점호각을 고려한 유도전동기의 소프트 기동 특성 해석 (Analysis of Soft Start-up Characteristics of the Induction Motor Considering the Firing Angle)

  • Induction motors are used widely in driving load of a fluid, such as a pump or a fan in the industry. Induction motor has been generated the voltage drop by the occurrence of a high current during startup. In addition, high start-up current can act as a mechanical stress on the shaft of the motor. So there is need a way to reduce the starting current. Soft start method is one of the many ways to reduce the starting current. This method uses silicon-controlled rectifiers(SCRs) for varying value of the voltage applied to the motor. There is a case for fixing or changing the thyristor firing angle to adjust the magnitude of the voltage. Starting power factor of induction motor is very low compared to the normal operation. Soft starting with the firing angle fixed needs to be considered a low power factor at startup. In this study, we compared the direct start characteristics and soft start characteristics considering the low power factor at the time of start-up. It was possible to confirm that the starting current and the voltage drop is present differently according to the firing angle.

  • The aim of this study is to show the effect of starting block angle on the starting motion of sprinters using a crouching start. After installing starting blocks on forced platform, and having four highly comparative sprinters use the starting blocks, I analyzed the angular momentum of a crouching start. From the results of the analysis, the following conclusions could be drawn: There were differences of angular momentum both in body's X, Y, and Z axes and in the thighs' X axes, but not in the pelvis and lower legs. As to the general change of block angle, we noticed that an angular momentum for each segments was higher at an angle of 50 to 55 degrees.

  • This paper describes a one-chip micom controller and phase angle control method for self-starting and energy saving of single-phase induction motor. The proposed method is based on the optimal efficiency control which is running by variable phase angle of main winding current such as to maintain the maximum efficiency characteristics of the motor, in voltage control with TRIAC. Experiments are focused on a capacitor starting single-phase induction motor. The optimal energy saving by variable phase angle control are verified by experimental results. Also, auxiliary winding was controlled by electronic starting switch.

  • In this paper, an auxiliary winding driving system of single-phase induction motors is described. Starting charateristics variations are obtained by controlling the auxiliary winding voltage magnitude and phase angle, while the motor's main winding is directly connected to the local utility. A variable auxiliary winding voltage phase angle is shown to yield significant torque control, providing starting and braking torque. The analysis includes the determination of the relationship between the auxiliary winding voltage phase angle and the phase angle difference between the main and auxiliary winding current. The paper proposed for adjusting an auxiliary winding voltage magnitude and phase angle. Experimental results of motor's starting characteristics with using the DC-AMP and PWM inverter for auxiliary winding power supply are shown. The drive is tested using a dynamometer to experimentally verify the results of the theory.

  • The starting characteristics of single phase induction motor(SPIM) is described by control of phase and voltage. Auxiliary winding voltage is controlled by DC amplifier and phase is integrator. These processes enable comparison of torque with slip in each voltage and phase angle variations. Simulation and experimentation results of the motor's torque-slip characteristics using the controlled auxiliary winding voltage and phase angle arc shown and discussed. As a results, starting time is fast and main winding current is small when auxiliary winding voltage is low than rating voltage and starting characteristics is good in phase angle $90^{\circ}$.

  • The cold staring issue of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) is a chronic problem in the field of PMSM sensorless drives. A traditional starting method, called the I-F method, is widely adopted because of its simple structure. However, when using this method, the pre-defined magnitude and frequency of the starting current should be changed according to the condition of the load and machine inertia. In this paper, a smart and simple algorithm for the cold starting of PMSM is proposed. In the proposed method, an integrated control angle from the estimated electrical rotor speed is used for vector control such as the indirect vector control of the induction machine. Thus, very stable cold starting is performed regardless of the machine load condition or inertia changing.

  • The present paper deals with the numerical study to analyze the self-starting performance of impulse turbine in a reciprocating air flow generated by sinusoidal motion of wave inside oscillating water column. Result was compared to that of Wells turbine, well-known wave energy conversion device, and showed that the impulse turbine has a superior self-starting ability. More detailed parametric study was performed to demonstrate the effects of moment of inertia of rotor, loading torque, tip clearance and angle of guide vane.

  • The common drive method of the single phase induction motor(SPIM) is to install a start capacitor and a centrifugal switch in series with the auxiliary winding. In this paper, the phase angle voltage sequence controller is proposed to eliminate a start capacitor and a centrifugal switch of SPIM. In comparison with the capacitor start system of SPIM, the proposed control system shows that it contributes to saving the starting current about 57% and to improving of the starting efficiency of SPIM. The proposed starting characteristics of the SPIM is obtained with this strategy through simulation and experimental results.

병진운동하는 평판의 모서리에서의 3차원 와류 구조 가시화 (Three-dimensional vortex structure near a corner of a translating plate)

  • Three-dimensional vortex structures in the corner region of translating normal plates are visualized experimentally with defocusing digital particle image velocimetry. Vortex formation processes for three plates with corner angle $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, and $120^{\circ}$ are compared in order to study the effect of corner shape on vortex formation. In all cases, the self-induction of the starting vortex and its interaction with the potential flow induced by the moving plate cause the vortex to change its form dynamically after the plate starts to translate. While the vortex near a corner follows the plate in the low corner angle of $60^{\circ}$, the vortex separates early from the plate and its forward motion becomes slow in the high corner angle of $120^{\circ}$. It is also found that the starting vortex can transport inward at the corner, which depends on the corner angle.

  • Switched reluctance motors and drives are increasingly used in high speed applications due to their robust mechanical structures, low inertia, and reduction in the rotor losses. The turn-on angle has to be advanced as the motor speed increases, but it may cause the starting problem in some rotor positions. In this paper, the characteristics of the maximum speed and input voltage with the advance angle at high speeds is investigated. To overcome the starting problem and reduce the torque ripple, conduction overlapping is added in adjacent phases. The effectiveness of conduction overlapping is verified through the simulation and experiments.
