  • In this paper, we tried to develop a vowel training assistant method using vowel formant statistics. Formant statistics were obtained from PBW set consists of 452 words from 8 persons. Then, we calculated distance from input formants to each center of vowel formant space. Based on the distance, directions to correct the speaker's manner of articulation, i.e. position of jaw and tongue.

  • We consider a large class of exponential regression models with censored data and propose two modified Fisher scoring methods with corresponding algorithms. These proposed methods improve the Newton-Raphson method in estimating the model parameters. The simulated and real examples are illustrated in aspect of convergence.

  • The bootstrap calibration method for empirical likelihood is considered to make a confidence region for the regression coefficients. Asymptotic properties are studied regarding the coverage probability. Small sample simulation results reveal that the bootstrap calibration works quite well.

  • We selected, in previous research, a major DNA Marker 235bp of ILSTS035 microsatellite locus in progeny test Hanwoo chromosome 6. We apply a major DNA Marker 235bp to perormance valuation Hanwoo chomosome 6. We use bootstrap BCa method and calculate confidence interval. A major DNA Marker 235bp is verified that it does not have environmental effect but affects primely economic trait factor.

  • Blind source separation (BSS) is a fundamental problem that is encountered in many practical applications. In most existing methods, stationary sources are considered higher-order statistics is necessary either explicitly or implicitly. But, many natural signals are nonstationary, and it is possible to perform BSS using only second-order statistics. Our method is based on only second order statistics. The algorithms are developed using the gradient descent method in orthogonality constraint and their performance is confirmed by numerical experiments.

  • In this paper, we consider the bootstrap method to the interval estimation of the difference of quantiles of right censored data. We showed the validity of bootstrap method and compare with others with real data example. In simulation various resampling schemes for right censored data are also considered.

  • The generalized partial autocorrelation (GPAC) method of Woodward and Gray (1981) and the 3-pattern method of Choi (1991) have been used for identifying ARMA processes. The methods are based on the extended Yule-Walker equations. The purpose of this paper is to show the 3-pattern method is superior to the GPAC method through theoretical analysis and computer simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose a penalized likelihood method to detect local spatial clusters associated with disease. The key computational algorithm is based on genlasso by Tibshirani and Taylor (2011). The proposed method has two main advantages over Kulldorff's method which is popoular to detect local spatial clusters. First, it is not needed to specify a proper cluster size a priori. Second, any type of covariate can be incorporated and, it is possible to find local spatial clusters adjusted for some demographic variables. We illustrate our proposed method using tuberculosis data from Seoul.

  • Purpose This study measures the degree of improvement in statistical quality experienced by data users when the data of a more convenient measurement method is extended to the analysis target to improve the quality of fine dust statistics service, and the method of expressing analysis data is revised. Ultimately, the main purpose is to explore how it can affect the quality of life of citizens. Design/methodology/approach As it was an issue the emerged as the most important issue at the time, various parties (government, private company, academia, civic groups, etc.) conducted multifaced research on fine dust, but they all focused on measuring technology and demonstrating its effectiveness there was only. This researcher redesigned the study from the viewpoint of statistical data users by changing the research subject from the technology itself to user, different from the existing research cases. The questionnaire method and structural equation were used in the study, and fine dust statistics generated through the existing method and the expanded/revised method were provided and compared for a total of 200 people. Findings Based on the results of the study, I would like to suggest what each entity should ultimately focus on to resolve the fine dust issue in the future.

  • Statistical matching is a methodology used to merge microdata from two (or more) files into a single matched file, the variants of which have been extensively studied. Among existing studies, we focused on Moriarity and Scheuren's (2001) method, which is a representative method of statistical matching for continuous data. We examined this method and proposed a revision to it by using a robust approach in the regression step of the procedure. We evaluated the efficiency of our revised method through simulation studies using both simulated and real data, which showed that the proposed method has distinct advantages over existing alternatives.
