A study has been made of preferred orientation, crose sectional microstructure, surface morphology and mechanical properties of copper foils fabricated by electrodeposition on 304 stainless steel plate from copper sulfate baths for high speed plating. The preferred orientation of the copper foils changed from the [110] to the [111] to ture with decreasing bath temperature and increasing cathode current density. The foils with the [110] texture had the field oriented texture type structure and the surface of many asperities grooved approximately perpendicular to the subtrate. A specimen with the [111]+[311] texture had the lower strength than one with the [10] texture, if they were obtained under similar electrolysis conditions.
A commercial PbO2 electrode was adopted as the anode for the electrochemical degradation of the real textile effluent with the initial COD of 56.0 mg L-1 and the stainless steel plate as the cathode. The effect of the initial pH, the electrolyte flow rate and the cell voltage on the COD, the current efficiency and the energy consumption were investigated without the addition of NaCl or Na2SO4. The experimental results illustrated that the PbO2 electrode can reduce the COD of the textile effluent from 56.0 mg L-1 to 26.0 mg L-1 with the current efficiency of 86.1% and the energy consumption of 17.5 kWh kg-1 (per kilogram of degraded COD) under the optimal operating conditions. Therefore PbO2 electrode as the anode was promising to further electrochemically degrade the real textile effluent.
Laser welding of dissimilar metals has been widely used to improve a wear resistance and a corrosion resistance of the industrial parts. The objective of this research is to investigate the influence of the process parameters, such as the welding for SM45C and STS304 with CW Nd:YAG lasers. The bead-on-plate welding tests are carried out for several combinations of the experimental conditions. In order to quantitatively examine the characteristics of the dissimilar welding, the welding quality of the cut section, stress-strain behavior and the hardness of the welded metal are investigated. From the results of the investigation, it has been shown that the optimal voiding condition without defects in the vicinity of the welded area and with a good welding quality is 1600W of the laser power, 0.85m/min of welding speed and $4{\ell}/min$ of pressure for shielding gas.
The Nd:YAG laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and penetration, and has increased the automation and flexibility of an entire industry. Laser welding of dissimilar metals has been widely used to improve the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of industrial parts. The objective of this research is to investigate the influence of process parameters on the welding of SM45C and STS304 with CW Nd:YAG lasers. Bead-on-plate welding tests were carried out for several combinations of the experimental conditions. Pedro $G{\acute{o}}mez$ Bosque footbridge is a slender and lightweight structure that creates a pedestrian link over the Pisuerga River, Valladolid, Spain. This footbridge is a singular stress ribbon structure with one span of 85 m consisting on a steel plate and precast concrete slabs laying on it. Rubber pavement and a railing made of stainless steel and glass complete the footbridge. Because of its lively dynamics, prone to oscillate, a simple and affordable structural health monitoring system was installed in order to continuously evaluate its structural serviceability and to estimate its modal parameters. Once certain problems (conditioning and 3D orientation of the triaxial accelerometers) are overcome, the monitoring system is validated by comparison with a general purpose laboratory portable analyzer. Representative data is presented, including acceleration magnitudes and modal estimates. The evolution of these parameters has been analysed over one-year time.

Objective: To achieve optimal fit of implant, it is necessary to bend the implant during spine surgery. Bending procedure may decrease stiffness of plate especially made of titanium and stainless steel. Typically titanium suffers adverse effects including early crack propagation when it is bent. We investigate whether 6 degree bending of titanium plates would decrease the stiffness after full cyclic loading by comparing with non-bending titanium plates group. Methods: Authors experimented 40 titanium alloy plates of 57mm in length, manufactured by 5 different companies. Total 40 plates were divided into two groups (20 bent plates for experimental group and 20 non-bent plates for control group). Twenty plates of experimental group were bent to 6 degree with 3-point bending technique and verified with image analyzer. Using the electron microscope, we sought for a initial crack before and after 3-point bending. Mechanical testing by means of 6000 cyclic axial-compression loading of 35N in compression with moment arm of 35mm-1.1 Nm was conducted on each plate and followed by the electron microscopic examination to detect crack or fissure on plates. Results: The stiffness was decreased after 6000 cyclic loading, but there was no statistically significant difference in stiffness between experimental and control group. There was no evidence of change in grain structure on the electron microscopic magnification. Conclusion: The titanium cervical plates can be bent to 6 degree without any crack or weakness of plate. We also assume that minimal bending may increase the resistance to fatigue fracture in cervical flexion-extension movement.

Heat insulation plates of fumed silica were prepared by mixing fumed silica, SiC powder and chopped glass fiber by a high speed mixer followed by pressing of the mixture powder in a stainless steel mold of $100{\times}100mm$. Composition of the plates, particle size of SiC, and type of inorganic binder were varied for observation of their contribution to heat insulation of the plate. The plate was installed on the upper portion of an electric furnace the inside temperature of which was maintained at $400^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$, for investigation of heat transfer through the plate from inside of the electric furnace to outside atmosphere. Surface temperatures were measured in real time using a thermographic camera. The particle size of SiC was varied in the range of $1.3{\sim}17.5{\mu}m$ and the insulation was found to be most excellent when SiC of $2.2{\mu}m$ was incorporated. When the size of SiC was smaller or larger than $2.2{\mu}m$, the heat insulation effect was decreased. Inorganic binders of alkali silicate and phosphate were tested and the phosphate was found to maintain the heat insulation property while increasing mechanical properties.

The end plates of fuel cell assemblies are used to fasten the inner stacks, reduce the contact pressure, and provide a seal between Membrane-Electrode Assemblies (MEAs). They therefore require sufficient mechanical strength to withstand the tightening pressure, light weight to obtain high energy densities, and stable chemical/electrochemical properties, as well as provide electrical insulation. The design criteria for end plates can be divided into three parts: the material, connecting method, and shape. In the past, end plates were made from metals such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel alloys, but due to corrosion problems, thermal losses, and their excessive weight, alternative materials such as plastics have been considered. Composite materials consisting of combinations of two or more materials have also been proposed for end plates to enhance their mechanical strength. Tie-rods have been traditionally used to connect end plates, but since the number of connecting parts has increased, resulting in assembly difficulties, new types of connectors have been contemplated. Ideas such as adding reinforcement or flat plates, or using bands or boxes to replace tie-rods have been proposed. Typical end plates are rectangular or cylindrical solid plates. To minimize the weight and provide a uniform pressure distribution, new concepts such as ribbed-, bomb-, or bow-shaped plates have been considered. Even though end plates were not an issue in fuel cell system designs in the past, they now provide a great challenge for designers. Changes in the materials, connecting methods, and shapes of an end plate allow us to achieve lighter, stronger end plates, resulting in more efficient fuel cell systems.
The drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation is a widely acceptable treatment for coronary heart disease. It was reported that iron chelator had anti-proliferative effect on human vascular smooth muscle cells (HA-VSMCs). In this study, tetraphenylporphine (TPP) was selected as an iron chelator and drug for DES. MTT assay showed that TPP had antiproliferative effect on HA-VSMCs. TPP and polycaprolactone (PCL) were coated onto stainless steel plate using a spraycoating method. From the surface morphology examination of the coated plate by SEM, smooth polymer coating layer could be observed. The thickness of coating layer could be controlled by changing repeating time of coating. From in vitro release test, sustained release of TPP was observed from plate during two weeks. Thus, TPP as iron chelator can be used as drug for stent coating because of its antiproliferative effect and sustain release profile.
