Background: Overexposure to sunlight in childhood and the adolescent period and associsated sunburns significantly increase the risk of skin cancer in adulthood. In Turkey, the incidence of skin cancer in the general population is 0.8%. The incidence is 0.6% and the mortality rate is 0.4% for men, while these rates are 1.0% and 0.7%, respectively, for women. If skin cancer is found early, its treatment is facilitated. Therefore, personal skin examination is important for early diagnosis. Objectives: Our aim was to determine the effects of training for raising consciousness among adolescents to protect against skin cancer by influencing skin self examination behavior. Method: This quasi experimental intervention study was conducted between February and April 2012 in Izmir. The study population consisted of students attending $6^{th}$, $7^{th}$ and $8^{th}$ classes of a primary school (n:302). No sampling was performed. Data were collected with a form developed by the researchers based on the literature. The first part of form is aimed to determine demographic characteristics of adolescents (3 questions) and their risk status of skin cancer (6 questions). The second part was prepared for skin cancer risks of adolescents (8 questions) and indications of skin cancer (12 questions). The last part was intended to determine their knowledge about skin self examination (4 questions) and behavioral stages of skin self examination (1 question). Data collection was achieved with a questionnaire form in three phases. In the 1st phase, data about demographic characteristics of students, risk status of skin cancer, knowledge level of skin cancer and behavior stages were collected. In the $2^{nd}$ phase, skin self examination training based on the transtheoretical model was performed within the same day just after obtaining preliminary data. In the $3^{rd}$ phase, adolescents were followed up three times to establish the efficacy of the training (on the $15^{th}$ day after training program and at end of the $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ months). Follow-up data were evaluated by questioning skin self examination performing behavior stages through electronic mail. Results: Half of the adolescents (50.5%) are male, and 58.4% of them are 13 years old with a mean age of $12{\pm}1.15$ years. About 29.4% of adolescents had brown hair color, 37.9% had brown/hazel eye color, 29.4% had white skin, and 47.2% had fewer than 10 moles in their body. The pretest mean score on knowledge level about risks of skin cancer was found to be $4.19{\pm}1.96$, while the post-test mean score was $6.79{\pm}1.67$ (min:0, max:8).The pretest mean score about indications of skin cancer was $7.45{\pm}3.76$, while the post-test mean score was $10.7{\pm}2.60$ (min:0, max:12). The increases were statistically significant (p<0.05). The behavior "I do not perform skin self examination regularly in every month and I do not think to perform it in the next 6 months" was reduced from 52.8 to 35.5% after training. Conclusion: The training program organized to raise consciousness among adolescents for protection against skin cancer increased the knowledge level about risks and indications of skin cancer and it also improved the behavior of performing skin self examination.

The purpose of this study is to explore the cognitive achievement characteristics by group of achievement levels in the PISA 2018 science domain compared to the results of the PISA 2015, and to compare and analyze the 'epistemic' knowledge in the revised curriculum 2009 and in the revised curriculum 2007. The average correctness rates in PISA 2015 and PISA 2018 were analyzed by sub category of the evaluation frame in the PISA scientific domain. In the competencies domain, especially, the average correct answer rates of 'evaluating and designing scientific inquiry' were the lowest in medium and lower groups, but the rates rose in all achievement groups compared to PISA 2015, which is encouraging. Although the answer rates were low for both 'living system' knowledge and 'epistemic' knowledge in the knowledge domain, the average answer rates of the upper and middle groups increased in 'epistemic' knowledge compared to PISA 2015. The changes in the curriculum experienced by students participating in PISA were analyzed in relation to the 'evaluating and designing scientific inquiry' competency and 'epistemic' knowledge, which increased in average correct answer rates. In terms of understanding science, the "What is science?" unit that explicitly presents epistemic knowledge, and nature of model in inquiry activities, were explicitly presented in the revised curriculum 2009. In terms of understanding the process of justifying scientific knowledge, the number of inquiry activities increased, scientific explanations based on experimental results strengthened, and the "Science and Human Civilization" unit was introduced to help students to understand STS while simultaneously conducting arguments. These findings confirm the educational performance of groups by achievement level in the PISA 2018 scientific domain and suggest that the direction of education relates to epistemic knowledge in Korea's Science curriculum.
State curiosity and state anxiety in the science learning have a great influence on academic performance and achievement. Since the levels of state curiosity and anxiety can change at any moment, it is essential to identify the levels of student's state curiosity and state anxiety throughout the course of science learning. Accordingly, we assessed the changes in state curiosity and anxiety levels sensed by 5th- and 6th-grade elementary school students depending on their exposure to the violation of expectation. To this end, we classified science learning into three situations: confronting a scientific task, checking the result, and learning science concepts. As a result, there was no significant difference in state curiosity level of the nVOE group who confronting the result consistent with their expectations in checking the result after confronting a scientific task, but the state curiosity level of the VOE group who facing violation of their expectation increased. In the VOE groups, there was no significant change in the state curiosity level of the VOE-R group who correctly inferred the reason for the result, but that of the VOE-FR group who could not correctly inferred increased. The state anxiety levels of the VOE and nVOE groups decreased after checking the result of the task. The state anxiety level also declined in the VOE-R group. In contrast, there was no significant change in state anxiety level of the VOE-FR group. In learning science concepts of the result after checking the result, the state curiosity of the VOE, nVOE, and VOE-FR group all faded. No significant change was observed in the state anxiety level of the nVOE group, whereas the VOE, VOE-R, and VOE-FR group presented a decreased state anxiety. This study discusses the educational implication of these findings and its outcomes are expected to broaden the understanding of emotional states of students in science learning.

Purpose : Adolescence is a period of growth and development in body structure and physiologic, psychologic, and social functioning. Smoking and drinking in this period are very harmful and may lead to other forms of substance abuse. We surveyed the actual aspects of smoking and drinking among Korean adolescents and analyzed associated factors. Methods : A survey was performed among adolescents using a questionnaire about smoking and drinking. Data were collected from students who visited pediatric clinics for routine school examinations from July to November 2007. Results : A total of 2,546 adolescents (smoking 1,512; drinking 1,034) participated in the study. The overall smoking and drinking rates were 29.2% and 48.2%, respectively, and the mean age at the first instance of smoking and drinking was 13.8 and 14.1 years, respectively. Among drinking adolescents, 30.1% were offered a drink by their parents, although most adolescents were encouraged to smoke or drink by their friends. Dissatisfaction with family and school life, economic status, and school performance was associated with a higher smoking and drinking rate (P<0.001). Broken families were associated with a high rate of smoking, but peer satisfaction was not related to smoking or drinking. The frequency and amount of smoking and drinking in adolescents were as high as those in adults. Social sanctions seemed insufficient to keep adolescents from smoking and drinking. Conclusion : Adolescent smoking and drinking are highly influenced by family and school environments, so more active social sanctions are required, including parental involvement and legislation preventing adolescents from smoking and drinking.

The purpose of this study was to conduct a course entitled 'Teaching practice' applying Problem Based Learning(hereafter PBL) for perspective Home Economics teachers to explore the applicability of PBL to the course. A course entitled 'Teaching practice' was carried out for 17 undergraduate students from the 2nd of March till 11th of June in 2014. Pre- and post-tests to measure teacher disposition were performed to investigate the effectiveness of the course applying PBL. Three questions for PBL were developed, were determined after obtaining verification of the questions from 5 experts, and were used for the course entitled 'Teaching practice'; Developing teaching-learning plan, establishing plan for homeroom class management, and designing assessment of Technology & Home Economics. The processes of PBL include defining the problem, planning problem solutions, reassessing the problem, identifying possible solutions, and performance presentation. Procedures for solving one problem of PBL took 4 weeks and teacher disposition assessment for effectiveness of PBL was carried out for pre- and post tests. The reflection journal showed that even though it was their first experience of PBL, instructor's feedback, group activities, and individual activities were helpful for solving the problems of PBL. The result of dependent t-test for paired samples revealed significant differences between the pre- and post tests, which means that there was effectiveness of the course applying to PBL on teacher disposition of prospective Home Economics teachers.
National technical qualifications to enhance an individual's vocational skills, the competitiveness of companies and countries have an important function to improve. Especially 'qualifications' will have a signal function to show objectively measure an individual's ability with the 'Education' The "knowledge necessary for the performance of their duties. Technology will gain knowledge about such assessment or recognition is based on certain criteria and procedures." Learning to qualify are being made through a smart learning a lot. Due to the revolution of the Internet in recent years with the development of information and communication technologies are entering into a knowledge society, the importance of information and knowledge. This contemporary smart learning education system is continuing to rapidly growing in pace with the changing time and space constraints, without teaching and learning is taking place. The purpose of this study is the ARCS motivation theory can determine a representative theory of human motivation factors and basic psychological needs dealing with the human nature of the psychological needs Interactivity and immersive learning, and to validate the empirical causality Affecting the continued use of smart learning through fun. Specifically, attention, relevance, confidence in the ARCS motivation, see their effect on the learning flow through the satisfaction we analyze empirically. Through this national technical qualifications smart learner's learning by supporting the implicit synchronization of students in learning are the degree of continued use. Objectives: This study compares the differences of fit factors before and after training on the N95 mask. The results will be utilized to suggest the need of providing effective training on respirator use. Methods: A total of 49 study subjects were tested, comprised of nurses from a general hospital and undergraduate nursing students from a medical school. Anthropometric measurements of face length and face width were compared with the NIOSH(National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) panel. Fit factors(FF) were measured with TSI Portacount Pro+8038 before and after on-site training regarding the proper use of respirators. The FF pass/fail criterion was set at 100. Results: Two subjects(4.1 %) passed the fit test before training on use of the N95. However, 36(73.5%) of the 49 passed the test after training. Overall the FF(GM(GSD)) was 13.4(3.2) before training, but improved to 106.6(2.1) after training, which was statistically significant. These findings suggest the efficacy of educational intervention, and the performance of the direct on-site training proved to be better than that of the traditional educational methods. Conclusions: This study showed the effect of on-site training of the N95 respirator among health care workers(HCW). Therefore, providing effective training on the use of N95 for HCWs before their work assignments will greatly reduce exposure to harmful agents. It is recommended that fit testing be mandated to check for adequate protection being provided by the given respirators.

The purpose of this study was to verify the effectiveness of an integrated nursing curriculum based on simulation with problem-based learning (PBL) by comparing the clinical competence and the self-confidence of newly graduated nurses. A non-equivalent control group post-test design was employed to compare the clinical competence and the self-confidence in the clinical performance examination using standardized patients between 39 newly graduated nurses with the traditional nursing curriculum and 35 with the integrated nursing curriculum. Data analysis involved Fisher's exact test, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and ANCOVA with the SPSS 19.0 program. The total clinical competence mean score graded by the standardized patients was not different between the two groups. However, the total clinical competence mean score graded by faculty was significantly higher in the integrated curriculum group than the traditional curriculum group. The mean self-confidence score was significantly higher in the integrated curriculum group than the traditional curriculum group. Active teaching-learning strategies including simulation or PBL in the nursing curriculum could benefit for nursing students by inducing favorable clinical competence and self-confidence. Longitudinal follow-up studies based on observation are needed to explore the patient outcomes in addition to the learner outcomes in clinical settings.
