A comprehensive review on the technical standards about human factors (HF) design and software reliability maintenance for digital instrumentation and control (I&C) and human-machine interface technology (HMIT) in Japanese light water reactor nuclear power plants (NPPs) was given in this paper mainly by introducing the relevant activities at the Japan Electric Association to set up many industrial standards within the traditional framework of nuclear safety regulation in Japan. In Japan, the Fukushima Daiichi accident that occurred on March 11, 2011 has great impact on nuclear regulation and nuclear industries where concerns by the general public about safety have heightened significantly. However for the part of HF design and software reliability maintenance of digital I&C and HMIT for NPP, the author believes that the past practice of Japanese activities with the related technical standards can be successfully inherited in the future, by reinforcing the technical preparedness for the prevention and mitigation against any types of severe accident occurrence.

Ontology maintenance is a time consuming and costly process which requires special skill and knowledge. It requires joint effort of both ontology engineer and domain specialist to properly maintain ontology and update knowledge in it. This is specially true for medical domain which is highly specialized domain. This paper proposes a novel approach for maintenance and update of existing ontologies in a medical domain. The proposed approach is based on modified Ontology Maturing Process which was originally developed for web domain. The proposed approach provides way to populate medical ontology with new knowledge obtained from medical documents. This is achieved through use of natural language processing techniques and highly specialized medical knowledge bases such as Unified Medical Language System.
Requirements traceability link information is the basis for determining whether requirement change requested throughout the software development life cycle should be reflected in the system. Setting up complete requirements traceability links requires considerable effort. However, the commensurate benefits can be obtained in later development or further maintenance phases. For this reason, setting up and managing requirements traceability links in the software development phase are tasks that cause considerable resistance to developers. This study proposes a method for generating requirement traceability links in business applications. The key feature of the proposed method is that the traceability link from the requirements element, which is the basis of the corresponding element to the analysis element, is automatically established at the same time the elements of the analysis model are identified. This can be a way to reduce developer effort while increasing the efficiency of the traceability model. A case study on a Course Registration System demonstrates the feasibility of applying the proposed requirements traceability management method to actual software development.
Various maintenance programs and techniques have been implemented for roating machineries, since machines were invented for commerical use. The earliest type of maintenance was run-to-failure, where the machine was run until a fault caused to fail in service. It was obviously an expensive approach due to the unpredictability of the machine condition. Another type is the periodic maintenance, where machines are disassembled and overhauled on regular schedules. With the advent of reliable data collectors including FFT analyzer and developing of versatile supporting software such as ExpertALERT system, the predictive maintenance is known to be the most feasible maintenance type these days. The vibration analysis enables for a maintenance crew to find the exact cause of fault on a machine and to make a proper maintenance schedule with a trend analysis. The predicitive maintenance is considered to be the most important part of pro-active maintenance.
PURPOSES : This study aims at proposing the methodology for benefit evaluations in pavement maintenance methods and timings using KoPMS(Korean Pavement Management System) software which was developed for efficient pavement management. METHODS : This study classified pavement sections into 4 clusters considering AADT(Annual Average Daily Traffic) and ESAL(Equivalent Single-Axle Load) using cluster analysis and used the deterioration models in each cluster. Increased user costs due to pavement deterioration as time goes by and agent costs for maintenance were estimated. Based on deterioration model and KoPMS software, Methodology for benefit evaluation was proposed in pavement maintenance methods and with/without implementation using real pavement section data. RESULTS : This study verified that considering agent costs only would be constrained to decide pavement maintenance methods and timings, and ascertained that decision making with agent and user costs would be effective. In addition, this study revealed that pavement maintenance methods and timings can be affected by AADT and ESAL and frequent pavement maintenances can be more efficient for benefits in pavement sections with more AADT and ESAL. Also this study found that user costs would be more affected to decision making than agent costs. Moreover, Delay of conducting pavement maintenance caused increased vehicle operating costs and environmental costs because of poor conditions of pavements. CONCLUSIONS : This study proposed LCCA and benefit estimation methodology of pavement with considering agent and user costs. The results of this study can be used for baseline data of efficient pavement asset management.
