  • In this paper, we propose a stroke matching method for the off-line recognition of handprinted Hangul. In this method, the preprocessing steps such as position normalization, contour tracing and thinning are carried out first. Then, after extracting features such as the firection component distribution of contour, the direction component distribution of skeleton, and the distribution of structural feature points, strokes are extracted and matched based on the midpont distribution of the direction and the length of each stroke. In order to reduce the recognition time, a preliminary classification based on the direction component distribution features of the contour is performed. In order to domonstrate the performance of the proposed method, experiments with 520 most frequently used Hangul were performed, and 90.7% of correct recognition rate and 0.46second of recognition time per one character has been obtained. This results reveal that the proposed method can absorb effectively the noise in input character and the variations of stroke slant.

  • Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is associated with a considerable proportion of strokes and head injuries. The mechanism of brain cell injury associated with hemorrhage may be different from that due to pure ischemia. Therefore, it is essential that models of intracerebral hemorrhage be developed and well characterized in animal model. Yukmijihwangwon (YM) has been known to reinforce the vital essence and have antioxidant activities. In this study, the protective effects of YM was investigated against ICH in animal models. Adult rats had 2 microliters saline containing 0.5 and 5 unit bacterial collagenase infused into the right caudate nucleus. It was found out that YM was effective in protecting brain against ICH.

  • In this paper, a new stroke extraction method of Chinese character base on the human optical field(the Receptive Field of Cell) is proposed. In processing the feature extraction of the chinese character, needed are more perfect extraction methods for separated informations and its data base. This method can be applied to processing neural cell using conventional feature extraction mechanism in the optical boundary of retina and cerebrum. With this method, its applicability and effectiveness were demonstrated extracting strokes from Chinese character.

  • In this paper, an improved on-line neural network model is suggested. This neural network is designed to store and recall sequence of key strokes in on-line. The network stores incoming patterns as weight connections between series of layers. The layer has a 2-dimensionally distributed neurons where the location of neurons are relevant to the actual location of computer keyboard. To store longer patterns, the network has circulating layer connections and different patterns can be superposed on the same layer. Also, when the patterns are stored over the layers, the starting layer is not fixed but changed by the characteristics of Patterns to increases network capability. The ways how to choose the starting layer during the store and recall process are investigated.

  • An arc model based on the N-S equations modified by adding an energy source term to take account of the arc is developed and solved using Taylor-Garlerkin FEM in the present paper. The numerical method is applied to the simulation of the opening procedure of a puffer type GCB. Moving boundary conditions of the arc chamber during operation is taken into account. Numerical predictions of the temperature profiles at different strokes are presented.

  • Using the EMTP(Electro Magnetic Transient Program) for the analysis of lightning direct voltage on the railway system, the shielding effects of overhead grounding wire on the railway were studied quantitatively. Installation of overhead ground wire and sap-type arrester such as s-horn provides a 6.6kV HV distribution line with goof protection effects. Even severe lightning induced voltage were create, 6.6kV HV lines can be withstand.

  • The design and performance of HTMD(hybrid tuned mass dampers) are evaluated for the response control of a md excited 76-story benchmark building. When a HTMD utilizes active control forces, the optimally designed TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) generates the modal separation at the first natural frequency resulting in difficulties for applying active control forces additionally. Whereas, the modal separation does no occur if the un is designed with the non-optimally designed TMD is used. Therefore, the response control performance of the HTMD with a non-optimally designed TMD is better that one with an optimally designed TMD. Further, the non-optimally designed TMD has an advantage of smaller stroke than the optimally designed TMD relieving the difficulty of limited strokes.

  • PPM (Performance Prediction Methodology) developed by EPRI was introduced and applied to calculate the stem thrust of 3 and 4 inches flexible-wedge gate valves. The calculated stem thrusts of open and close strokes including cracking were compared with the results measured at in-situ differential pressure tests. The comparison has shown that PPM is an extremely conservative method to predict the minimum required stem thrust to operate motor-operated valves in a design basis accident condition of nuclear power plants.

  • A mathematical model and dynamic characteristics ova continuously variable damper for semi-active suspen- sion systems are investigated. After analyzing the geometry of a typical continuously variable damper, mathematical models fur individual components including piston, orifices, spring, and valves are first derived and then the flow equations for extension and compression strokes are investigated. To verify the developed mathematical model, the dynamic response of the model are simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK and are compared with experimental results. The proposed model can be used not only for mechanical components design but also for control system design.

  • In this paper, we studies the on-line recognition of handwritten character using WLD(weighted levenshtein distance) algorithm with parallelism. The Hangeul can be separated for unit of phonemes and the alphanumeric can be separated for unit of characters. And, we studies the parallelism and the concurrency of the WLD algorithm for realization of special-purpose processor. By the simulation result for 10, 000 characters in practical sentences, the recognition rate of strokes in obtained 96.57$\%$ and the separation rate for phonemes and characteristics is obtained 95.4$\%$.
