  • Recently, the most promising methods for high purity hydrogen production are membranes separation such as polymer, metal, ceramic and composites. It is well known that Pd and Pd-alloys membranes have excellent properties for hydrogen separation. However, it has hydrogen embrittlement and high cost for practical applications. Therefore, most scientists have studied new materials instead of Pd and Pd-alloys. On the other hand, TiN powders are great in resistance to acids and chemically stable under high operating temperature. In order to get specimens for hydrogen permeation, the TiN powders synthesized were consolidated together with Co, Ni powders by hot press sintering (HPS). During the consolidation of powders at HPS, heating rate was 10 K/min and the pressure was 10 MPa. It was characterized by XRD, SEM. Also, we estimated the hydrogen permeability by Sievert's type hydrogen permeation membrane equipment.

  • Pd/Ge/Ti/Pt ohmic contact to n-type InCaAs was investigated. Minimum specific contact resistivity of $3.7\times10^{-6}\; \Omega\textrm{cm}^2$ was achieved by rapid thermal annealing at $400^{\circ}C$ for 10 seconds. This was related to the formation of Pd-Ge compounds and the in-diffusion of Ge atoms to InGaAs surface. However, the specific contact resistivity increased slightly to $low-10^5\; \Omega\textrm{cm}^2$ in the case of longer annealing time. Superior ohmic contact and non-spiking planar interface between ohmic materials and InGaAs were maintained after annealing at high temperature. Therefore, this thermally stable ohmic contact system is a promising candidate for compound semiconductor devices.

  • This paper presents finite element analyses solution in the travelling magnetic field problem. The travelling magnetic field problem is subject to convective-diffusion equation. Therefore, the solution derived from Galerkin-FEM with linear interpolation function may oscillate between the adjacent nodes. A simple model with Dirichlet, Neumann and Periodic boundary condition respectively, have been analyzed to investigate stabilities of solutions. It is concluded that the solution of Galerkin-FEM may oscillate according to boundary condition and element type, but that of Upwind-FFM is stable regardless boundary condition.

  • Because of the importance of small target detection in infrared images, many studies have been carried out in this area. Using a Kalman filter and mean shift algorithm, this study proposes an algorithm to track multiple small moving targets even in cases of target disappearance and appearance in serial infrared images in an environment with many noises. Difference images, which highlight the background images estimated with a background estimation filter from the original images, have a relatively very bright value, which becomes a candidate target area. Multiple target tracking consists of a Kalman filter section (target position prediction) and candidate target classification section (target selection). The system removes error detection from the detection results of candidate targets in still images and associates targets in serial images. The final target detection locations were revised with the mean shift algorithm to have comparatively low tracking location errors and allow for continuous tracking with standard model updating. In the experiment with actual marine infrared serial images, the proposed system was compared with the Kalman filter method and mean shift algorithm. As a result, the proposed system recorded the lowest tracking location errors and ensured stable tracking with no tracking location diffusion.

  • Three-dimensionally ordered macro-porous Sn-C composites were prepared by using polystyrene microsphere as a template. The Sn-C composites were composed of well-interconnected pore with circular shape and wall structure with wall thickness of a few tens of nano-meters. This porous three-dimensional structure is readily and uniformly accessible to the electrolyte, which facilitates lithium ion diffusion during charge-discharge reactions. The wall thickness of the composites was increased as the increase of Sn content of the composite. From EDS analysis, it is confirmed that the Sn was dispersed uniformly in Sn-C composites. The capacity was increased as the Sn content increased, which is due to Sn anode with high capacity. The Sn-C composites with high Sn content showed superior cyclic performances. Such enhancement is ascribed to the thick wall thickness and small pore size of the sample with high Sn content. The Sn-C composite with Sn 30 wt% showed relatively high capacity and stable cycle life, however, the stability of the 3-dimensional structure should be enhanced by further work.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate concentration level and characteristics of malodour substances generated from landfill site in C city. Also, it is tried to predict distribution of concentration level using ISCST3 model around landfill site. From the results, it can be confirmed that twelfth-class malodour substances such as ammonia, methyl mercaptan, hydrogen sulfide, dimethyl sulfate, dimethyl disulfate, toluene, acetaldehyde, styrene, propionaldehyde, butylaldehyde, n-Valeraldehyde, xylene were generated from landfill site. The levels of the malodour substances were lower than that of permeable concentration regulated by odor control law in Korea. However, the concentration of malodour substances including methyl mercaptan, hydrogen sulfide, acetaldehyde, and propionaldehyde exceeded threshold limit value(TLV). It was seemed that these substances caused the problem of offensive odor around circumstance of landfill. The concentration of malodour substances was higher in slant than in upper part of landfill. The concentrations of malodour substances measured at night time were shown higher level than those at night time because atmospheric condition was stable at night time. It showed that the concentration of malodour substances were higher in spring. The results of atmospheric diffusion model predicted that tolerance limit level of hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan was detected within nearly 5km from the boundary of landfill.

  • Gardeniae Fructus is consisted of geniposide and it's derivatives. For the purpose of treatment of skin disease, geniposide and hydrolyzed products (HP) of Gardeniae Fructus were studied on skin permeation and cross1inking with biological tissue. The hydrolyzed products (HP) and active ingredients of Gardeniae Fructus were identified and investigated about skin permeability. Genipin has provided low cytotoxic cross1inking reagents and formed stable and biocompatible crosslinked products. The permeation enhancing effects of geniposide and genipin under the hydrolyzed products of cream and hydrogel preparations were tested using Franz type diffusion cell and the skin of hairless mouse. The remaining proportions of geniposide and genipin were measured in the hydrolyzed products of cream and hydrogel preparations. The crosslinking of epidermic and endodermic tissue with genipin under the hydrolyzed prodcuts of cream and hydrogel preparation was observed using light microscopy. Increased absorption ratio of the skin of hairless mouse about genipin was higher than that of geniposide. Loads at break, tensile strengths and skin permeation rate of the hydrolyzed products (HP) of cream and hydrogel preparations were higher than the nonhydrolyzed products (NHP). The hydrolyzed products (HP) of cream and hydrogel of Gardeniae Fructus Extracts were proper preparations and crosslinking agents to increase the transdermal absorption with epidermic and endodermic tissue.

  • We investigated characteristics of temperature variation in urban and suburban areas(e.g., paddy field, upland, park, residential area) and urban heat island(UHI) during winter(December 2005 to February 2006). The daily maximum air temperature was not significantly different between suburban and urban areas, whereas the daily minimum air temperatures were significantly lower in the suburban areas than that in the residential area. The wind speed in the urban park(0.3 m/s) was much lower than that in the paddy fields(2.3 m/s), likely due to an urban canopy layer formed by high buildings. The UHI intensity was represented by differences in daily minimum temperatures between urban residential and paddy field areas. The UHI intensity($4.1^{\circ}C$) in winter was larger than that($2.6^{\circ}C$) in summer. This may be because a stable boundary layer develops in the winter, and thereby this inhibits diffusion of heat from surface.

  • In this paper, an air isolate (NITT6L) has been screened based on hemolytic activity, emulsification activity, drop collapsing test, and oil displacement test, as well as lipase activity. It was found that strain NITT6L was able to reduce the surface tension of the medium from 61.5 to 39.83 mN/m and could form stable emulsions with tested vegetable oils. Morphological, biochemical, 16S rRNA sequencing analyses, and fatty acid methyl ester analysis using gas chromatography confirmed that the air isolate under study was Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Characterization of the biosurfactant using agar double diffusion assay revealed that the biosurfactant was anionic in nature, and CTAB-methylene blue assay and Molisch test revealed its glycolipid nature. The FT-IR spectrum confirmed that the crude biosurfactant was a rhamnolipid. Using unoptimized medium containing sucrose as the carbon source, the isolate was found to produce 0.3 mg/ml of rhamnolipid in batch cultivation (shake flask) at $37^{\circ}C$ and pH 7. Optimization of the medium components was carried out using design of experiments and the yield of rhamnolipid has been enhanced to 4.6 mg/ml in 72 h of fermentation.

  • Methanol and aqueous extract of leaves of Trema orientalis Linn. were subjected to the potential antioxidant and antibacterial activities. The pharmacological interest of this plant coupled with traditional use (antidiarrhoeal, antiseptic, analgesic etc) prompted to test for antioxidant and antibacterial activities. The antioxidant potential of the methanolic extract was determined on the basis of their scavenging activity of the stable 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl free radical. $IC_{50}$ of the methanol extract of T. orientalis was $110.25\;{\mu}g/ml$ which indicated the strong antioxidant activity of the plant. However the aqueous extract showed mild antioxidant activity. In case of antibacterial activities test, the extract was subjected for its effectiveness against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in agar diffusion method. The zones of inhibition produced by the crude methanol and aqueous extract against few sensitive strains were measured and compared with those of standard antibiotic Gentamycin. It is evident that both extracts are active against the bacteria at low concentrations. The obtained results provide a support for the use of this plant in traditional medicine and suggest its further advance investigation.
