  • A generalized constant ratio surface (GCR surface) is defined by the property that the tangential component of the position vector is a principal direction at each point on the surface, see [8] for details. In this paper, by solving some differential equations, a complete classification of Lorentz GCR surfaces in the three-dimensional Minkowski space is presented. Moreover, it turns out that a flat Lorentz GCR surface is an open part of a cylinder, apart from a plane and a CMC Lorentz GCR surface is a surface of revolution.

  • In the process of draw die design for stamping automotive press panels, the addendum surfaces generated in metal forming simulation software cannot be used in downstream processes such as machining and making draw dies because simulation tools use simple discrete models for the surface geometry. The downstream processes require more precise and continuous geometric models such as NURBS surfaces. Generally, automotive die engineers manually regenerate the addendum surface geometry using the discrete model. This paper presents an automated geometric modeling process for generating addendum surfaces using draft surface models. The design parameters of the section curve for the addendum surfaces are extracted automatically from the draft geometry. Using the extracted design parameters, smooth addendum surfaces are generated automatically as NURBS surfaces. The generated surfaces are $G^1$ continuous with the part surface and the binder surface, and can be used in downstream processes.

  • The high pretilt angles in nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) have been generated on robbed polythiophene (PTP) surfaces with alkyl chain lengths. The pretilt angle of the NLC was observed on unidirectionally rubbed PTP surfaces with alkyl chains with more than 9 carbon atoms. We obtained the Pretilt angle of 15~40$^{\circ}$ on rubbed PTP surfaces with 10 carbon atoms in the a1ky1 chain. Also, the pretilt angles of 65~80$^{\circ}$ of NLC were obtained on rubbed PTP surfaces with 11 and 12 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain. We suggest that this high pretilt angle generation in NLC is due to the surface-excluded volume effect by the alkyl chain lengths between. the LCs and the PTP surfaces. Finally, we conclude the odd-even effect on rubbed PTP surfaces is clearly contributed to the pretilt angle generation.

  • Ruled surfaces are useful concept for surface design because they are defined by the one-parameter family of lines. In this paper, we prove that the offsets of a developable surface (a special class of ruled surfaces) are developable surfaces. Moreover, we prove that the offsets of a non-developable ruled surface cannot be ruled surfaces.

  • We modified polymer surfaces, polyethylene, polystyrene and polyester, to improve cellcompatibility. For surface modification of the polymers, we used various surface treatment methods; physicochemical oxidation methods such as plasma discharge, corona discharge, sulfuric acid and chloric acid treatments, and biological methods such as adsorption of plasma protein and fibronectin onto the polymer surfaces. The treated polymer surfaces were characterized by electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis ( ESCA ). The physicochemically treated polymers showed different surface chemical structures depending on the treated methods. The sulfuric acid-treated surfaces showed greater carboxyl groups than those of plasma- or corona- treated surfaces, while the chloric acid-treated one showed high density of hydroxyl group on the surface. By the biological treatments, the surfaces were uniformly coated with proteins. The fibronectin adsorbed on the surface seems to have unique properties for cell binding.

  • In this paper, electrical discharge machined (EDM) surfaces machined with various machining parameters are characterized and simulated. Three-dimensional surface topography of EDM surfaces are measured by a stylus instrument. Surface topography is characterized with auto-correlation coefficient and height probability density functions. Then, EDM surfaces are modeled and computer-simulated by using the non-causal 2-D auto-regressive model. Simulation results show that EDM surfaces are characterized well by a few parameters.

  • We study helicoidal surfaces with the non-degenerate third fundamental form in Minkowski 3-space. In particular, we mainly focus on the study of helicoidal surfaces with light-like axis in Minkowski 3-space. As a result, we classify helicoidal surfaces satisfying an equation in terms of the position vector field and the Laplace operator with respect to the third fundamental form on the surface.

  • We construct three kinds of complete embedded singly-periodic minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{H}^2{\times}\mathbb{R}$. The first one is a 1-parameter family of minimal surfaces which is asymptotic to a horizontal plane and a vertical plane; the second one is a 2-parameter family of minimal surfaces which has a fundamental piece of finite total curvature and is asymptotic to a finite number of vertical planes; the last one is a 2-parameter family of minimal surfaces which fill $\mathbb{H}^2{\times}\mathbb{R}$ by finite Scherk's towers.

  • We study the Gauss map G of helicoidal surfaces in the 3-dimensional Euclidean space ${\mathbb{E}}^3$ with respect to the so called Cheng-Yau operator ${\square}$ acting on the functions defined on the surfaces. As a result, we completely classify the helicoidal surfaces with Gauss map G satisfying ${\square}G=AG$ for some $3{\times}3$ matrix A.
