  • An efficient inductive switching noise suppression technique for mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs) using standard CMOS digital technology is proposed. The proposed design technique uses a parallel RC circuit, which provides a damping path for the switching noise. The proposed design technique is used for designing a mixed-signal circuit composed of a ring oscillator, a digital output buffer, and an analog noise sensor node for $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS digital IC technology. Simulation results show a 47% reduction in the on-chip inductive switching noise coupling from the noisy digital to the analog blocks in the same substrate without an additional propagation delay. The increased power consumption due to the damping resistor is only 67% of that of the conventional source damping technique. This design can be widely used for any kind of analog and high frequency digital mixed-signal circuits in CMOS technology

  • The radio communications by SSB and VHF transceivers are still used very efficiently in coast stations and military base stations. The communication system by the conventional SSB and VHF transceivers between a coast station and a terminal is an one-to-one system. In this dissertation, however, the conventional one-to-one system is expanded to one-to-multiple systems. Then, frequencies can be used effectively for distress, urgency, safety traffic, and military communications. An ICS has been proposed and added, in this dissertation, to the conventional SSB and VHF communication systems, which can realize one-to- several terminal communications. The line switching system by the ICS is to be remote-controlled by ASK modulated PTT signals and audio signals. An ICS can change a connection between terminal and transceiver through a circuit switching system at any time. For this purpose, the author has researched and developed a ASK transmission system, ICS system, control algorithm, multiprocessor system, and moni-toring system. As a conclusion, the developed line switching control systems and equipments can be used effectively for maritime communication, military communication, fishery communication, etc.

  • In variable structure control algorithm, sliding mode makes the closed loop system insensitive to modelling uncertainties and external disturbances. However due to imperfections in switching, the system trajectory chatters, which is very undesirable. And the insensitivity property of a sliding mode controller is present only when the system is in the sliding mode. To overcome these shortcomings, in this paper, new sliding mode control algorithm using time-varying sliding surface and fuzzy PI structrue is proposed.

  • This work presents a method to predict the near magnetic field distribution on the digital switching circuit mounted on PCB using co-simulation of circuit and electromagnetic fields. The proposed method first obtains the normalized near field distribution by exciting the signal and power ports of the switching circuit using sinusoidal sources. Then the real near magnetic field distribution is determined by weighting the normalized field distribution using the current spectrum of the switching circuit. To confirm the proposed method, a switching IC with a ring oscillator and a output buffer is fabricated and measured in the form of chip-on-board. The surface magnetic field distribution is measured using a magnetic probe above the PCB and compared with the simulation results. Experimental results show the correspondence between simulation and measurement results within 10 dB up to fifth harmonics.

  • The radio communications by SSB and VHF transceivers are still used very efficiently in coast stations. The SSB and VHF equipments are very important to transmit and receive informations in the sea and the land. The communication system by the conventional SSB and VHF transceivers between a coast station and a terminal is an one-to-one system. In this dissertation, however, the conventional one-to-one system is expanded to one-to-multiple systems. Then, frequencies can be used effectively for distress, urgency, safety traffic. In addition, one to multi-number systems can be used to interrupt. When the ICS equipments are set up to the VHF transceiver. It is possible to communicate with ship in far distance the communication range can be enlarged. The line switching system by the ICS is to be remote-controlled by ASK modulated PTT signals and audio signals. An ICS can change a connection between terminal and transceiver through a circuit switching system at any time. For this purpose, the author has researched and developed a ASK transmission system, ICS system, control algorithm, multiprocessor system, and monitoring system. • The conventional way to implement a bidirectional converter with boost/buck has been to use two general purpose PWM ICs with a single supply voltage. In this case, when one direction mode is in operation, the other is disabled and the output of the error amplifier of the disabled IC may be saturated to a maximum value or zero. Therefore, during mode transition, a circuit which can disable the switching operation for a certain time interval is required making it impossible to get a seamless transition. In this paper, the limitations of the conventional 42V/14V bi-directional DC/DC converter implemented with general current mode PWM ICs with a single supply voltage are reviewed and a new current mode PWM controller circuit with a dual voltage system is proposed. The validity of the proposed circuit is investigated through simulation. and experiments.

  • The amplification rate of a RF repeater is limited by the feedbacked signals from the same repeater. And an ICS (Interference Cancellation System) repeater has been developed to remove the feedbacked signals. The ICS repeater estimates the amplitudes and the phases of the feedbacked signals and removes the estimated feedback signals from the received input signal of the repeater. However, it requires lots of hardware complexity and this leads to the increase the cost of the repeater. Moreover, the ICS repeater can not solve the pilot pollution problems. To solve these problems, we have studied the implementation and adaptation of smart antenna system for RF repeaters. We have designed a smart antenna system with a switching beam structure in order to reduce the hardware and computational complexity. After analyzing the proposed smart antenna system, we found out that the amplification rate of the proposed repeater increases 23dB compare to the amplification rate of ICS repeater and the output SINR increases 6dB compare to the ICS repeater.

  • Power semiconductor devices had been producted with bipolar only processes, but Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS(BCD) processes have been adapted recently to fabricate these devices since most foundry companies have provided BCD processes instead of Bipolar only processes. In this study, Regulator and OP Amp are used as most popular design IPs and BCD processes for the designing are converted from bipolar only processes. Power Switching Sensor(PSS) ICs are designed specifically and fabricated on a silicon chip. The operation results of the packaged chip show the good matching with test results of the simulation.

  • PSPICE modeling of a commercial LED driver IC (TOP245P) and PC817A optocoupler is proposed for the switch-mode power supply (SMPS) (applicable to LED driver) design and simulation. An analog behavioral model of the TOP245P IC including the shunt regulator, under-voltage(UV) detection, over-voltage(OV) shut-down and SR flip-flop is developed by using PSPICE. The empirical equation of PC817A current transfer ratio (CTR) is fitted from the datasheet of PC817A. Two types of SMPSs are simulated with the averaged-model and switching-model. The simulation results by the proposed PSPICE models are in good agreement with those in the data sheet and an experimental data.

  • Multi-Channel Switch ICs for IoT have integrated several solid state structure low ON-resistance bi-directional relay MOS switches with level shifter to drive high voltage and they should be independently controlled by external serialized logic control. These devices are designed for using in applications requiring high-voltage switching control by low-voltage control signals, such as medical ultra-sound imaging, ink-jet printer control, bare board open/short and leakage test system using Kelvin 4-terminal measurement method. This paper describes implementation of analog switch control block and its verification using Field programmable Gate Array (FPGA) test pattern generation. Each block has been implemented using Verilog hardware description language then simulated by Modelsim and prototyped in a FPGA board. Compare to conventional IC, The proposed architecture can be applied to fields where multiple entities need to be controlled simultaneously in the IoT environment and the proposed pattern generation method can be applied to test similar types of ICs.
