Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with subjective memory impairment in patients with diabetes mellitus in a metropolitan city. Methods: The subjects of this study were 351 patients with diabetes mellitus aged 50 and over from five districts of Gwangju who participated in the 2018 Community Health Survey. We analyzed general characteristics, health-related behaviors and health related conditions and subjective experience of memory impairment. To find factors associated with subjective memory impairment, the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis were used. Results: Of all subjects, 31.3% was reported subjective experience of memory impairment. The odds ratios (ORs; 95% confidence interval (CI)) for subjective memory impairment according to age were statistically significant at 1.9 (0.9-4.3) in patients in 60s and 2.2 (1.1-4.7) in patients in beyond 70s compared to those in 50s. The OR (95% CI) of ex-smoker compared to the non-smoker was 0.3 (0.8-0.9). The OR (95% CI) of depressive symptom compared to no depressive symptoms was 4.9 (95% CI: 1.8-13.7). Conclusion: In this study, subjective memory impairment in patients with diabets mellitus was associated with age, smoking, and depressive symptoms. Based on the results of this study, subjective memory impairment should be detected early through periodic cognitive function evaluation for elderly patients with diabetes mellitus, and a program for healthy cognitive function should be included in diabetes management program.

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the subjective consciousness and life satisfaction of the elderly, and to see how depression affects this relationship. This includes a new way of thinking about the causes of the elderly's life satisfaction, not only for individual factors, but also for subjective class consciousness. For this aim, we examine the degree of subjective class consciousness, life satisfaction and depression of the elderly, and verify mediation effects of depression between subjective class consciousness and life satisfaction. This study utilized data obtained from the 5th version of the Korea Longitudinal Study on Aging 2014, and considered data from 4,222 elderly aged 65 and over. As a means of study, a structural equation model analysis was conducted. The results were as follows: First, it was confirmed that the subjective class consciousness of the elderly may influence life satisfaction. It was also confirmed that the subjective class consciousness of the elderly also affected depression and life satisfaction among the elderly. When subjective class consciousness was high, depression was low and life satisfaction was high. When depression was low, life satisfaction was high. Second, depression had the mediation effect in which subjective class consciousness affects life satisfaction. Based on these results, this author suggests practical and political issues concerning social welfare to prevent and reduce depression and increase life satisfaction through improving the subjective class consciousness of the elderly. First, policy measures should enhance social capital through housing support policies and leisure use support to enhance the subjective class consciousness of the elderly. Second, the provision of services for the elderly through the establishment of a community-based network to reduce depression should be promoted.
Objective: This study aims to compare the usefulness of subjective measures which are comprised of existing methods like NASA-TLX, Bedford-scale and ZEIS and newly developed method like DALI in measuring drivers' mental workload in terms of validity, sensitivity and diagnosticity. Background: Nowadays, with the development of intelligent vehicle and HMI, mental workload of driver has become more and more important. For this reason, the studies on drivers' mental workload about driving situation and the use of information technology equipment such as mobile phones and navigations were conducted intensively. However, the studies on measuring drivers' mental workload were rarely conducted. Moreover, most of studies on comparison of subjective measures were used with performance based measure. However, performance based measures can cause distraction effect with subjective measures. Method: Participants (N=19) were engaged in a driving simulation experiment in 2 driving contexts (downtown driving and highway driving context). The experiment has 2 sessions according to driving contexts. The level of difficulties by driving contexts were adjusted according to existence of intersections, traffic signs and signals, billboards and the number of doublings. Moreover, as criteria of concurrent validity and sensitivity, the EEG data were recorded before and during the sessions. Results: The results indicated that all subjective methods were correlates with EEG in high-way driving. On the contrary to this, in downtown driving, all subjective methods were not correlates with EEG. In terms of sensitivity, multi-dimensional scales (NASA-TLX, DALI) were the only ones to identify differences between high way and downtown driving. Finally, in terms of diagnosticity, DALI was the most suitable method for evaluating drivers' mental workload in driving context. Conclusion: The DALI as newly developed method dedicated to evaluate driver's mental workload was superior in terms of sensitivity and diagnosticity. However, researchers should consider the characteristics of each subjective method synthetically according to research objective by selecting the method in subjective measures. Application: The results of this study could be applied to the intelligent vehicle and next generation of HMI design to decrease mental workload of driver and for the development of new subjective method in vehicle domain.
Purpose: This study investigated the trajectory of subjective health status in married postmenopausal women and aimed to identify predictive factors affecting subjective health status. Methods: Data were obtained from women who participated in wave 4 (2012) of the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women & Families Longitudinal Study and continued to the latest phase (wave 7, 2018). A latent growth model (LGM) was used to analyze data from 1,719 married postmenopausal women in the framework of the ecological system theory. Results: The mean age of the participants at wave 4 was 56.39±4.71 years, and the average subjective health status was around the midpoint (3.19±0.84). LGM analysis confirmed that subjective health status decreased over time (initial B=3.21, slope B=-0.03). The factors affecting initial subjective health were age, body mass index, frequency of vigorous physical activity (microsystem level), marital satisfaction (mesosystem level), and medical service utilization (macrosystem level). Medical service utilization and the frequency of vigorous physical activity were identified as predictive factors affecting the slope in subjective health status. The model fit was satisfactory (TLI=.92, CFI=.95, and RMSEA=.04). Conclusion: This analysis of the trajectory of subjective health status of married postmenopausal women over time confirmed that subjective health is influenced by overall ecological system factors, including the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem. Therefore, it is necessary to assess physical activity and support policies promoting access to medical services in order to improve the subjective health status of married postmenopausal women.
This study examined the influences of stress and academic self-efficacy on subjective well-being. The subjects were 191 4th-graders and 250 6th-graders. Data were analyzed by means of two-way ANOVA, Pearson's coefficients, and stepwise regression. Results indicated that : (1) There were age or gender differences for stress, academic self-efficacy, and subjective well-being. (2) Stress was negatively correlated with academic self-efficacy and subjective well-being, whereas academic self-efficacy was positively correlated with subjective well-being. (3) Stress and academic self-efficacy explained 43% of subjective well-being. Specifically, stress from parents was the most influential variable for positive affects, and self-regulatory efficacy was the most influential variable for positive efficacy and inter-relatedness.
This study was conducted to determine the relationship between intake of food unconformable to each Sasang constitution and the recognition of irregular symptoms of health condition. The study subjects, 362 university students nationwide, were classified according to their Sasang constitution. Regarding the correlation between intake of constitutionally unconformable food and health recognition, the Soeum type showed a positive correlation between unconformable food intake and multiple subjective symptoms. According to the detailed food type, the Soyang type showed a positive correlation between chicken intake and the symptoms of eyes and skin, and between pepper intake and multiple subjective symptoms. The Soeum type showed a negative correlation between mackerel intake and the symptoms of mouth and anus. A negative correlation was observed between mung-bean intake and multiple subjective symptoms, and this tendency persisted in the correlations between nonglutinous millet intake and multiple subjective symptoms, between wheat powder intake and multiple subjective symptoms, and not only the symptoms of the respiratory system but also eyes and skin. Positive correlations were found between banana intake and multiple subjective symptoms, and between mile intake and the symptoms of the respiratory system. However, the Taeum type didn't display any significant correlation with any food type.
