designer analyzes a generic system and designs a controller for clock-gating. Also the desirable flow is to derive clock-gating in normal synthesis process by synthesis tool than to insert directly gate to clock line. If low-power is considered in coding process, clock is gated in coding process. If not considered, after analyzing entire operation. clock is Bated in periods of holding data. After analyzing operation for clock-gating, a controller was designed for it, and then a low-power circuit was generated by synthesis tool. From result, we identified that the consumed power of register decreased from 922mW to 543mW, that is the decrease rate is 42%. In case of synthesizing the test circuit using synthesizer of Power Theater, it decreased from 322mW to 208mW (36.5% decrease).

  • An efficient design method for E-plane waveguide bandpass filter has been developed. The analysis method for E-plane discontinuities with finite length is based on Generalized Scattering Matrix (GSM) method. Furthermore, the design portion is based on the filter synthesis method. Waveguide bandpass filters designed with this method have been fabricated and measured. Excellent agreements with design have been obtained

  • The design and manufacture of injection molded polymeic parts with desired mechanical properties is a costly process dominated by empiricism, including the modification of actual tooling. This paper presents an interactive computer-based design system for injection molded plastic parts. This knowledge-based synthesis system provides a rational design strategy for injection molding and molded parts. It synergistically combines a rule-based expert system for hurestic knowledge with analytical process simulation programs. The theremomechanical properties of a molded part such as the effect of molecular orientation and weldline strength are predicted by the analysis programs; while the expert system interprets the analytical results from the process simulation, evaluates the design, and generates recommendations for optimal design alternatives. The heuristic knowledge of injection molding is formalized as production rules of the expert consultation system.

  • This paper introduces a systematic top-down and bottom-up design methodology to assist the designer in the implementation of continuous-time (CT) cascade sigma-delta (${\Sigma}{\Delta}$) modulators. The salient features of this methodology are (a) flexible behavioral modeling for optimum accuracy-efficiency trade-offs at different stages of the top-down synthesis process, (b) direct synthesis in the continuous-time domain for minimum circuit complexity and sensitivity, (c) mixed knowledge-based and optimization-based architectural exploration and specification transmission for enhanced circuit performance, and (d) use of Pareto-optimal fronts of building blocks to reduce re-design iterations. The applicability of this methodology will be illustrated via the design of a 12-bit 20 MHz CT ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ modulator in a 1.2 V 130 nm CMOS technology.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of a system for automatic data path synthesis in digital system. There are four subtasks to synthesize a digital system: scheduling, register allocation, functional unit allocation and bus allocation. In this paper, force directed algorithm is used for the scheduling while new algorithms are proposed for the allocation subtasks. Synthesis results of two experimental data paths including MC6502 have shown that our proposed algorithm out goes most of previous works.

  • Pentiptycenediacetylene is very useful precursor materials for the synthesis of conducting polymer materials. The incorporation of rigid three-dimensional pentiptycene moieties into conjugated polymer backbones would offer several design advantages. They prevent ${\pi}$-stacking of the polymer backbones and thereby maintain high fluorescence quantum yields and spectroscopic stability in thin films. The pentiptycenediactylene was synthesized and characterized by 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy.

  • Through high level synthesis, designers can obtain the precious information on the area and speed trade-offs as well as synthesized datapaths from behavioral design descriptions. While previous researches were concentrated on the synthesis of pipelined, datapaths with fixed DII (Data Initiation Interval) by inserting delay elements where needed, we propose a novel methodology of synthesizing pipeline structures with variable DIIs. Determining the time-overlapping of pipeline stages with variable DIIs, the proosed algorithm performs scheduling and module allocation using the time-overlapping information. Experimental results show that significant improvement can be achieved both in speed and in area.
