A study on the Elementary Science Curriculum and Computer Based Education (초등과학교육과정과 컴퓨터교육에 관한 연구)

  • Computer based instruction in the elementary science curriculum will be played an important role through the fifth curriculum reform from the 1989 school year. This is essential for the science instruction because the strategies on the problem-solvings and inquiry approaches can be utilized for the science classroom. Computer education can be thought as the education about the computer and the education using the computer. Of them the education using the computer means the computer assisted instruction(CAI) what is called all the possible activities using the computer in the classroom. Student achievement as the result of CAI depends on the learning activities of students and the instructional techniques and strategies of teachers using the computer. However, computer based education to enhance the student achievement is pointed out the lacks of the standardized Korean alphabet code and the compatibility of qualified software. These problems will be relieved according to the coding for the Korean alphabet of SUPER PILOT program language.

A Study on the Utilization of Open Source Hardware Platform for Convergence IT Education

  • In this paper, we suggest a method utilizing OSHW(Open Source HardWare) in order to raise up students who are competent in IT convergence and integration as a basic research to improve the university software education. Software education cannot be too much emphasized in the age of big change of Fourth Industrial Revolution. It hardly seems to have changes in the software education area of university where has to train competent technicians to be deployed into the industrial field, although software education is planned even in elementary, middle, and high school. In this situation, we expect that utilizing OSHW in software education can result in gaining a meaningful effect. However, we don't have various and systemic approach which use it as a education system component, unlike the response and necessity OSHW market. Therefore in this paper we suggest models which constitute software education environment based on OSHW and exemplify how to use it in each model. In addition, we compare and analyze each model in order to give a criteria to choice one of them according to the condition.

A Study of E-Book Production Lessons Using SNS Type on the Academic Achievement and Learning Attitudes of Elementary School Students (SNS형식의 전자책 제작 수업을 통한 초등학생의 학업 성취도 및 학습 태도 연구)

  • This study selected and utilized the 'Naver post' as an e-book production tool to be used for learning. The production of such SNS format e-books aimed at founding out its effect on learning attitude and academic achievement by stimulating interest and confidence in the learning of the students. To accomplish such an aim, the study selected 50 students from two classes in the fourth grade of a public elementary school. One class of 25 students went through a social studies lesson that applied SNS type e-book production activities, and the other class of 25 students underwent a regular social studies lesson as the comparative group. The major results of the study's analysis is SNS type e-book production did not significantly improve academic achievement in social studies, but SNS type e-book production significantly improved the learning attitude during social studies.

An Analysis of Computer Terms of Computer Textbooks in Elementary School (초등학교 컴퓨터 교과서에 사용된 컴퓨터 용어 분석)

  • We must know computer terms to use, learn, and understand efficiently. It is important for the elementary school students who learn computer for the first time to understand computer terms correctly. This study investigates a computer terms in the elementary school computer textbook which have been used currently at the elementary school, selects suitable computer terms for the elementary school student, analyzes and classifies them as a 1 2th grade, a 3 4th grade, 5 6th grade by the elementary school computer curriculum, and also classifies those as information ethics, computer basic, application software, computer communication by the category. The expectations of this study are as follows. First, the result of this offers teacher to a computer terms guidance for usability which is essential to elementary school's computer class. Second, this can be used as a reference in making a elementary computer textbook or studying and training textbook for teachers. Third, this offers teachers to an important criteria when they select a computer textbook for elementary student in elementary school.

  • Wing, J. M. emphasized the importance of computational thinking competency to live in the 21st century. In this study, the abstraction of computational thinking is classified into object abstraction, data abstraction, and procedural abstraction through related studies. In addition, abstraction achievement and assessment standards were developed for the abstractable competency assessment. As a result of applying to the school site, the students showed that the object abstraction and the data abstraction competency which are expressed in writing and drawing, they are excellent in solving the problem. However, students hard to write a computer program. The abstractable competency assessment developed in this study will help teach students to teach software education.

Analysis of Research Trends in Elementary Information Education in Korea using Topic Modeling (토픽 모델링을 활용한 국내 초등 정보교육 연구동향 분석)

  • As interest in artificial intelligence education for elementary school students has recently increased, it is necessary to analyze the existing elementary information education research from a macroscopic point of view to understand the current situation and to provide implications for subsequent research. This study analyzed Journal of The Korean Association of Information Education for the purpose of looking at the research trend of elementary information education in Korea. For the data of the study, all papers published until 2020 in the first issue of the journal were selected, and 11 research topics were derived by modeling topics. As a result of the study, topic T1, the highest proportion, was analyzed to account for about 38%, and keywords such as education, research, analysis, elementary school, and information were derived according to the order of contribution to topic T1. As a result of regression analysis according to the year of the topic, it was found that the research trend is changing to computing thinking, software education, and artificial intelligence education. The significance of this study is that text data related to elementary information education is objectively clustered.

  • With the development of artificial intelligence, society is moving to a different world. As a result, amid growing interest in artificial intelligence education, research on how to teach artificial intelligence is also being conducted more actively in Korea. However, a lot of research is being conducted around the upper grades of elementary school, and curriculum and programs for the lower grades are insufficient. Therefore, this study developed an artificial intelligence program for lower grades. Among them, it was developed focusing on artificial intelligence image recognition. It compares image recognition methods of people, animals, and computers, identifies the characteristics of fallen leaves, and helps them understand the image recognition process of artificial intelligence by classifying them according to the characteristics of fallen leaves. I hope this program will help elementary school students understand the image recognition principle of artificial intelligence in the future.

The Effects of Childrens' Perception of the Kodu Software Curriculum Model based on SCC Activity Strategy (SCC 활동 전략기반 Kodu SW교육과정 모델 적용을 통한 어린이 코딩 인지 효과)

  • Based on revised 2015 curriculum, diversified SW education methods for elementary school students are researched, developed and applied. However, as most of SW education is based on English text, its coding process may be difficult for low graders of elementary school who are not familiar with English and Math. Under this situation, Kodu game lab based 'icon card board' by which coding could be learnt with ease through game and icon was developed and story activity, coding activity and collaboration activity (SCC) strategy based 17th session SW curriculum was applied and verified. As a result of research, in terms of satisfaction of students for SW class, students more than 86% recognized such class positively and a significant effect was obtained from students' interest level and learning model for coding.

Methods to Use AI Programing in Environmental Education for Elementary School Curriculum (초등 환경교육에서 인공지능 프로그래밍 활용 방법)

  • Although environmental education has been more important due to global extreme weather and natural desasters, environmental topics are covered by several other subjects because it is not an independent subject in elementary school and they need to distribute more class hours to cover proper amount of environmental content. This study is performed to develop method to integrate environmental education and software education in elementary school. This method helps students to learn topics about recycling by using Artificial Intelligence programming and Artificial Intelligence also helps students to practice recycling in virtual reality. A new teaching and learning module(Problem Recognition→Machine Learning↔Use of AI→Collaboration) is adopted for the learning procedure and more than 80 % of the students replied positively to the survey about the interest on integrated learning, understanding of environmental education, understanding of Artificial Intelligence, further learning on Artificial Intelligence programming.

A Study on the Improvement Directions of Computer Curriculum in Elementary School (초등학교 컴퓨터 교육과정의 개선 방향에 관한 연구)

  • In this knowledge information society, it cannot be too much to accentuate the necessity and importance of computer education. However, the current computer education in elementary school only focuses on computer application and utilization. It is not satisfactory to the needs of knowledge information society to improve mechanic office operation and/or to provide simple utilization of educational software through learning the application software functions. Therefore, based on creative and logical thought, it is necessary at this era to prepare computer education as the essence of science to create new values and to embody knowledge by understanding social and cultural environment of knowledge information society that is continuously in change and development. Accordingly, this study presents the necessity of change based on problems of computer education, and investigates field teacher's opinion on the direction of change in elementary computer curriculum in this knowledge information society. Also, this study presents a computer education curriculum for elementary school students by focusing on a comparison between our current elementary computer curriculum and that of North Carolina and of California in the United States.
