This paper deals with certain conditions under which irreducibility of a 3-manifold is preserved under attaching a 2-handle along a simple closed curve (and then, if necessary, capping off a 2-sphere boundary component by a 3-ball).

Several different techniques currently exist for measuring display view angle performance. These include conoscopes, goniometric systems, and, most recently introduced to the market, instruments based on Imaging Sphere technology. This paper will compare measurement accuracy and speed of these various methodologies with different FPD types and even 3-D displays.

We show that an n-dimensional unit sphere in the 2n-dimensional de Sitter space can be associated to a solution of a partial differential equation on a Lorentzian Grassmannian system coming from the integrable system theory.

본 논문은 송신에 이용되는 활성 송신 안테나와 송신 심볼을 이용해 정보를 전송하는 일반화 공간 변조 시스템에서 송신/수신 순서화를 결합하여 기존의 구복호 수신기보다 낮은 계산 복잡도를 갖는 수신 방식을 제안한다. 제안 수신기는 수신 순서화를 통해 수신 신호 연산을 최적의 순서로 수행하여 구 밖의 후보해에 대한 연산을 조기에 종료함으로써 계산량을 줄인다. 또한, 송신 순서화 방식을 적용하여 심볼과 활성 송신 안테나 탐색에서 해일 확률이 높은 후보 해부터 탐색을 수행하여 계산량을 낮추도록 한다. 모의실험을 통해 송신/수신 순서화를 적용한 제안 구복호 수신기가 기존 구복호 기법, 수신 순서화만 적용한 구복호 기법과 비교하여 동일한 비트오류율 성능을 유지하면서 더 낮은 계산 복잡도를 가짐을 확인하였다.

본 논문에서는 마이크로 CT 영상에서 해면뼈의 형태학적 분석을 위하여 해면뼈를 자동 분할하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법에서는 임계값을 이용하여 뼈 영역을 추출하고 뼈의 바깥쪽 경계선을 검출한다. 뼈 영역의 각 복셀에 대하여 구 정합을 적용하여 해당 복셀을 중심으로 하는 최대 크기의 구를 구한다. 이 구에 뼈의 바깥쪽 경계선이 포함되면 이 구에 포함된 복셀들은 치밀뼈로 분류되고 그렇지 않으면 해면뼈로 분류된다. 제안된 방법을 쥐의 15개 대퇴골 원위부 영상에 적용하였으며 사람이 수작업으로 분할한 결과와 비교 실험을 수행하였다. 분할된 해면뼈에 대하여 BV/TV, Tb.Th, Tb.Sp, Tb.N의 네 가지 형태학적 지표자를 측정하였다. 회귀분석과 Bland-Altman 방법으로 비교해본 결과 BV/TV, Tb.Th, Tb.Sp, Tb.N 모두 신뢰할 만한 수준의 범위 안에 있었다. 또한 구 정합 방법은 단순하게 구현할 수 있으면서도 3차원 정보를 이용함으로써 해면뼈를 정확하게 분할할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Numerical simulations of laminar flow over a sphere are conducted to investigate the effect of the Reynolds number on the characteristics of vortex shedding. The Reynolds numbers considered are between 300 and 475, covering unsteady planar-symmetric and asymmetric flows. Results show that the unsteady planar-symmetric flow can be categorized into two different regimes: single-frequency regime and multiple-frequency regime. The former has a single frequency component due to periodic shedding of the vortices with the same strength in every shedding cycle, while the latter has multiple frequency components due to cycle-to-cycle variation in the strength of shed vortices with the shedding angle fixed. The multiple-frequency planar-symmetric flow, which is newly found in the present study, occurs at Re=330${\sim}$360 between the single-frequency planar-symmetric flow and the asymmetric flow. On the other hand, the asymmetric flow occurs at Re${\geq}$365, where the vortices shed from the sphere show variation both in strength and shedding angle unlike the planar-symmetric flow. Also, it is shown that the breaking of planar symmetry is closely related to the imbalance of vortical strength between a pair of streamwise vortices.

본 연구에서는 동서양 수학사에서 다양한 방식으로 취급된 구의 부피 측도에 대해 고찰한다. 서양수학사에서 발견되는 아르키메데스, 카발리에리, 케플러의 방법에 대비하여, 동양수학사에서 구장산술, 유휘, 조충지와 조긍의 방법, 그리고 조선시대 산학서에서 다루어진 방법에 대해 알아본다. 나아가 이러한 역사적 고찰 결과를 수학 및 수학교육적 관점에서 조명한다. 특히 현행 교과서 및 교수 실제상의 문제 제기로부터 교재 구성을 위한 대안을 모색해본다.
