  • The gas hydrates are probably most sensitive to climate change since they are stable only under specific conditions of high pressure and low temperature. One of the main factors responsible for formation of gas hydrates is the saturation of the gases with water vapor. Quantitative phase equilibrium data and understanding of the roles of water component in the phase behavior of the heterogeneous water-hydrocarbon-hydrate mixture are of importance and of engineering value. In this study, the water content of ethylene gas in equilibrium with hydrate and water phases were analyzed by theoretical and experimental methods at temperatures between 274.15 up to 291.75 K and pressures between 593.99 to 8,443.18 kPa. The experimental and theoretical enhancement factors (EF) for the water content of ethylene gas and the fugacity coefficients of water and ethylene in gas phase were determined and compared with each other over the entire range of pressure carried out in this experiment. In order to get the theoretical enhancement factors, the modified Redlich-Kwong equation of state was used. The Peng-Robinson equations and modified Redlich-Kwong equations of state were used to get the fugacity coefficients for ethylene and water in the gas phase. The results predicted by both equations agree very well with the experimental values for the fugacity coefficients of the compressed ethylene gas containing small amount of water, whereas, those of water vapor do not in the ethylene rich gas at high temperature for hydrate formation locus.

  • The ion exchangers supported on silica gel containing primary, secondary, or tertiary amine groups show a behaviour that is weakly acidic, while the quaternary salts are strongly acidic. These properties change according to the hydrophilicities of the modifier functional groups. Ammonium salt derivatives supported on silica gel were prepared from silica modified with 3-Aminopropyltriethoxysiliane and N-3-(Trimethoxysilyl)propylehtylene diamine. The preparation and the ion exchange properties of two systems were discussed. Two systems have different hydrophilicities and contain ammonium chloride derivatives of 3-amminopropyltriethoxysilane and N-3-(triehtoxysilyl)propyl ethylene diamine supported on silica gel, $SA^+/Cl^-$ and $SA^+/Cl^-$, respectively. The high affinity to perchlorate ion presented by the $SA^+/Cl^-$ through the equilibrium studies of ion exchange led us to its application as an ion selective electrode for the perchlorate ion. The determination of the perchlorate ion in the presence of other anions and in complexes is very difficult. Few analytical methods are available and most of them are indirect. Both materials showed potential use as an ion exchanger; they are thermically stable, achieve equilibrium rapidly in the presence of suitable exchanger ions, and are easily recovered.

  • Stability analysis of rocky embankment slopes is done by both the limit equilibrium method and the finite difference method. The height or the rocky embankment is approximately 40 m and the side slope is 1 vertical to 1.5 horizontal. The cohesion and internal friction angle of rock debris are assumed zero and 43$^{\circ}$, respectively. For finite difference analysis, strength reduction method is used to calculate the saft factor of the slope. As a result, the safety factor of the slope is discovered to be 1.4 by using either methods. Considering that the design criteria of the safety factor is 1.3, it can be judged that the rock fragments embankment slope is in a stable state.

  • The equilibrium geometrical structures of silver atom clusters at their electronic ground states have been theo-retically determined by using the nonrelativistic semiempirical INDO/1 method. The clusters investigated are Agn, Agn+, and Agn- (n = 7 , 8, 9). In order to find the most stable structure, i.e., the global minimum in energy hypersurface, geometry optimization and energy calculation processes have been repeatedly performed for all the possible graphical models by changing the bond parameters (resonance integral values). The heptamers are pentagonal bipyramidal-Ag7(D5h), Ag7+ (D5h), Ag7- (D5h); the octamers are pentagonal bipyramidal with one atom capped-Ag8(D2d), Ag8+ (Cs), Ag8- (D2d); the nonamers are pentagonal bipyramidal with two atoms capped -Ag9(C2v), Ag9+ (C2v), Ag9- (C2v). Our structures are in good agreement with those by ab initio calculations ex-cept for the anionic Ag9- cluster. And it is noted that the INDO/1 method can accurately predict the Ag cluster geometries when a proper set of bond parameters is used.

  • This study empirically analyzed the welfare effect of the military purveyance program, which plays an important role in maintaining the sales channel and demand base in Korea's agricultural and livestock industry, as well as the stable supply of safe ingredients for military meals essential for the morale and combat power of soldiers. The military purveyance program causes additional demand for domestic livestock products, affecting the trading volumes and price levels in the market. This will change the welfare of producers and consumers, and affect the welfare of soldiers who are subject to military meals. The analysis results obtained through a simulation method based on the equilibrium displacement model are as follows. In the case of pork delivered for military service, producer surplus increased by KRW 55.3-62.2 billion and consumer surplus decreased by KRW 55.1~62.0 billion based on pork production in 2021. It wad analyzed that the consumer surplus in the military supply market, rather than the conventional market, increased by KRW 96.9 billion won, resulting in a total welfare gain of KRW 97.1 billion.

  • Virotherapy is an effective method for the treatment of cancer. The oncolytic virus specifically infects the lyse cancer cell without harming normal cells. There is a time delay between the time of interaction of the virus with the tumor cells and the time when the tumor cells become infectious and produce new virus particles. Several types of viruses are used in virotherapy and the delay varies with the type of virus. This delay can play an important role in the success of virotherapy. Our present study is to explore the impact of this delay in cancer virotherapy through a mathematical model based on delay differential equations. The partial success of virotherapy is guarenteed when one gets a stable non-trivial equilibrium with a low level of tumor cells. There exits Hopf-bifurcation by considering the delay as bifurcation parameter. We have estimated the length of delay which preserves the stability of the non-trivial equilibrium point. So when the delay is less than a threshold value, we can predict partial success of virotherapy for suitable sets of parameters. Here numerical simulations are also performed to support the analytical findings.

  • The solid state cesium ion source os alumino-silicate based zeolite which contains cerium. The material is an ionic conductor. Cesiums are stably stored in the material and one can extract the cesiums by applying electric field across the electrolyte. Cesium ion bombardment has the unique property of producing high negative ion yield. This ion source is used as the primary source for the production of a negative ion without any gas discharge or the need for a carrier gas. The deposition of materials as an ionic species in the energy range of 1.0 to 300eV is recently recognized as a very promising new thin film technique. This energetic non-thermal equilibrium deposition process produces films by “Kinetic Bonding / Energetic Condensation" mechansim not governed by the common place thermo-mechanical reaction. Under these highly non-equilibrium conditions meta-stable materials are realized and the negative ion is considered to be an optimum paeticle or tool for the purpose. This process differs fundamentally from the conventional ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) technique such that the ion beam energy transfer to the deposition process is directly coupled the process. Since cesium ion beam sputter deposition process is forming materials with high kinetic energy of metal ion beams, the process provider following unique advantages:(1) to synthesize non thermal-equilibrium materials, (2) to form materials at lower processing temperature than used for conventional chemical of physical vapor deposition, (3) to deposit very uniform, dense, and good adhesive films (4) to make higher doposition rate, (5) to control the ion flux and ion energy independently. Solid state cesium ion beam sputter deposition system has been developed. This source is capable of producing variety of metal ion beams such as C, Si, W, Ta, Mo, Al, Au, Ag, Cr etc. Using this deposition system, several researches have been performed. (1) To produce superior quality amorphous diamond films (2) to produce carbon nitirde hard coatings(Carbon nitride is a new material whose hardness is comparable to the diamond and also has a very high thermal stability.) (3) to produce cesiated amorphous diamond thin film coated Si surface exhibiting negative electron affinity characteristics. In this presentation, the principles of solid state cesium ion beam sputter deposition and several applications of negative metal ion source will be introduced.

  • Form-Finding of tensegrity structures by eigenvalue problem is presented, In ardor to maintain the structures stable, "Form-Finding" should be performed. The types of analytical methods are known to solve this phenomenon: One is to use force density method, and the other is to apply so called, generalized inverse method. In this paper, new form finding methods are presented to obtain the self-equilibrium stress of the tensegrity structures. This method is based on the equilibrium equation of the all of the joint and the governing equation is formulated as eigonvalue problem. In order to verify this approach, numerical example(tensegrity structures) are compared with others calculated by previous methods. The solution by present method is shown identical results. Furthermore, the developed process to find the results is more efficient than previous approaches.

  • There are several meterorolgical stresses in the winter cereal crops. Among these stresses, cold injury is one of the most important stresses for wheat and barley production in Korea. The reduction in grain yield of the wheat and barley due to cold injury has occurred almost every year in Korea. The objective of the study was to get the basic information in relation to the cold injury and to detect the method minimizing the damage of cold injury. When the air temperature was the ranges of -13$^{\circ}C$ to -15$^{\circ}C$, the soil temperature at the crown part of the plant was very stable, whereas in the ranges of -2$^{\circ}C$ to -3$^{\circ}C$ the soil surface temperature was more unstable and cold than air and subterranean temperatures. The different parts of the plant in wheat and barley possess the different levels of cold hardiness. In comparison to the cold hardiness of plant parts, the leaf and crown are the less sensitive to cold injury than root and vascular transitional zone. The type and extent of stress is determined by the redistribution pattern of water during freezing. These types from freezing processes were three types: a) Equilibrium freezing pattern b) Non -equilibrium freezing pattern, c) Non-equilibrium freezing pattern typical of tender tissues. Cold hardiness in wheat plants were more harder than barley plants at vegitative stage, but inverted at the reproductive stage. Injuries by low temperature during the seasons of barley cultivation in Korea were occured mainly in four stage; in the first and third stage, frost injury occurs, the second stage, freezing injury, and the fourth stage, chilling injury.

  • A series of talus slope stability analyses were carried out using 2D FEM and 3D limit equilibrium methods for this study. The FEM analyses on Phase 2 were performed to delineate failure depths based on stress distributions for each slope. The results revealed that the failure surface exist in the colluvium layer of about 3-10 m thickness. Three dimensional models, derived from the FEM analyses and geological field survey, were made for the use in a 3D limit equilibrium analysis. The result shows that all the talus slopes are stable under dry condition, but unstable under saturated condition due to heavy rain.
