  • This study examined: 1) the effect of store density on perceived crowding 2) the difference of perceived price benefit of sale by store density 3) the effect of perceived price benefit and store density on perceived crowding and 4) the effect of perceived crowding and price benefit on shopping behaviors. Store density and perceived crowding were categorized into social and spatial dimensions. Data were collected with 6 (high, medium, and low social and spatial densities) * 2 (sale and no-sale) between-subjects experimental designs. A total of 395 responses were analyzed. The results revealed that social density affected social crowding, but spatial density had no effect on perceived crowding. Price benefit of sale was not different by store density. The sale itself did not affect perceived crowding. Under the social density situation, perceived price benefit reduced spatial crowding and social crowding showed a positive effect on purchase behavior while spatial crowding had a negative effect. However, the most important effect on purchase behavior was price benefit. The study implies that social density (not spatial density) is important for consumer behavior and retail strategies.

  • Purpose - It has already been proved that 'mood' as the physical environment of shopping affects consumers' main sensory channels such as sight, hearing, smell, touch. However, there is no consensus on how the olfactory cue influences the customers in the shopping environment. In this study, we examine the previous studies on how the olfactory cue affects the customers in the shopping environment and present a clear direction as a suggestion for progressive research. Research design, data, and methodology - It is not important to use a lot of unconditional fragrance, but it should be exposed to the environment that suits the proper fragrance. In recent years, meaningful research on store fragrance has been slowly increasing. As a result, studies on the fragrance effects of retail stores have been conducted to verify the relevance of fragrance suitability in stores and consumer spending scale. Results - The fragrance appropriate for each store can not be uniformly specified as any fragrance. This is because external variables such as time, season, temperature, lighting, density of shoppers, and music in the store also affect customer evaluation. For example, using an unsuitable fragrance may encourage customers to leave the store quickly by restraining impulsive purchases or by disturbing concentration. The store manager should also be interested in using fragrances that are proven and effective in the store environment, but they should also have the ability to easily manipulate and manage the fragrances very appropriately according to changes in the store environment. Store managers should observe consumer preferences and responses according to their goals and strategies, and then systematically manage and store information about the fragrance appropriate to the store. Conclusions - In the future, the fragrance marketing researcher needs to consider the spatial form and density of the customer. In practice, managers operating a retail store should check the most appropriate store density(congestion) according to the size and spatial characteristics of the store and maintain the ideal conditions. To do this, it is necessary to pay attention to how to select and control sensory elements such as fragrance(olfactory), music(auditory), and lighting(visual).

  • This study examined the effects of store density levels on consumers'crowding perception and the effects of perceived retail crowding on consumer emotions and in turn shopping behavior. In addition, the study investigated the effects of perceived price value and store type on the segmented dimensions of perceived retail crowding. Results of an experimental test with 3 density levels and 2 store types confirmed the effects of density on social crowding and spatial crowding. While social crowding positively affected arousal, spatial crowding negatively did pleasure which in turn affected approach-avoidance behavior. Though two store types showed the same pattern in such relationships, the effect of perceived price value on retail crowding was different by store type.

  • This study was conducted to investigate air quality in the underground parking lot of department store. Sampling sites were selected to the three sites in one department store. Measuring instrument started from November 3rd, 2005 to November 9, 2005. Target air quality parameters include a number of criteria pollutants such as NOx, $O_3$. The purpose of this study was to find out the present condition of indoor air quality in underground parking space of department store. Through the field measurement, the current situation and the behavior of contaminants were investigated and then was compared with the advice standards. The result of this study was as follows; The Average density of NOx gas and $O_3$ gas was maintained below the indoor air advice standards. The Average density of NOx gas and $O_3$ gas was highly measured during the weekend than during the week day. Average density of NOx gas and $O_3$ gas was highly measured at daytime than that of afternoon. Average density of NOx gas was highly measured in the center area than the other area. Average density of $O_3$ gas was highly measured at the entrance than the other area. NOx gas concentration was maintained below 0.3ppm, an average for 1 hours, as defined in the parking space law. $O_3$ gas concentration was maintained below 0.08ppm, an average for 1 hours, as defined in the parking space law.

  • As development of information technologies, customer retention has been an important issue in the competing environment. A lot of researches focus on prediction of the churning customers and seeking their characteristics. However, relationships among customers or products have not been considered in existing researches. In this study, product networks are proposed and analyzed to investigate the differences of network characteristics of products purchased by potential churning customers and those of loyal customers. The product networks are constructed from real product purchase data collected from a Korean department store. We investigated the characteristic differences, such as the degree centrality, degree centralization, and density, of two product networks constructed by potential churning customers and the loyal customers. The results indicate that degree centrality, density and degree centralization of the product network of the loyal customers are higher than those of the potential churning customers. And the promotional products of the department store are resulted to be effective in attracting the loyal customers.

  • Because ships are very isolated and independent objects when sailing on the ocean, if a fire and smoke occurs, nobody can be sure to escape safely from ship at the moment. On the focus of the relationship between the sight transmissivity by fire smoke density and the life safety, this study performs simulations and experiments, respectively. To evaluate the theoretical evacuation time, CFAST software which is known as a 2 zone model analysis tool is used, and the result is 54 seconds from ECR(Engine Control Room) exit to upper deck exit and 34 seconds from bosun store to upper deck exit. And totally 12 types of experiments are performed with other 10 persons per experiment. As the result, it is cleared that the low sight transmissivity leads to the low life safety and the obstruction which can be happen unexpectedly on the evacuation way on fire makes it worse. At the condition of the smoke density 0%, over 90% people arrive at upper deck exit safely. But with the transmissivity of 8%, 70%(from ECR) and 30%(from bosun store) among experiment persons of each can survive, and with same density and unexpected obstruction, the survival ratio goes down to only 20% and 10%.

  • In this study, changes in commercial areas in Yeongdo-gu urban regeneration region were analyzed in terms of regional revitalization. Urban decline can accelerate the decline of downtown commercial functions, and revitalization of stagnant areas can be evaluated as enhancing the vitality of commercial areas. To reach this objective, dynamic changes in the commercial area in urban regeneration region were confirmed through store density, industry diversity, and restaurant/cafe ratio. As a result of the study, it was found that the store density and industry diversity showed an increasing trend in Yeong-do urban regeneration region. Although it is difficult to find a substantial difference in the ratio of restaurant/cafe, it seems that Yeongseon 2-dong has undergone a relatively large commercial change. This research is significant in that it quantitatively evaluated and analyzed commercial changes in Yeongdo-gu urban regeneration region.

  • Recently Data Centric Storage (DCS) schemes are variously studied for several applications (e.g. natural environment investigation, military application systems and environmental changes monitoring). In DCS scheme, data is stored at nodes within the network by name. There are several drawbacks in the existing schemes. The first is the inefficiency of the range query processing on not considered the locality of store point. the second is the non-homogeneity of store load of each sensors in case of the sensor distribution density is non-uniformed. In this paper, we propose a novel data centric storage scheme with the sensor distribution density which satisfied with the locality of data store location. This scheme divides whole sensor network area using grid and distributes the density bit map witch consist of the sensor density information of each cell. sensors use the density bit map for storing and searching the data. We evaluate our scheme with existing schemes. As a result, we show improved load balancing and more efficient range query processing than existing schemes in environment which sensors are distributed non-uniform.
