The deployment of sensors for Structural Health Monitoring requires a complicated network arrangement, ground truthing, and calibration for validating sensor performance periodically. Any conventional sensor on a structural element is also subjected to static and dynamic vertical loadings in conjunction with other environmental factors, such as brightness, noise, temperature, and humidity. A structural model with strain gauges was built and tested to get realistic sensory information. This paper investigates different deep learning architectures and algorithms, including unsupervised, autoencoder, and supervised methods, to benchmark blind drift calibration methods using deep learning. It involves a fully connected neural network (FCNN), a long short-term memory (LSTM), and a gated recurrent unit (GRU) to address the blind drift calibration problem (i.e., performing calibrations of installed sensors when ground truth is not available). The results show that the supervised methods perform much better than unsupervised methods, such as an autoencoder, when ground truths are available. Furthermore, taking advantage of time-series information, the GRU model generates the most precise predictions to remove the drift overall.
Recently, promising structural technologies like multi-function, ultra-load bearing capacity and tailored structures have been put up for discussions. Finite Element (FE) modelling is probably the best-known option capable of treating these superior properties and multi-domain behavior structures. However, advanced materials such as Functionally Graded Material (FGM) and nanocomposites suffer from problems resulting from variable material properties, reinforcement aggregation and mesh generation. Motivated by these factors, this research proposes a unified shape function for FGM, nanocomposites, graded nanocomposites, in addition to traditional isotropic and orthotropic structural materials. It depends not only on element length but also on the beam's material properties and geometric characteristics. The systematic mathematical theory and FE formulations are based on the Timoshenko beam theory for beam structure. Furthermore, the introduced element achieves C1 degree of continuity. The model is proved to be convergent and free-off shear locking. Moreover, numerical results for static and free vibration analysis support the model accuracy and capabilities by validation with different references. The proposed technique overcomes the issue of continuous properties modelling of these promising materials without discarding older ones. Therefore, introduced benchmark improvements on the FE old concept could be extended to help the development of new software features to confront the rapid progress of structural materials.

Seabed settlement underneath a coastal structure may occur due to wave loading generated by storm surge. If the foundation seabed consists of sandy soil, the possibility of the seabed settlement may be more susceptible because of generation of residual excess pore-water pressure and cyclic mobility. However, most coastal structures, such as breakwater, quay wall, etc., are designed by considering wave load assumed to be static condition as an uniform load and the wave load only acts on the structure. In real conditions, however, the wave load is dynamically applied to seabed as well as the coastal structure. In this study, therefore, a real-time wave load is considered and which is assumed acting on both the structure and seabed. Based on a numerical analysis, it was found that there exists a significant effect of wave load on the structure and seabed. The deformation behavior of the seabed according to time was simulated, and other related factors such as the variation of effective stress and the change of effective stress path in the seabed were clearly observed.
This study estimated ultimate load by the determination methods based on ultimate load, yield load and settlement using experimental data from static load tests that applied load to driven piles used in sandy grounds at home and overseas until failure appeared markedly. Estimated ultimate load was normalized with actually measured failure load, and was compared among the determination methods according to the characteristics of pile. In addition, I have identified to the determination methods suitable for estimating ultimate load, and reevaluated the safety factor when determining allowable load. From the results of this study were drawn conclusions as follows. Among ultimate loads estimated by the ultimate-load-based determination methods, the value interpreted by Chin's method tended to overestimate actual measurements, and B. Hansen 80% standard and the stability plot method were considered most reliable as their results were closest to actual measurements. According to the results of this study, in calculating the allowable load, if the safety factor to be applied to failing load obtained by the method of determining extreme load is converted to the safety factor applied to the Standards for Structure Foundation Design, a value larger than 3.0 should be applied except the B. Hansen 90% method, and a value larger than 2.0 should be applied in the methods of determining yield load. In addition, if the safety factor to be applied to load obtained by the settlement standard is converted based on safety factor 3.0 for extreme load, a value smaller than 3.0 should be applied to the total settlement standard and the net settlement standard.
The assessment of structural performance of transfer structures under potential seismic actions is presented. Various seismic assessment methodologies are used, with particular emphasis on the accurate modelling of the higher mode effects and the potential development of a soft storey effect in the mega-columns below the transfer plate (TP) level. Those methods include response spectrum analysis (RSA), manual calculation, pushover analysis (POA) and equivalent static load analysis (ESA). The capabilities and limitations of each method are highlighted. The paper aims, firstly, to determine the appropriate seismic assessment methodology for transfer structures using these different approaches, all of which can be undertaken with the resources generally available in a design office. Secondly, the paper highlights and discusses factors influencing the response behaviour of transfer structures, and finally provides a general indication of their seismic vulnerability. The representative Hong Kong building considered in this paper utilises a structural system with coupled shear walls and moment resisting portal-frames, above and below the TP, respectively. By adopting the wind load profile stipulated in the Code of Practice on Wind Effects: Hong Kong-1983, all the structural members are sized and detailed according to the British Standards BS8110 and the current local practices. The seismic displacement demand for the structure, when built on either rock or deep soil sites, was determined in a companion paper. The lateral load-displacement characteristic of the building, determined herein from manual calculation, has indicated that the poor ductility (brittle nature) of the mega-columns, due mainly to the high level of axial pre-compression as found from the analysis, cannot be effectively alleviated solely by increasing the quantity of confinement stirrups. The interstorey drift demands at lower and upper zones caused by seismic actions are found to be substantially higher than those arising from wind loads. The mega-columns supporting the TP and the coupling beams at higher zones are identified to be the most vulnerable components under seismic actions.
The usage of textile-based sensors has increased due to their many advantages (compared to IT sensors) when applied to body assessment and comfort. Textile-based sensors have different detecting factors such as pressure, voltage, current and capacitance to investigate the characteristics. In this study, textile-based sensor fabrics with sheath-core type conductive yarns were produced and the relationship between capacitance changes and applied load was investigated. The physical and electric properties of textile-based sensor fabrics were also investigated under various laminating conditions. A textile based pressure sensor that uses a sheath-core conductive yarn to ensure the stability of the pressure sensor in the textile-based sensor (the physical structure of the reaction characteristic of the capacitance) is important for the stability of the initial value of the initial capacitance value outside the characteristic of the textile structural environment. In addition, a textile based sensor is displaced relative to the initial value of the capacitance change according to pressure changes in the capacitance value of the sensor due to the fineness of the high risk of noise generation. Changing the physical structure of the fabric through the sensor characteristic of the pressure sensor via the noise generating element of laminating (temperature, humidity, and static electricity) to cut off the voltage output element to improve the data reliability could be secured.
The prediction of the dynamic response of a bridge resulting from passing vehicles across the span is a significant problem in bridge design. In this paper. the static and dynamic experiments are performed to understand the dynamic behavior of an actual two-span steel plate girder bridge. The road surface roughness of the roadway and bridge deck is directly measured by Intelligent Total Station. Numerical scheme to obtain the dynamic responses of the bridges in consideration of measuring road surface roughness and 3-D vehicle model is also presented. The bridge and vehicle are modeled as 3-D bridge and vehicle model, respectively. The main girder and concrete deck are modeled as beam and shell elements, respectively and rigid link is used for the structure between main girder and concrete deck. Bridge-vehicle interaction equations are derived and the impact factors of the responses for different vehicle speeds are calculated and compared with those predicted by several foreign specifications.

Intolerance of Uncertainty is associated with numerous psychopathologies, including generalized anxiety disorders. However, several studies differ in the factor structures applicable for the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IUS), and there exists a debate regarding the factorial and construct validity. Thus, in the current study, the IUS was newly translated to explore and verify the structures and factors relative to the cultural background of Korea. The study involved an exploratory factor analysis of randomly extracted data from 260 of 533 adults selected. Results determined that a prospective factor of 3 items and inhibitory factor of 5 items was appropriate. In addition, a confirmatory factor analysis and correlation analysis of the remaining 273 data revealed that a structural model comprising of the 8-items two factors model was well suited (x2=37.699, TLI=0.951, CFI=0.969, RMSEA=0.063, SRMR=0.039), and showed significant static correlation with worry, depression, and state-trait anxiety.
This study modeled 4-lane highway in three-dimensional virtual reality in order to overcome difficulties of field experiment. and the research subject was placed in a driving simulator. We survey the driver's cognitive characteristics to the alignment changes in the three-dimensional virtual reality highway. Especially, maximizing the identity of driving movements and virtual scenery on the basis of the data obtained by dynamic analysis module. we minimized simulator sickness for the graphic module of driving simulator. And we carried out cognitive evaluation on the basis of adjective words extracted by dictionary and the opinion of specialist. In this study LISREL model was used to detect the causal relation between geometry and safety in cognitive side, and found that geometric change affects the safety of drivers by static and dynamic road safety model in three-dimensional combined alignments. As the result, for constructing safety road. we consider drivers' cognitive characteristics as human factors in road design, and we think that they are very important factors to improve road safety.
This paper considers the effect of "comprehensive rural community improvement project" in terms of three factors - physical environment, rural tourism, socioeconomic and analyzed the path effect leading to the final outcome - the quality of life of residents, using covariance structure analysis. By doing so, this study looks into why residents prefer the improvement of a physical environment that takes a public nature. The analysis showed that the socioeconomic effect did not have an immediate impact on the improvement of quality of life of residents at a significance level of 5%, whereas the improvement of physical environment had a static effect on the quality of living at a significance level of 1%. Residents' preference for "hardware" or physical environment may be attributed to lack of their understanding of human factors such as social capital. However, analyzing the impact of specific contents of the project on performance, it is found that as projects fail to generate a tangible socioeconomic effect, residents strategically prefer the repair of their physical environment such as public facilities that directly affect their daily lives, so that they can maximize an improvement of the quality of living. Hence, this study suggests that instead of attributing the failure of rural community development projects to residents, macroscopic problems of rural communities and specific contents of projects should be dealt with before the success of any project can be discussed.
