A Hydroacoustic Survey Analyzing Fish Populations and Their Distribution Upstream and Downstream of Changzhou Dam, China, Based on Spillway Conditions (중국 Changzhou댐의 방수로 운용에 따른 어류밀도와 분포에 관한 음향조사)

  • Hydroacoustic surveys were performed to clarify the density and spatial distribution of fish upstream and downstream of Changzhou Dam in the Pearl River, China, with regard to the condition of the spillways. Fish were densely distributed in the forebay of the upstream dam and the average fish density was 0.22 individuals/$m^3$ under open spillways on 24 June 2010, but when the spillways were closed on 25 June 2010, the fish in the upstream dam dispersed and the average fish density decreased to 0.007 individuals/$m^3$. Meanwhile, the average fish density in the downstream region was 0.28 individuals/$m^3$ before the spillway was opened on 24 May 2010, but it decreased to 0.08 individuals/$m^3$ on 26 June, just after the spillway was closed. The vertical distribution of fish upstream of the dam was not consistent. The target strength (TS) of fish upstream of the dam was larger than that of fish in the downstream region, although the distribution of TS was similar between the upstream and downstream regions. Therefore, we concluded that while numerous fish could swim to the upstream region while the spillways were open, closed spillways obstructed fish migrating upward from the downstream region.

Unconscious Response Characteristics of Pupils in the Observation toward to Spatial Image (공간이미지를 향한 주시에 나타난 동공의 무의식적 반응 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to examined the unconscious response of the pupil in the observation toward the image in the eye-tracking experiments that target on a large complex cultural space. Twenty-five men participated in this experiment and the observation data were analyzed in seconds per minute on watching time. It could examine the unconscious response of information searching in the change of pupil size in the process of observing the space. The results could be defined as following several points. First, it was possible to outline the unconscious response characteristics of pupil by analyzing sudden changes in pupil size as total, cumulative, and individual. The response characteristics using frequency and time can be utilized as the analytical method to examine the degree of interest of spatial components according to the purpose of analysis in the future. Second, according to the over ${\pm}5%$ of cumulative variation rate on the pupil size change, during in the 60 seconds, the continuous pupil dilation was used 25.2 seconds in 8.8 rounds and the pupil reduction was used 18.0 seconds in 7.0 rounds. Third, when the variation rate of ${\pm}5%$ or more was regarded as the sudden changes on pupil size by individual variation, the pupil dilation was 7.2 rounds of 8.6 seconds and pupil reduction was 6.0 seconds in 5.0 rounds. This means that the pupil increases 9.3% in one expansion and decreases -8.5% in the reduction process. As regarding pupil changes as cumulative rate, it appeared high change rate on pupil reduction but it became higher on pupil dilation in individual.

  • Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has been employed in various fields due to its capability to generate high resolution images regardless of weather and visibility. This paper presents a performance analysis on the image formation of high resolution SAR according to various slant range distance and synthetic aperture lengths using a range migration algorithm simulator. Although the visual performance on the SAR image is more accurate, a numeric analysis resulted in a comparable measurement. More specifically, raw data were generated for an ideal point target upon imaging geometries and design parameters such as slant range distance and synthetic aperture lengths. Finally, spatial resolution, peak to sidelobe ratio and integrated sidelobe ratio are drawn to provide SAR capabilities in the initial concept design, final in-flight calibration and validation stages.

  • Passive sonar system forms the various beams in any desired directions to obtain the improvement in Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio, bearing detection and localization of targets, and the attenuation of interferences from other directions. The improvement of beamforming is very important to detect modern underwater targets as noise reduction technology leads to considerably low-level acoustic emissions in the long range in complex environmental sea. In this paper, we proposed the spatial cross correlation beamforming (SCCBF) algorithm using cross correlation matrix of individual hydrophone pairs of linear array sensors. By the theoretical analysis and simulation, the proposed SCCBF is demonstrated that its performances compared to conventional beamforming (CBF) output can be obtain above 3dB of array gain and about half of beam width represented the bearing accuracy in target detection. Also, this paper presents sea test result of linear passive sonar system that the proposed algorithm implemented.

Distribution and Abundance of Japanese Anchovy Engraulis japonicus and Other Fishes in Asan Bay, Korea, estimated Hydroacoustic Survey (수산음향기법을 이용한 아산만 멸치(Engraulis japonicus)와 기타어군의 분포 및 현존량 추정)

  • The distribution and abundance of coastal fish species in Asan Bay, Korea, were estimated from hydroacoustic survey and net catches. Acoustic data were collected with 38 and 200 kHz from July to October of 2012, and converted to the nautical area scattering coefficient (NASC, $m^2/mile^2$) for $0.25n{\cdot}mile$ along ten transects. Japanese anchovy Engraulis japonicus was the dominant specie in the net catches. The virtual echogram technique was used to distinguish E. japonicus from other species based on the differences in the mean volume backscattering strength (${\Delta}MVBS$) at 38 and 200 kHz. Engraulis japonicus and other fishes are mainly distributed in the center channel and outer part of Asan Bay. E. japonicus tends to move from inner to outer Asan Bay in summer and fall. From NASC data, the target strength and length-weight function of E. japonicus and other fishes were used to estimate the E. japonicus stock at 24.1-93.3 tons, and other fish at 40.6-88.4 tons from July to October 2012. The estimated anchovy biomass compared well with the cumulative catch weight from stow net catches. The hydroacoustic method offers an approach to understanding spatial/temporal structure and estimating the biomass of fish aggregations in coastal areas.

  • For a target echo containing interference, it is very difficult to improve the performance of a monopulse radar with spatial domain processing, because the statistical property of interference cannot be exclusively obtained. This paper proposes a monopulse system that has a generalized sidelobe canceller(GSC) filter-based time domain processor as a preprocessor prior to conventional monopulse spatial processing. We analytically show the procedure of time-space signal processing running in the system, and assess its performance through simulation. In particular, the performance dependence on the number of taps in the main channel filter and the estimation error in Doppler frequency are assessed by comparison with those of existing systems.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the methodologies, using GIS techniques, to appraise the parcel prices and to estimate the compensation expenditures according to road expansions. This study consists of 2 parts. The first pare is to find out the ways for appraisal of patrol prices in certain area by the publicly announced land prices. The second part is to estimate the differences of compensation expenditures according to road expansion methods. The conclusions are as follows. First, to appraise the target parcel prices, a comparison to the publicly announced land prices should be used. For this, 19 items of land characteristics of existing land information should be analyzed and compared using GIS techniques. Second, the compensation expenditure could be easily estimated using GIS techniques too. In this process, if necessary, we have to apply the minimum parcel size in Building Codes.

  • In this research, the operational principle and the internal algorithm of theodolite measuring systems are studied and coded for a new software, and the feasibility of the laser system for the above mentioned usage is studied by simulation set-up of the system in the laboratory environment, and for the theodolite system modules for the communication between theodolite and computer is implemented, the data collection and storage, the simultaneous photogrammetric ' bundle ' adjustment for the theodolite position and the target points are coded, compiled and tested. for the simulation set-up of the laser system extensive studies on laser sources and laser detectors are performed, the system composition for the system simulation in the laboratory environment is studied and implemented, and the beam fluctuation due to the environmental changes in the course of the laser beam, such as changes in current of wind or in temperature is experimented. According to Experiment on the Source of 17 meters interval and the Detector, Laser beam is almost doesn't depend on air How, but it is effected by variations of temperature and light. Selecting cloudy day and time without change of temperature, it was realized that it is possible to perform deformation measurement more than approximately 2mm precision.precision.

Calculation of low flow for estimating TMDL (허용 부하량 산정을 위한 저수유량 산정 방안)

  • The low fow analysis for small-mid sized river basins is very difficult because of insufficient flow data or ungauged basins. The objective of this study is to suggest effective method of low flow using area function method for calculating Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDL) by considering environmental carrying capacity. Two watersheds which are Juchon watershed having $606km^2$ areas and ungauged watershed having $4,551km^2$ areas were selected for this study. As a result of application, the low flow in the downstream of Juchon River and the Han River after confluence of Okdong River were $1.9m^3/s$ and $20.7m^3/s$, respectively. Then we consider the target BOD of 1.0-1.2mg/l in Youngwol prefecture, the TDML was estimated 164-197kg/day and 1,788-2,146kg/day, respectively. This approach will useful for estimating TDML to insufficient watershed of flow data and ungauged watershed of flow data.

  • In Web2.0 environment, with advanced platform technologies, global vendors such as Google, Microsoft and Yahoo provide competitive geospatial services based on global map and satellite image. But the relatively low level of platform technologies has not rapidly increased the land information and geospatial service markets in Korea. For the ubiquitous next generation Internet, as a one of the R&D projects by Korean Land Spatialization Group, the project for platform technologies has being made to provide customized land information and geospatial service. The platform technologies can be categorized for streamming, mashup and geosearch. More specifically, the 2D/3D Hybird streamming engine, mashup engine for u-GIS service and next generation search engine for land information have being developed. In this context, the strategies for efficient development and use of geoweb platform technologies are required. This study surveys the present geospatial products and services using of platform technologies to propose the strategies for efficient development and use of platform technologies. The strategies for efficient development and use of platform technologies can be proposed focusing on target market and each of platform technologies.
