  • Main researching issue in affective computing is to give a machine the ability to recognize the emotion of a person and to react it properly. Efforts in that direction have mainly focused on facial and oral cues to get emotions. Postures have been recently considered as well. This paper aims to discriminate emotions posture by identifying and measuring the saliency of posture features that play a role in affective expression. To do so, affective postures from human subjects are first collected using a motion capture system, then emotional features in posture are described with spatial ones. Through standard statistical techniques, we verified that there is a statistically significant correlation between the emotion intended by the acting subjects, and the emotion perceived by the observers. Discriminant Analysis are used to build affective posture predictive models and to measure the saliency of the proposed set of posture features in discriminating between 6 basic emotional states. The evaluation of proposed features and models are performed using a correlation between actor-observer's postures set. Quantitative experimental results show that proposed set of features discriminates well between emotions, and also that built predictive models perform well.

  • This study has tried to develop the modified DRASTIC Model by supplying the parameters, such as structural lineament density and land-use, into conventional DRASTIC model, and to predict the potential of groundwater contamination using GIS in Hwanam 2 District, Gyeonggi Province, Korea. Since the aquifers in Korea is generally through the joints of rock-mass in hydrogeological environment, lineament density affects to the behavior of groundwater and contaminated plumes directly, and land-use reflect the effect of point or non-point source of contamination indirectly. For the statistical analysis, lattice-layers of each parameter were generated, and then level of confidence was assessed by analyzing each correlation coefficient. Groundwater contamination potential map was achieved as a final result by comparing modified DRASTIC potential and the amount of pollutant load logically. The result suggest the predictability of contamination potential in a specified area in the respects of hydrogeological aspect and water quality.

  • Recently the high-resolution satellite images are helpfully using the land cover, status data for the natural resources or environment management. The effective satellite analysis process for these satellite images that require high investment can be increase the effectiveness has become increasingly important. In this Study, the statistical value of the training data is calculated and analyzed during the preprocessing. Also, that is explained about the maximum likelihood classification of traditional classification method, artificial neural network (ANN) classification method and Support Vector Machines(SVM) classification method and then the IKONOS high-resolution satellite imagery was produced the land cover map using each classification method. Each result data had to analyze the accuracy through the error matrix. The results of this study prove that SVM classification method can be good alternative of the total accuracy of about 86% than other classification method.

  • In order to control interference and improve spectrum efficiency in the femtocell and macrocell overlaid system (FMOS), we propose a joint frequency bandwidth dynamic division, clustering and power control algorithm (JFCPA) for orthogonal-frequency-division-multiple access-based downlink FMOS. The overall system bandwidth is divided into three bands, and the macro-cellular coverage is divided into two areas according to the intensity of the interference from the macro base station to the femtocells, which are dynamically determined by using the JFCPA. A cluster is taken as the unit for frequency reuse among femtocells. We map the problem of clustering to the MAX k-CUT problem with the aim of eliminating the inter-femtocell collision interference, which is solved by a graph-based heuristic algorithm. Frequency bandwidth sharing or splitting between the femtocell tier and the macrocell tier is determined by a step-migration-algorithm-based power control. Simulations conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm showed the frequency-reuse probability of the FMOS reuse band above 97.6% and at least 70% of the frequency bandwidth available for the macrocell tier, which means that the co-tier and the cross-tier interference were effectively controlled. Thus, high spectrum efficiency was achieved. The simulation results also clarified that the planning of frequency resource allocation in FMOS should take into account both the spatial density of femtocells and the interference suffered by them. Statistical results from our simulations also provide guidelines for actual FMOS planning.

  • When investigating the damage of a forest fire, quite a few are depending on the naked eye observation. However, if the damage spreads to another area, it is easy to use the satellite images because it is hard to reach all the damaged areas on foot. From this research, we did a statistical interpretation of after fire using satellite image data to classify the damage on first and second factor analysis. As a result, it was more easier to classify the river's plants and ridges between rice fields that were in the forest fire damage area in the second observation then the first observation. Also, we could classify the area by areas that were damaged more or less using the second factor analysis. To verify this, we used the forest fire images collected from the satellite images and the actual survey data collected from spectral radiometer to see if these two datawere correlated and as a result we found out that they were highly involved.

  • The present study aims to evaluate the characteristics of atmospheric polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) pollution in roadside and residential areas of two Korean metropolitan cities (Seoul and Incheon) and a background area (Seokmolee). This purpose was established by analyzing temporal and spacial concentration distribution of total and 7 individual PAHs, which were extracted from ambient particulate matters, and by utilizing a multivariate statistical method (principal component analysis, PCA) for the qualitative determination of potential PAH sources. Target PAHs included benzo(a)anthracene (BaA), benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), benzo(b)fluoranthene (BbF), benzo(k)fluoranthene (BkF), chrysene (Chr), dibenzo(a,h)anthracene (DahA), and indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene (IcdP). For all surveyed sites, the concentrations of total PAHs were higher in winter season than in other seasons. However, the concentrations of individual PAHs varied with surveyed sites. In both residential and roadside sites of Seoul and Incheon, BbF revealed the highest atmospheric levels. For all 7 target PAHs, the ambient concentrations were higher in Seoul and Incheon than in a background area (Seokmolee). In both residential and roadside areas, the concentrations of 4 target PAHs (BaA, BbF, BkF, DahA) were higher in Incheon than in Seoul. However, both the residential and roadside Chr concentrations were comparable in Seoul and Incheon. In addition, the residential IcdP concentrations were higher in Incheon than in Seoul, whereas the roadside concentrations were higher in Seoul. The roadside and residential BaP concentrations exhibited the reverse result to the IcdP concentrations. An PCA analysis suggested that atmospheric PAHs in both residential and roadside areas would be due to combined effects of several potential sources such as gasoline- and diesel-fueled vehicles, coal/oil combustion, and waste incineration.

  • The economic reform in China since 1978 has been increasingly sped up and deepened. The recent development of private enterprises, especially, has significant economic and political implications, whereas its regional differentiation has considerable impacts on both the development potential of certain regions and overall regional growth pattern. This study aims to understand the regional pattern of private enterprise growth as well as the institutional change which has structured the growth process. The development of private enterprises turned out to be closely tied to the marketization strategy of dual-track system and policy needs to reduce the unemployment level in both urban and 겨ral China. The regional pattern of the private enterprise growth can be characterized as ever-increasing spatial differentiation. Based on the basic statistical analysis results, it is argued that the private enterprise growth is closed related with the marketization level of the regional economy. Therefore, the strategy of developing private sector will be more important in shaping the regional development path as well as potential.

  • Significant costs to the public and private sectors due to recent extreme wind events have motivated the need for systematic post-hurricane damage data collection and analysis. Current post disaster data are collected by many different interested groups such as government agencies, voluntary disaster relief agencies, representatives of media companies, academicians and companies in the private sector. Each group has an interest in a particular type of data. However, members of each group collect data using different techniques. This disparity in data is not conducive to quantifying damage data and, therefore, inhibits the statistical and spatial description of damage and comparisons of damage among different extreme wind events. The data collection does not allow comparisons of data or results of analyses within a group and also prohibits comparison of damage data and information among different groups. Typically, analyses of data from a given event lead to different conclusion depending upon the definition of damage used by individual investigators and the type of data collected making it difficult for members of groups to compare the results of their analyses with a common language and basis. A formal method of data collection and analysis-within any single group-would allow comparisons to be made among different individuals, hazardous events and eventually among different groups, thus facilitating the management and reduction of damage due to future disaster. This research introduces a definition of damage to single family dwellings, and a common method of data collection and analysis suited for groups interested in regional characterization of damage. The current state-of-data is presented and a method for data collection is recommended based on these existing data collection methods. A fixed-scale damage index is proposed to consider the damage to a dwelling's feature. Finally, the damage index is applied to three dwellings damaged by Hurricane Iniki (1992). The damage index reflects the reduced functionality of a structure as a single family detached dwelling and provides a means to evaluate regional damage due to a single event or to compare damage due to events of different severity. Evaluation of the damage index and the data available support recommendation for future data collection efforts.

  • This paper presents a new shadow testing acceleration scheme for ray tracing called Hybrid Shadow Testing (HST) based on a conditional switching between the conventinal shadow testing method and Crow's shadow volume method, where the shadow polygons as well as the object polygons are registered onto the corresponding cells under the 3-D space subdivision environment. Despite the preprocessing time for the generation and registration of the shadow polygons, the total shadow testing time of the proposed algorithm, HST was approximately 50% of that of the conventional shadow testing method for several examples while the total ray tracing time was typically reduced by 30% from the conventional approach. This due to the selective use of the shadow volume method with a compromise between the maximal utilisation of shadow's spatial coherency and minimising the computational overhead for checking ray intersections with the shadow polygons. A parameter, $N_{th}$ denoting the critical number of shadow polygons between successive reflection points was used as a guideline for switching the shadow testing scheme between the conventional method and shadow volume method. A method for calculating $N_{th}$ from such statistical data as the number of object polygons, average polygon size average peripheral length of the polygons was proposed, resulting in good agreement with the experimental results.
