  • Several methods have been used to treat androgenetic hair loss, ranging from hair transplants to finasteride and minoxidil. Sometimes platelet-rich plasma injection therapy may be used to increase the satisfaction of patients who come to the hospital. However, some patients are sensitive to pain and are subjected to the inconvenience of requiring treatment after each blood sampling. The author had reported the effects of using a hair growth-promoting solution and JetpeelTM in parallel with a painless hair loss treatment method. However, the author was interested in more effective methods for patients with M-shaped or vertex hair loss who do not want to take medications or undergo hair transplant. In addition to the existing light-emitting diode therapy and electromagnetic field treatment, the author has made considered attempts to use various laser wavelength bands. However, the equipment for these methods can be expensive and are not suitable for patients who emphasize on cost-effectiveness. Therefore, the author used an existing reported method and a device based on the fractional erbium:YAG laser to provide the hair growth-promoting solution in parallel. The author chose a fractional 2940 nm-based laser device as a medium that could efficiently increase the growth phase, reduce the catagen phase, and facilitate intradermal product and drug delivery. As a result, there was a therapeutic benefit without any significant side effects such as redness and itching. Among the patients, the author reported the effects of the treatment on one patient with frontal M-shaped, mid, and vertex hair loss.

  • We investigate the existence of solutions of the nonlinear biharmonic equation with variable coefficient polynomial growth nonlinear term and Dirichlet boundary condition. We get a theorem which shows that there exists a bounded solution and a large norm solution depending on the variable coefficient. We obtain this result by variational method, generalized mountain pass geometry and critical point theory.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of calcium concentrations in fertilizer solution on growth and cut flower quality of chrysanthemum 'Biarritz' To achieve this, deficiency symptom and growth characteristics as influenced by controlled Ca concentrations in fertilizer solution were investigated. The analysis of plant tissue and soil solution of root media were also conducted to secure optimum concentration for plant growth. Calcium deficiency developed on the very youngest leaves and the young leaves developed 'cupped' shape as they expand. The cut flower length of 0, 3.0 and 6.0 mM treatments were 105.8, 106.5, and 107.3cm, respectively. Elevated Ca concentration within the range from 0 to 6.0mM in fertilizer solution increased cut flower weight. The cut flower weight of control and 6.0mM treatment were 51.6 and 59.4 g, respectively. The tissue Ca content of 6.0mM treatment in which crops showed the highest growth among treatments was $3.09\%$ based on the dry weight of the youngest fully expanded leaves. From the results, it seems necessary to maintaining tissue Ca content higher than $2.8\%$. Soil Ca concentrations increased as K concentrations in fertilizer solution were elevated. Ca concentration in 0.0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0mM treatments were 5.0, 7.4, 12.1, 16.5 and $28.2mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$, respectively, at harvesting stage. It is suggested that Ca concentration higher than $25.4mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ in soil solution of root media is required to maintain normal growth.

  • This experiment was conducted to find out optimum substrate and concentration of nutrient solution for mass production of sweet basil by pot culture. Growth depending on concentration of nutrient solution was different to some extent; the growth of plants was usually better in one-fold and two-fold concentration of nutrient solution but three-fold one was poor. Plants grown in cocopeat showed better growth, but peatmoss gave an adverse effect. Sweet basil grown in substrate mixed with cocopeat and perlite (1:1, v:v) was highest in essential oil content. After all, cultural practice by one-fold concentration of herb nutrient solution in substrate mixed with cocopeat and perlite (1:1, v:v) was recommended for better growth and higher essential oil content of sweet basil.

  • Plant roots are affected by the root zone environment rather than substrate material itself. It is important to provide a suitable environment for the roots by amending the substrate and adjusting supply of the nutrient solution. In an expanded rice hull substrates, 1.5 L nutrient solution was supplied on each day at different frequency. In rice hull substrate, plant growth and yield were the greatest in the treatment where a 1.5L nutrient solution was supplied as 24 equal aliquots, wheres in perlite substrate plant growth and yield were the greatest in the treatment with 16 aliquots. Nitrogen deficiency symptoms caused by early decomposition of rice hulls by microorganisms was recovered by increasing solution EC from 1.7 to EC 2.0 dS.m$^{-1}$ for 25 days after planting. Plant growth and yield increased in the treatment of Ec 3.0 dS.m$^{-1}$ , but the cause for this increase is not clear.

  • The effects of pH of solution on structural, electrical, and optical properties of CdS thin films prepared by solution growth method were investigated. With increasing pH of the solution, both crystallinity and transmittance of CdS thin film were deteriorated due to impurities and CdS particles, which were produced by homogeneous nucleation and adsorbed on the surface of CdS thin films. The films were strongly adherent to substrates and has low resistivity of 10~$10^2{\omega}cm$ regrardless of deposition conditions. After annealing at 30$0^{\circ}C$ in Ar atmosphere, the resistivity decreased due to desorption of impurity ions as well as the formation of S vacancies, but after annealing above 35$0^{\circ}C$ it increased by an agglomeration of S vacancies. After annealing in air atmosphere, the film resistivity increased because of the formation of oxide particle in grain boundaries.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the growth response of 3 grasses to seed coating with chitosan solution and the attempt was made to estimate adequate seed coating concentrations of chitosan solution in each grass for the growth to be stimulated. Three species used in this experiment were orchardgrass, tall fescue and reed canarygrass. Six different seed coating concentrations of chitosan solution were applied as 0%(control), 0.01%, 0.05%, 0.1% and 1.0%, respectively. the results were obtained as follows; 1. Dry weight of tiller(WT), leaf area(LA), dry weight of leaf(LW), dry weight of stem(SW), dry weight of shoot(SHW), biological yield(BY) and C/F ratio were significantly different between species. 2. Number of tillers per plant(NT), dry weight of tiller(WT), dry weight of leaf(LW), dry weight of root(RW), dry weight of shoot(SHW), biological yield(BY) and T/R ration were significantly different between seed coating concentrations of chitosan solution. 3. The adequate seed coating concentrations of chitosan solution for the growth stimulating effect were different between species. The highest values of yield components and dry weight of plant parts were obtained at 1% in orchardgrass and tall fescue, and 0.05% in reed canarygrass, respectively. 4. Growth stimulating effect of seed coating in each species were different. The highest values were obtained in leaf area(LA), dry weight of leaf(LW), dry weight of root(RW), dry weight of shoot(SHW) and dry weight of biological yield(BY) in orchardgrass. The values of dry weight of stem(SW) and C/F ration were highest in reed canarygrass. 5. An increase in number of tillers per plant(NT), dry weight of leaf(LW), dry weight of stem(SW) and dry weight of root(RW) according to seed coating was attributed to the increase in dry weight of shoot(SHW). Among the aboved increasing factors, the dry weight of leaf(LW) was a main factor for the increase in dry weight of shoot(SHW). 6. An increase in dry weight of leaf(LW), dry weight of stem(SW) and dry weight of root(RW) according to seed coating was attributed to the increase in biological yield(BY). Both the dry weight of leaf(LW) and dry weight of root(RW) were main factors for the increase in biological yield(BY).

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of compost leachate and concentrated slurry on growth of tomato in hydroponic culture. In process of composting, compost leachate was produced water was through a saturated compost heap. The concentrated slurry was produced by filtration and concentration by membrane process. Filtration of pig slurry was necessary to prevent the hose clogging in hydroponics culture. The treatments of this experiment were consisted of seven different liquid fertilizers; compost leachate(CL), concentrated pig slurry (CS), compost leachate+byproduct(CL+BP), concentrated pig slurry+byproduct(CS+BP), compost leachate 50%+nutrient solution50%(CL+NS), concentrated pig slurry 50%+nutrient solution50%(CS+NS) and nutrient solution(NS) for tomato based on nitrogen content. The chemical nutrient solution was the solution of National Horticulture Research Station for the growth of tomato. The concentration of nutrient solution was adjusted a range of $1.6{\sim}2.0 mS/cm$ in EC. 1. The compost leachate and concentrated pig slurry were low in phosphorus(P), calcium(Ca), magnesium(Mg), but rich in potassium(K). 2. Plant height, SPAD value of tomato was highest in the plot of CS+NS, intermediate in CL, CS+BP, and lowest in 100% concentrated pig slurry. 3. The tomato yield of compost leachate plot was 91% compared with inorganic nutrient solution. The compost leachate solution could be used as a nutrition solution of tomato in organic hydroponics. 4. The growth including plant height, SPAD value, fruit number, fruit weight and yield of tomato in the CL 50%+NS 50% was similar in the control. In conclusion, the mixture solution of 50% pig slurry and 50% nutrient solution could be used as a nutrition solution of tomato hydroponic culture.
