  • The numerical procedure to analyze a non-steady 3-dimensional elastohydrodynamic lubrication on the cyclically loaded contact has been newly developed. The procedure was applied on the cam-roller contact of the valve mechanism for the marine diesel engine. Both the pressure distribution and the film thickness between the cam and roller follower were calculated for each time step of the whole cycle. The pressure spike is shown at the outlet of the roller edge and it is getting higher as the external load is increased. The film thicknesses in the result of the non-steady analysis have a tendency to increase compared to those in the result of the analysis with the assumption of steady state. Therefore, the surface roughness of the non-steady contact need not be limited below that of the steady contact of the equivalent operating conditions.

  • Roller compacted concrete(RCC) has been attracted due to its growing application to pavement concrete construction. In this study optimum mixing formation of RCC was explored and characterized its properties forcusing on reducing try and error for actual application to construction of pavement. The concrete used for roller compacted concrete pavement (RCCP) has very low water content per unit volume, so that it develops early high strength. This high early strength development makes pavement constructed open early. This concrete also showed very reduced crack formed on the surface because of expensive cement.

  • In This study develops a quasi-three dimensional numerical model of wave driven coastal currents with accounting the effects of the wave-current interaction and the surface rollers. In the wave model, the current effects on wave breaking and energy dissipation are taken into account as well as the wave diffraction effect. The surface roller associated with wave breaking was modeled based on a modification of the equations by Dally and Brown (1995) and Larson and Kraus (2002). Furthermore, the quasi-three dimensional model, which based on Navier-Stokes equations, was modified in association with the surface roller effect, and solved using frictional step method. The model was validated by data sets obtained during experiments on the Large Scale Sediment Transport Facility (LSTF) basin and the Hazaki Oceanographical Research Station (HORS). Then, a model test against detached breakwater was carried out to investigate the performance of the model around coastal structures. Finally, the model was applied to Akasaki port to verify the hydrodynamics around coastal structures. Good agreements between computations and measurements were obtained with regard to the cross-shore variation in waves and currents in nearshore and surf zone.

  • The flash temperature distribution on the contact surfaces between cam and roller-follower mechanism was analysed numerically. The elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication pressure and film thickness were used to get the accurate analysis results. The temperature distribution was obtained by numerical integration by making use of Carslaw and Jaeger's formulation to the whole contact surfaces. The maximum flash temperature was increased with both the increasing slip ratio of the contact surface and increasing external load Profile of the temperature distribution was affected by the sliding velocity of the surface.

  • This study surveys the fiber behavior in yarn formation and the Physical properties of Solo-spun yarn. The specimens were made by six types of Solo-spun rollers with fixed twist multiplier In the previous part, the physical properties such as yarn count, evenness, strength, and breaking elongation of these yarns were compared with the properties of ring spun yarns and analysed with the mechanism of Solo-spun yarn formation. In the second part of this report, the abrasion resistance and hairiness were discussed with respect to the micro yarn structures. The narrower the groove width of Solo-spun roller is, the more active the bulk fiber migration is. The Solo-spun yarn structure has two groups. One is shorter than the other one in longitudinal direction of yarn and has the same structure as ring-spun yarn, which is derived from the smooth zone on the surface of Solo-spun roller. The other one is longer than the former and there are the wrapping fibers. This part is derived from the conflicted grooves on the surface of Solo-spun roller.

  • For cam and roller-follower contacting surfaces, the effect of tangential loading on the subsurface stress field at an elaso-hydrodynamic lubrication condition has been studied numerically. As tangential load increases, the subsurface stress field extended more widely to the direction of the tangential load. The positions of the maximum shear stress and the maximum effective stress are getting closer to the surface with the increasing tangential load. The tangential load at the elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication condition is of little consequence to the subsurface stress field.

  • An internal type roller ring gear(RRG) system composed of either a pin or a roller ring gear and its conjugated cam pinion can improve the gear endurance from that of a conventional gear system by reducing the sliding contact, while increasing the rolling motion. In this paper, we first proposed the exact cam gear profile and the self-intersection conditions obtained when the profile shift coefficient is introduced. Then, we investigated contact stresses and surface pitting life to fmd characteristics for surface fatigue by varying the shape design parameters. The results show that the pitting life can be extended significantly by increasing the profile shift coefficient.
