  • Shuster's algorithm for spin-axis determination is extended to include sensor bias and mounting angle as its solve-for parameters. The relation between direct and derived measurements bias is obtained by linearizing their kinematic equations. A one-step least-square estimation technique referred to as the 'closed form' solution is used, and the solution provides a more refined and decent initial guess for the subsequent filtering process contained within the differential correction module. The modified algorithm is applied for attitude determination of a GEO communication satellite in transfer orbit, and its results are presented.

  • The problem of radiation from a flanged parallel-plate waveguide is re-examined. The technique of the Fourier transform is used to represent the radiation fields in the spectral domain. The simultaneous equations for the radiation field coefficients are formulated and solved to give an asymptotic seolution. The asymptotic series solution is compared with other results, thus clarifying the discrepancy among different numerical approaches.

  • The technique to determine the components in the supersulphated slag cement is discussed by several selective extraction analyses. Accordingly, the rate of hydration reaction of supersulphated slag cement could be quantitatively measured by the following 3 kinds of the selective extraction analyses. (1) Determination of unreacted slag - a salicylic acid, acetone.methanol solution (2) Determination of free $CaSO_4$ - a half saturated lime water (3) Determination of free $Ca(OH)_2$ - glycerine.alcohol solution

  • Inverse kinematic problem is a crucial point for robot manipulator control. In this paper, to implement the Jacobian control technique we used the Hopfield(Tank)'s neural network. The states of neurons represent joint veocities, and the connection weights are determined from the current value of the Jacobian matrix. The network energy function is constructed so that its minimum corresponds to the minimum least square error. At each sampling time, connection weights and neuron states are updated according to current joint position. Inverse kinematic solution to the planar redundant manipulator is solved by computer simulation.

  • This paper presents a multi-pass heuristic for job shop scheduling with due dates. The proposed heuristic iteratively improves solutions based on operation due dates. To find a good solution efficiently, a method for searching the neighborhood of current schedule is developed. The heuristic is compared with two existing heuristics as well as several dispatching rules in terms of solution quality and computation time. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is promising.

  • The paper describes a theoretical study on the speed of torsional elastic waves propagating in a circular rod whose material properties vary periodically as harmonic functions of the axial coordinate. An approximate solution for the phase speed has been obtained by using the perturbation technique for sinusoidal modulation of small amplitude. This solution shows that the wave speed in the nonuniform rod is dependent on the wave frequency as well as the periodic variation of the material properties. It implies that the torsional waves considered in this paper are dispersive even in the fundamental mode.

  • The auxiliary principle technique is used to prove the uniqueness and the existence of solutions for a class of nonlinear variational inequalities and suggest an innovative iterative algorithm for computing the approximate solution of variational inequalities. Error estimates for the finite element approximation of the solution of variational inequalities are derived, which refine the previous known results. An example is given to illustrate the applications of the results obtained. Several special cases are considered and studied.

  • Solar arrays and antennas of the satellite are usually stowed within the dimensions of the launch-vehicle fairing and deployed in the orbit. To solve such multibody dynamic problems, differential equations and algebraic equations are simultaneously solved, and special solution techniques are required. In this paper, Lagrange multipliers associated with the constraints are iteratively computed by monotonically reducing an appropriately defined constraint error vector, and the resulting equation of motion is solved by a well-established ODE technique. Defomable bodies as well as rigid bodies are treated, and applications to satellite solar arrays are explained.

  • In this work, we successfully extended dimensional differential transform method (DTM), by presenting and proving some new theorems, to solve the non-linear matrix differential Riccati equations(first and second kind of Riccati matrix differential equations). This technique provides a sequence of matrix functions which converges to the exact solution of the problem. Examples show that the method is effective.

  • We consider the optimization problem of the geostationary satellite orbital positions. which is very fundamental and important in setting up the new satellite launching plan. We convert the problem into a discrete optimization problem. However, the converted problem is too complex to find an optimal solution. Therefore, we develope the solution procedures using simulated annealing technique. The results of applying our method to some examples are reported.
