  • The address discharge time lags are investigated in each subfield time in AC plasma display panel and a modified driving waveform is proposed to reduce the address discharge time lag by applying different additional scan voltage under no misfiring discharge production. The weak plasma discharge in AC PDP is generated by applying high positive-going ramp waveform to the scan electrode during the first reset period and that induce the production of the priming particle and wall charge. Because the wall charge becomes the wall voltage in a cell, the wall plus external address voltage produce the address discharge. However, as the wall charge in a cell is gradually disappeared as time passed, the address discharge time in the subfield time for 1 TV frame is lagged. In the first subfield time, the address discharge is faster produced than the other subfield time because the wall charge are much remained by the high positive-going ramp voltage during the reset period in the first subfield time. Meanwhile, from the second to last subfield, the address discharge production time is gradually delayed due to the dissipation of the wall charge in a cell. In this study, the address discharge time lags are measured in each subfield time and the total address discharge time lags are shortened by applying the different additional scan voltage during the address period in each the subfield time.

  • This paper presents a new subfield method that can alleviate the visual artifact called the dynamic false contour (DFC), which occurs on plasma display panels. Nothing that the DFC is caused by the difference of time intervals between the adjacent subfields, we propose a constant slope code, in which the differences are maintained to be constant. Also, we propose a subfield code that can minimize the mean absolute error, considering the trade-off between the peak magnitude of the error and its duration. We will show that the proposed subfield method maintains an adequate performance in the view point of the human visual system, since the bound of the errors increases with the gray scale.

  • A new reset method for high contrast ratio and reduction of the reset time is presented. In this new reset method, except the first subfield, a new reset pulse with only ramp-up period is adopted. In this reset method, from the third subfield, the background luminance generated during the reset period is theoretically zero until the first subfield of the following frame. Employing the new reset method, the dark room contrast ratio improved to 3084.7:1 from 189.1:1 of the conventional reset method. The new reset method reduced the required time for reset per subfield to 160us except the first subfield.

  • As a driving method of AC PDP, address display separated (ADS) scheme has been widely used. In ADS method, a picture of one frame is divided into eight subfields. In this paper, the effect of sustain voltage stress have been studied with several parameters. The experimental results show that sustain pulses in the previous subfield work as the stress to address discharge in the current subfield. It is also shown that as the voltage of the sustain period in the previous subfield increases, the address time lag in the current subfield decrease slightly.

  • In this paper, The GF(216) multiplier using its subfields GF(24) is designed. This design can be used to construct a sequential logic multiplier using a bit-parallel multiplier for its subfield. A finite field serial multiplier using parallel multiplier of subfield takes a less time than serial multiplier and a smaller complexity than parallel multiplier. It has an advatageous feature. A feature between circuit complexity and delay time is compared and simulated using C language.

  • The effect of address discharge characteristics by selective reset method is investigated to prevent the weakness of address discharge in the middle of a TV-field without increase of the black luminance. To reduce black luminance in AC PDP usually, the first subfield during one TV frame adopted the conventional rising ramp-reset waveform, whereas the other subfields adopted the subsidiary reset waveform without rising ramp type. As the wall charge for the address discharge was accumulated by only the rising ramp waveform during the first reset period, the wall charge on three electrodes was disappeared as time passed and the address discharge would be weakened in the rear subfields. To prevent a reduction of the address discharge characteristics without decrease the black luminance, the modified rising ramp reset waveform was adopted only in the sixth subfield. As a result, a modified driving method could improve the address discharge characteristics compared with selective reset driving scheme with almost the same black luminance.

  • Spreading sequence play an important role in wireless communications, such as in a CDMA(code division multiple access) communication system and multi-carrier spectrum communication system. Spreading sequences with low cross-correlation, in a direct-sequence spread spectrum communication system, help to minimize multiple access interference and to increase security degree of system. Analysis of cross-correlations between the sequences is a necessary process to design sequences. However it require lots of computing time for analysis of cross-correlations between sequences. In this paper we propose a method which is possible to compute effectively cross-correlation using subfield in the process of practical computation of cross-correlation between nonlinear binary sequences.

  • Hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels have been known to participate in the regulation of neuronal excitability, synaptic transmission and long-term potentiation in the hippocampus. The present study investigated transient ischemia-induced changes of HCN1 and HCN2 expressions in the Cornu Ammonis 1 (CA1) subfield of the hippocampus in gerbils subjected to 5 min transient global cerebral ischemia (tgCI). Neuronal death was exhibited in pyramidal neurons of the striatum pyramidale in the CA1 subfield 4 days after tgCI. HCN1 and HCN2 immunoreactivities were demonstrated in intact CA1 pyramidal neurons, and were transiently and markedly increased in the CA pyramidal neurons at 6 h after ischemia. Thereafter, they gradually decreased in a time-dependent manner. A total of 4 days after ischemia, HCN1 and HCN2 immunoreactivities were barely detected in the CA1 pyramidal neurons; however, HCN1 and HCN2 were began to be expressed in pericytes and astrocytes at 4 days after ischemia. The results indicated that HCN1 and HCN2 expression levels were apparently changed in the gerbil hippocampal CA1 subfield following tgCI and suggested that ischemia-induced alterations in HCN1 and HCN2 expression levels may be closely associated with the death of CA1 pyramidal neurons following 5 min of tgCI.

  • This study analyzed authors' use of theory in 654 articles that appeared in two core library and information science journals during last three decades. In order to analyze degree of theory use of LIS, such as, publication productivity, growth and distribution of theory in subfields. name and origin of theory, usability of each theory, subfields and journals, and so on, content analysis of LIS theories was performed through conceptual and empirical study. For the purpose of this study, we suggested a couple of new analytical methods, so called, ‘Subfield Classification Scheme’ within LIS, and ‘5 Degrees of Theory Use’ model for the first time.
