Adsorption mechanism of copper ions on porous chitosan membranes: Equilibrium and XPS study

  • Heavy metal contamination has attracted considerable attention during recent decades due to the potential risk brought about for human beings and the environment. Several adsorbent materials are utilized for the purification of contaminated water resources among which chitosan is considered as an appropriate alternative. Copper is a heavy metal contaminants found in several industrial wastewaters and its adsorption on porous and macroporous chitosan membranes is investigated in this study. Membranes are prepared by phase inversion and particulate leaching method and their morphology is characterized using SEM analysis. Batch adsorption experiments are performed and it is found that copper adsorption on macroporous chitosan membrane is higher than porous membrane. The iso-steric heat of adsorption was determined by analyzing the variations of temperature to investigate its effect on adsorption characteristics of macroporous chitosan membranes. Furthermore, desorption experiments were studied using NaCl and EDTA as eluants. The mechanism of copper adsorption was also investigated using XPS spectroscopy which confirms simultaneous occurrence of chelation and electrostatic adsorption mechanisms.

  • N-아세틸피롤리돈과그 양성자 형태에 대하여 EHT 및 CNDO/2 분자궤도함수법으로 연구하였다. 계산결과는 분자내의 무거운 원자들의 골격이 평면구조인 경우가 가장 안전하며, 평면형태에서는 트란스-트란스형이 시스-트란스형보다 더 안정함을 나타내고, 양성자화는 고리에 붙어있는 카르보닐 산소에서 더 용이하게 일어남을 나타내고 있다. 이 결과를 콘주게이션, 정전기적 및 입체효과로서 설명하였다.

  • Monodisperse polymer particles have many industrial applications such as surface coatings for metal panels, chromatographic media, spacers for liquid crystal display panel, and fillers for cosmetics, etc.. Micron-size monodispersed poly(methyl methacrylate) particles were prepared by dispersion polymerization in methanol medium in the presence of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) and 2,2'-azobis(isobutyronitrile) as steric stabilizer and initiator, respectively. Effects of polymerization parameters, such as monomer and initiator concentration, stabilizer type and concentration, solvent composition on average particle size and size distribution were studied.

  • Palm Oil Fuel Ash(POFA),which is burned in palm oil factories to get energy and gathered, has been studied in many countries due to its chemical properties. However POFA has high value of LOI and lots of pores on its particle surface. Therefore, in this study, POFA's fluidity were confirmed by mini-slump test and plastic viscosity test. Through the results, fluidity of POFA reduced according to the replacement ratio of POFA because of high value of LOI and its pores on surface and plastic viscosity of POFA increased. In addition, when superplasticizer was added, fluidity increased due to the steric effect of polycarboxylate superplasticizer.

  • 6-(1-azidoalkyl)-DMNQ derivatives compared to 2-(1-azidoalkyl)-DMNQ isomers, exhibited higher cytotoxic activity against L1210 mouse leukemia cells and stronger inhibition of DNA topoisomerase-I (TOPO-I), suggesting involvement of steric hindrance. However, similar antitumor activity against mice bearing S-180 cell was shown by 2-an 6-(1-azidoalkyl)-DMNQ derivatives.

  • Tricarbonyl(2-methyl-1-phenylpentadienyl)iron(+1) hexafluorophosphate 양이온이 hexafluorophosphoric acid를 사용한 tricarbonyl(4-methyl-5-hexadien-1-ol)iron의 양성자 첨가반응에 의해 얻어졌다. 그 양이온과 $H_2o$, dimethyl cuprate, diphenylacetylenyl cuprate, 그리고 cyclohexanone의 enolate와의 반응은 그것들에 대응하는 (η4-1,3-diene)Fe(CO)3를 형성시켰다. 친핵체의 공격에 있어서의 위치 선택성은 주로 입체효과의 결과인 것으로 보인다.

  • The kinetic studies on the reactions of O-methyl (1), O-propyl (3) and O-isopropyl (4) phenyl phosphonochloridothioates with substituted anilines and deuterated anilines have been carried out in acetonitrile at $55.0^{\circ}C$. A concerted $S_N2$ mechanism is proposed for the anilinolyses of 1, 3 and 4. The anilinolysis rates of the phosphonochloridothioates are predominantly dependent upon the steric effects over the inductive effects of the two ligands. The deuterium kinetic isotope effects (DKIEs; $k_H/k_D$) are primary normal with 1 and 3, while secondary inverse with 4. Primary normal and secondary inverse DKIEs are rationalized by frontside and backside nucleophilic attack transition state, respectively. The DKIEs of the phosphonochloridothioates do not have any consistent correlations with the two ligands.

  • EPDM, IIR, 그리고 BIIR 복합체를 열노화시켜 가교밀도 변화를 조사하였다. 노화 시간이 증가하거나 노화온도가 올라갈수록 EPDM 복합체의 가교밀도는 증가하였으나, 고온에서 장기간 노화된 IIR과 BIIR 복합체의 가교밀도는 감소하는 경향을 보였다. EPDM 복합체의 가교밀도 변화에 대한 활성화 에너지는 BIIR 복합체보다 높았다. 실험결과는 알릴 수소의 수, 아연 복합체의 활성화, 입체 가리움 효과, 그리고 고무 사슬의 산화로 설명하였다.

  • Various analogues of 5,8-dimethoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (DMNQ) such as 2- or 6-(1-hydroxyiminoalkyl)-DMNQs were prepared and evaluated for the antitumor action. (1 -Hydroxyiminoalkyl)-DMNQs derivatives expressed greater antitumor action than (1-hydroxyalkyl) - or acyl-DMNQ derivatives. Moreover, 6-(1-hydroxyiminoalkyl)-DMNQ derivatives expressed higher antitumor action than 2-substituted ones, suggestive of a steric effect. Some of 6-(1-propyloxyalkyl)-DMNQ derivatives with an alkyl group of butyl to octyl moiety showed T/C values of >400%

  • The reaction of carbon dioxide with the amine-based absorbents which have various substituents in the molecule was described. In the case of MEA which is a representative primary amine, the absorption reaction was proceeded very fast while the regeneration reaction was took place slowly due to the strong bond strength between the absorbent and carbon dioxide. The more substituents on N atom of the absorbent, the slower the absorption reaction between carbon dioxide and the absorbent, which in turn causes faster the regeneration rate from the reaction intermediate, carbamate.
