Effect of herbal extracts on bone regeneration in a rat calvaria defect model and screening system

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of herbal extracts on bone regeneration. Two known samples were screened. Materials and Methods: We previously established a rat calvaria defect model using a combination of collagen scaffold and herbal extracts. An 8 mm diameter trephine bur with a low-speed dental hand piece was used to create a circular calvaria defect. The experimental group was divided into 4 classifications: control, collagen matrix, Danshen with collagen, and Ge Gan with collagen. Animals in each group were sacrificed at 4, 6, 8, and 10 weeks after surgery, and bone regeneration ability was evaluated by histological examination. Results: Results revealed that both Danshen and Ge Gan extracts increased bone formation activity when used with collagen matrix. All groups showed almost the same histological findings until 6 weeks. However, after 6 weeks, bone formation activity proceeded differently in each group. In the experimental groups, new bone formation activity was found continuously up to 10 weeks. In the Danshen and Ge Gan groups, grafted materials were still present until 10 weeks after treatment, as evidenced by foreign body reactions showing multinucleated giant cells in chronic inflammatory vascular connective tissue. Conclusion: Histological analyses showed that Danshen and Ge Gan extractions increased bone formation activity when used in conjunction with collagen matrix.

An Operating Software Development of A Prototype Coronagraph for The Total Solar Eclipse in 2017

  • We develop a coronagraph to measure the coronal electron density, temperature, and speed by observing the linearly polarized brightness of solar corona with 4 different wavelengths. Through the total solar eclipse on 21 August 2017, we test an operating software of a prototype coronagraph working with two sub-systems of two motorized filter wheels and a CCD camera that are controlled by a portable embedded computer. A Core Flight System (CFS) is a reusable software framework and set of reusable software applications which take advantage of a rich heritage of successful space mission of NASA. We use the CFS software framework to develop the operating software that can control the two sub-systems asynchronously in an observation scenario and communicate with a remote computer about commands, housekeeping data through Ethernet. The software works successfully and obtains about 160 images of 12 filter sets (4 bandpass filters and 3 polarization angles) during the total phase of the total solar eclipse. For the future, we can improve the software reliability by testing the software with a sufficient number of test cases using a testing framework COSMOS. The software will be integrated into the coronagraph for balloon-borne experiments in 2019.

중앙구동 이젝터의 설계변수에 따른 유동특성 (Flow Characteristics of Central-Driven Ejector with Design Parameters)

  • 본 논문은 중앙구동 이젝터의 유량비에 미치는 설계변수의 영향에 대한 연구를 목적으로 한다. 중앙구동 이젝터의 설계변수는 구동노즐 출구 단면적 및 거리비, 디퓨저 출구 단면적비로 설정하였다. 실험장치는 가변노즐 이젝터, 전동 모터-펌프, 구동유체 저장수조, 제어판넬 그리고 고속 카메라 시스템으로 구성하였다. 유량비는 실험변수에 따라 측정되는 유입 공기량과 구동유체인 물의 유량을 이용하여 도출하였다. 유량비는 구동노즐 거리비와 혼합관 길이비가 커지면 증가하는 반면에, 구동노즐 면적비와 디퓨저 출구 면적비가 커지면 감소하였다.

  • 분산 비디오 부호화 기법은 우수한 비트율-왜곡 성능을 달성하기 위해 패리티 비트 제어용으로 피드백 채널을 필요로 하고 있다. 그러나 이 방법은 분산 비디오 부호화기법에서 매우 높은 복호화 지연을 야기한다. 실시간 환경에 구현하고 상용화를 촉진하기 위해서, 많은 연구가 고속 복호화 알고리즘 개발에 집중되어 오고 있다. 실시간 구현의 한 방법으로서 본 논문에서는 복호화기에서 부호화기측으로 움직임 정보와 같은 부호화 통계 특성을 제공할 수 있는 응용 환경에 적합한 새로운 분산 비디오 부호화 기법을 다룬다. 즉, 본 논문에서는 보조 정보 생성시에 얻어지는 움직임 정보를 피드백함으로써 복호화 속도를 개선하기 위한 고속 분산 복호화 방식을 제안한다. 모의실험을 통하여, 제안 방식은 기존의 고속 분산 복호화 방식들 보다 우수함을 보인다.

전신진동운동이 20대 성인남녀의 슬관절 근기능과 근반응성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Muscle Function and Muscular Reaction of Knee Joint in the Twenties on the Whole Body Vibration Exercise)

  • This study investigated the effect of whole-body vibration on muscle function and muscular reaction in the knee joint. We recruited thirty healthy subjects and divided them into a training group, who experienced whole-body vibration, and a control group, who did not. The training group performed whole-body vibration exercises for 30 min per day, 3 days a week, for 8 weeks. We measured knee joint torque to estimate muscle strength and reaction, using BIODEX System 3. Knee joint peak torque and total work performed increased significantly in the training group, and muscle acceleration time decreased. These results suggest that stimulation by whole-body vibration can improve muscle strength and reaction by improving muscle tone and increasing blood temperature and flow speed in muscular fiber. Our results also indicate that 4 weeks of exercise with whole-body vibration is required to improve the reaction response, and six weeks to improve strength.

TOC와 통계적 분석에 의한 플라스틱보트 제조공정 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Plastic Boat Manufacturing Process Using TOC & Statistical Analysis)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the problems and the sources of defective products and draw improvement plans in a small plastic boat manufacturing process using TOC (Theory Of Constraints) and statistical analysis. TOC is a methodology to present a scheme for optimization of production process by finding the CCR (Capacity Constraints Resource) in the organization or the all production process through the concentration improvement activity. In this paper, we found and reformed constraints and bottlenecks in plastic boat manufacturing process in the target company for less defect ratio and production cost by applying DBR (Drum, Buffer, Rope) scheduling. And we set the threshold values for the critical process variables using statistical analysis. The result can be summarized as follows. First, CCRs in inventory control, material mix, and oven setting were found and solutions were suggested by applying DBR method. Second, the logical thinking process was utilized to find core conflict factors and draw solutions. Third, to specify the solution plan, experiment data were statistically analyzed. Data were collected from the daily journal addressing the details of 96 products such as temperature, humidity, duration and temperature of heating process, rotation speed, duration time of cooling, and the temperature of removal process. Basic statistics and logistic regression analysis were conducted with the defection as the dependent variable. Finally, critical values for major processes were proposed based on the analysis. This paper has a practical importance in contribution to the quality level of the target company through theoretical approach, TOC, and statistical analysis. However, limited number of data might depreciate the significance of the analysis and therefore it will be interesting further research direction to specify the significant manufacturing conditions across different products and processes.

A Study on Loading Arm Envelope and Alarm Setting according to Ship Movement

  • This study was carried using the new approach method to design appropriately the Loading Arm length and the alarm setting according to ship movements on Loading and Unloading marine Berth. The quasi-static mooring analysis was performed to estimate 110,000DWT ship's movements based on environmental conditions such as wind, current and wave. The mooring motion of the ship is very important to determine the loading arm scope, and in this case, the operation condition is performed on the ship without considering the damaged condition of the mooring line because the ship movement in case of damage is larger than intact, and all operations are stopped, the loading arm being released due to control system. From the result of mooring analysis, motion displacements, velocities and accelerations were simulated. They were used to simulate the maximum drifting speeds and distances. The maximum drifting speeds were checked to be satisfied within drifting speed limits. The total maximum drifting distances were simulated with alarm steps of the new approach method. Finally, the loading arm envelopes using the total maximum drifting distances were completed. Therefore, it was confirmed that the new approach method for loading arm envelopes and alarm settings was appropriate from the above results. In the future, it will be necessary to perform the further advanced dynamic mooring analysis instead of the quasi-static mooring analysis and to use the precise computer program analysis for various environments and ship movement conditions.

  • 본 논문에서는 u-TSN 서비스 제공을 위한 통신모듈의 구현과 성능 평가를 통해 u-TSN 서비스와 지능형 교통 시스템 및 인포테인먼트의 구현 가능성을 확인한다. 통신모듈은 IEEE 802.11a와 11g 기반으로 구현되었고 차량장치와 노변장치에 이용된다. 실제 도로환경에서 개발된 시스템은 최대 약 15Mbps, 원거리 고속 이동상황에서 10Mbps의 데이터 전송율을 나타내었다. 이는 u-TSN 서비스 중 교통흐름 제어를 위한 통신용량을 충분히 수용할 수 있는 수준이다.

열차 운행 중인 기관사의 각성상태 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study Concerning Analysis of Arousal State of locomotive Engineering During Operating Train)

  • The study for the passenger's comfortableness of vehicles and the arousal of car drivers has been done widely. On the other hand, there are few studies for the locomotive engineers. Human error means that the mistakes made by human, recently it receives attention in the field of safety engineering and human engineering. Comparing the operating condition of train with car, because of the simplification of the visual stimulus, the arousal level on the train goes down easily. The arousal level down makes judgement down, the accident risk from human error is getting bigger. In this study, we measured bio-signals(ECG, EDA, PPG, respiration and EEG) from 6 locomotive engineers to evaluate their arousal state while they operated the train. Also we recorded the 3 axes acceleration signal showing the vibration state of train. Also, the existence of tunnels were simultaneously measured. At the station section where the train speed goes down, the size of vector's sum decreases because of reduced vibration. Beta component in EEG tends to increase at the entering point of each station and tunnel. It is due to the arousal reaction and tension growth. The mean SCR(skin conductance response) was more increased in neutral section. As the button control movement (body movement) increases in the neutral section, it is appeared that SCR increase. RR interval tends to gradually increase during train operation for 1 hour 40 minutes. However, It tends to sharply decrease at the stop station because strong concentration needed to stop train on the exact point. The engineer's arousal reaction can be checked through analysing the bio-signal change during train operation. Therefore, if this analysing result is adopted to the sleepiness prevention caution system, it will be useful for the safety train operation.

전기자동차 충전 효율성을 고려한 모바일 에지 컴퓨팅 기반 충전 인프라 구조 (Mobile Edge Computing based Charging Infrastructure considering Electric Vehicle Charging Efficiency)

  • 화석 연료의 고갈 및 환경오염의 증가로 인하여 전기 에너지를 사용하는 전기 자동차가 차세대 교통수단으로 주목받고 있으며 전 세계적으로 인기를 끌고 있다. 전기 자동차의 보급률 및 관심이 높아짐에 따라 V2G (Vehicle to Grid) 및 IT 기술을 이용한 충전 인프라에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 특히, 전기 자동차의 안정적인 충전 및 부하 관리를 위하여 그리드 네트워크와의 통신은 가장 중요한 요소이다. 그러나 기존의 중앙 집중형 인프라 구조의 경우 제어 메시지 요청이 증가할 경우 느린 응답속도로 인하여 충전 인프라가 효율적으로 작동하지 못하는 문제점들이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 분산형 클라우드 컴퓨팅 기술을 무선 기지국에 적용하여 충전 인프라에 혼잡을 줄이고 지연시간을 줄이기 위해 MEC (Mobile Edge Computing)를 활용한 새로운 전기자동차 충전 인프라 구조를 제안한다. 성능 평가를 통해 본 논문에서 제안한 저 지연시간을 가지는 충전 인프라가 기존에 존재하는 충전 인프라보다 효율적으로 전력 피크 상황에 대처함을 확인하였다.
